David Stern: 2011-’12 NBA Season Won’t Be Canceled

by Marcel Mutoni@marcel_mutoni

There’s good news, and there’s bad news.

The somewhat positive news is that, unlike Billy Hunter, NBA commissioner David Stern expects owners and players to reach a deal, thereby preventing the cancellation of the 2011-’12 season.

The bad news is that both sides are too busy arguing about when to meet so as to actually get anything done.

From the Boston Globe:

“I would say that we have very smart players who recognize that this system is very good to them,” he said. “You’ve got 13 players on a roster averaging $5 million apiece, that’s $65 million and what the owners have said is, ’we’re going to try very hard as we reset this thing to keep you as close to that number as we can. The NFL, which is usually profitable as opposed to the NBA, which isn’t, got the double-digit [revenue] reductions from their players. Our players will understand that when the rhetoric stops and they will understand that the owners are trying to do the right thing and our players always try to do the right thing.”

“I expect that we’ll make a deal because the alternative is very destructive,” he said. “It’s destructive of $2 billion worth of player salaries and it’s destructive most important to our fans of the game. And if it spirals badly everyone gets hurt. But in some ways I worry because the players have more to lose, especially those in the later stages of their career. So we’re going to do everything we can when the rhetoric slows down to get this thing back on track.”

What is getting canceled are crucial negotiation meetings, and naturally, the two sides blame one another for this fiasco. Awesome job, guys.

So, all in all, we’re still stuck in the same place we’ve been in since July 1st.

This lockout thing will eventually get resolved; at this point, there’s just no telling who will be proven right when it comes to the season happening or not: Hunter or Stern.

Making generalizations of an entire ethnicity generally isn’t a good idea, but xenophobia in former USSR countries are on a whole another level.

There is no proof that african american athletes are more athletic. Certain Kenyan marathon runners have slightly longer femurs; yes, this gives them an athletic advantage, but this is a small group of people, not african americans as a whole. Perhaps the real reason isn’t something genetic, but more situational. How many kids in the league grew up in the ‘hood, or below the poverty line? My personal belief as to why there are more black athletes in the NBA or NFL and the like is that they had to succeed at sports; If they didn’t, then they might not make it out of the streets alive. Me, growing up in the suburbs, didn’t have that kind of pressure (not that I am a world class athlete anyways). All I’m saying in short is that people should stop making excuses, like saying black people are genetically predisposed to be more athletic, and look at what other factors might have played a part in their success.

Stern was really just threatening the players, and there wasn’t a damn thing hidden about it…AK-47 was either being intellionally racist or unintentionally racist, but that was some racist ish either way. Only a racist would disagree. Now being from Brooklyn I’ve had my fare share of experience with racist Russians from Brighton beach. I’ve also worked in a hospital where some of the nicest, most kind hearted people were Russian. Bottom line, every group of people has their bunch of rotten apples. It’s silly to make sweeping indictments of an entire group…Oh yeah, AK-47 just became my least favorite player. Far behind Kobe.

Our player are smart enough to see other options and leave if needed… the NBA is not NFL, you can play basket anywhere, but you only can play american football in USA.

Bill Russell won those championships with no more than 14 teams in the league (1968-69 had 14 teams). He’d be aight as a commish in my opinion.

THE NBA LEAGUE ITSELF WILL LOOSE MORE MONEY IF THEY CANCEL THE NBA SEASON RATHER THAN JUST COMPROMISING ON A N CBA THAT THE PLAYERS WOULD AGREE ON THE OWNERS WILL ALSO LOOSE A YEARS WORTH OF INCOME IF THAT HAPPENS THE KEY TO REACHING AN AGREEMENT BETWEEN TWO ARGUING PARTIES IS TO “COMPROMISE”

NOTE:BILL RUSSEL AND THE REST OF THE GUYS ON THAT BATCH OF LEGENDS HAVE PAID THE WAY TO A GREAT GAME THAT WE LOVE TODAY LETS FACE IT AMERICA STARTED BASKETBALL THAT’S THE BOTTOM LINE AK47 HAS NO RIGHT IN ANYWAYS TO DISS OTHER PEOPLE OF ITS VERY UNPROFESSIONAL AND I DON’T KNOW IF ITS MISSED TRANSLATION OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT BUT I THINK LETS ALSO GIVE HIM THE BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT THAT HE DID NOT MEAN THAT IN A BAD WAY………….

So then Stern, if. ” the players arent stupid enough to cancel the season ” it must be you and the owners who are, pay cut for the commissioner ? Not likely
