LeBron James: Leave Tim Tebow Alone

LeBron James took to Twitter last night to angrily vent after hearing Tim Tebow get criticized on television. From the Sun-Sentinel: “Miami’s most maligned has offered his support to Florida football’s favorite son. Amid criticism from ESPN NFL analyst Merril Hoge regarding Tim Tebow’s potential to emerge as the starting quarterback of the Denver Broncos, Miami Heat forward LeBron James went on the defensive Wednesday night on his Twitter account. ‘Tim Tebow will succeed in the NFL,’ James posted. ‘He’s a hard worker, a student of the game, a natural born leader and most of all a WINNER! It takes time and he’ll be nice.’ James followed up by offering. ‘Listened to Merril Hoge today on SC and he was just blasting Tebow. The man hasn’t even play a full season and it’s only his 2nd year in.’ In another post, James said, ‘Guys get on that TV and act like they was all WORLD when they played. How ’bout encouraging him and wishing him the best instead of hating!!’”

I think this has a deeper meaning to it. But i agree with Lebron. Sometimes analyst and fans overdue it with criticism. I understand constructive criticism is good but come on.

  • http://nba.com GP23

All analysts are haters, they always have been…

  • Zack

Most of it is probably staged anyway. Who wants to watch SC if they all agree on everything?!

  • Black Jack

LeBron is right to many people quick to hate, check out Bron summer balling here

  • T-Money

The thing I don’t like about most analysts is that they say things on camera that they wouldn’t say to a guy’s face with no cameras around. A famous writer (wish I could remember the name) said that he always types columns as if the people he’s mentioning are peeking over his shoulder. There’s a way to be honest and fair without ad hominem attacks.

  • http://slamonline.com The Black Rick Kamla

@marc yep. Definitely seeking some sympathy there. And making a plea for an almost uninamously loved athlete….yep.

  • iCARNACKi

Anyone here actually listen the Merril Hoge interview? I did, it was his opinion based on what he has seen from Tebow. It wasn’t an attack or hating at all… it was legitimate criticism of an athlete’s ability. Lebron is such a cry baby, he can’t even stomach legit criticism when it’s directed at somebody else.

  • LA Huey

News coverage is just filled with characters nowadays. My personal rule is “Don’t consume anything from anyone you wouldn’t want to have lunch and discuss hoops with.” If everyone did that, Skip and Steven A wouldn’t have work.

  • flipnoyce

A perfect example would be TOM BRADY who was taken in the sixth rounds at 199 in year 2000. He was a backup in high school and at college. Brady never was the player Tebow were in college, more athletic and physical. Tim Tebow has a lot of potential to be a good QB in Denver if they could offer him a chance. Cosign BRON for seeing what could be and what has not. Aaron Rodgers was a backup for Farve since 05. After a disappointing year as a starter in 09-10 season, he then became 2011 super bowl champ. SC will say anything to create a buzz. All Tebow has to do is create his Buzz inside the Grid and prove all the haters wrong!!!!

  • bull22

as much as i dont like lebron, but i will have to agree with him merrill hoge was never all world and tim tebow will succeed. i rather see tebow throwing the ball for my team rather then jay cutler.

  • SIkhWitIt

    Merrill Hodge is a tool.

  • http://thahiphopcorner.com Kevin

Tell Lebron to stop throwing on the cape. Tim Tebow sucks, dude cannot play QB in the NFL. Dude is garbage

  • Krisjanis

if only lebron would be a winner himself lol

  • T-Money

charley rosen, an esteemed nba writer, also said that lebron would never be much more than a mediocre nba player given his lack of fundamentals and poor shooting technique. isn’t it exactly what hoge is saying about tebow? scouting is not an exact science.

  • http://www.google.com/news BETCATS

It appears only iCARNACKi actually saw the comments that enraged Lebron. Hodge might not have been “all world” but his own playing ability has nothing to do with his analysis. He has watched enough football and enough Tim Tebow game tapes to know what he is talking about. I am not sure why Lebron is so upset/making a big fuss. It isnt like Hodge said “Tebow is a loser and terrible person”; he just made observations about Tebow’s mechanics and playing style.

  • http://www.twitter.com/dfrance21 dfrance21

Hard work does not always translate into success. If you don’t have the skills necessary, then you just don’t, no matter how hard you work. Merrill isn’t saying anything new, Tebow has been criticized since he entered the draft. Yes Tim Tebow is a hard working, athletic, likable, wholesome kid with a lot of college success, but that doesn’t mean he will succeed. I hope he does, just to prove the doubters wrong, but nothing is a given.

  • http://www.twitter.com/dfrance21 dfrance21

And just because you sucked as a player doesn’t mean you can’t provide good analysis.

  • http://facebook.com/tronjohnson ChiefKeewatin

And how would Lebron have any idea what it takes to be a winner. Way to walk yourself into a minefield. Thought you learned your lesson Bron. Thought you had decided to give the mike a rest, it needs a break from your voice. Since when did Lebron know anything about the QB position anyway? I got an idea for the Chosen one, choose to STFU post a win and then talk on twitter all you want. Until the talents you brought to south beach ripen at the vine and provide Pat and Wade with some fruit you’s a chump. No champ don’t get it twisted.

    LONG… LIVE…THE KING!

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

Tebow is not uninamously loved. I know a lot of people hate him because he’s always talking that bible ish and has a goody two shoes image.
Also, what Bron said about so-called analyst who spend all day criticizing athletes when they were garbage themselves is the same thing Shaq said.
Guys like Skip Bayless, Merrill Hodge and Jon Barry spend all day on TV talking sh*t about world class athletes when those dude sucked and in Skip’s case, the clown never even stepped on a field. I’m perfectly fine when it’s someone like Herm Edwards or Magic Johnson doing the criticizing because those guys actually know the game.

    Shout out to Kurt Werner…

    You mean Kurt Warner, Philo?

  • http://philosopher.view@blogspot.com The Philosopher

    ^Damn… lol
I knew I had it coming sooner or later.

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

Hahahaha, sorry. I’m a HUGE football fan.

  • http://philosopher.view@blogspot.com The Philosopher

^That’s cool, man. Who’s your team?

  • theDankerNuggets

you don’t have to be all world to analyze tape and realize Tebow cannot be a starting QB in the NFL. i don’t think Hodge was attacking him he was just putting it out there that it is totally ridiculous to think Tebow would do better than Orton.

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

Why haven’t Lebron taken up for Bosh like this, when Shaq called the Heat the Big 2. Lebron is faking yall, he trying to talk smack to the talking heads, using Tebow. Some of yall saying some of the people are scared to say it to their face are wrong. Skip Bayless called one of the Poucey twins to his face he is overrated and others to their face on the show. Skip, John Barry and others would say it to their face. Lebron is crying like a punk, if you join All Stars, step it up. At least Tebow is a WINNER, Lebron stick up for your own teammates. BOOK IT!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

@Philo I’m a die-hard Steelers fan but I also like the Colts(I was raised in Indianapolis).

  • theDankerNuggets

    @JTaylor21
i totally agree about Skip Bayless but when it comes to guys like Jon Barry and Merril Hodge they know the league they know how to scout players because they’ve been there. I think the fact that a VERY LARGE number of NBA and NFL coaches have never even played in the league speaks for itself, being one of the best players in the league DOES NOT automatically make you one of the best at analyzing it from the outside.

  • http://philosopher.view@blogspot.com The Philosopher

    @Phantom:
    Nice!!
I was in Indiana not too long ago. Terre Haute, to be exact. Nice little town.
Never been to Indianapolis before. I’ve heard some great things about Indianapolis, though.

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

@Philo Oh yeah it’s a great city. I’ll be moving back there in a month. I’ll have a way better opportunity in the arts than where I live now(The extremely culture-less Columbia, SC). And plus, the super Bowl will be in Indy this year.

  • Fat Lever

Isn’t this the seventh sign of the apocolypse? Meaning Lebron is criticizing his own personal lap dog(ESPN). ESPN executive’s heads must be spinning in Bristol.

  • http://thahiphopcorner.com Kevin

    Is Tebow still a virgin?

  • T-Money

So… you guys are really expecting LeBron to hide in a corner crying in the fetal position until he wins a championship? LOL. Do fans feel better about themselves when they imagine this parallel world where the guys they root against are depressed and ashamed because they didn’t win a title and therefore are “losers”? It’s all fun and games, and it’s nice to have a rooting interest but don’t kid yourselves: Bron is winning at life. So is Jay Cutler, A-Rod and all the other superstars fans love to hate.

  • http://philosopher.view@blogspot.com The Philosopher

    Phantom:
    That’s good, man.
    The arts, huh?
    Very nice.
I wish you good luck in your journeys, good brother.

T-Money I’m sorry your idol decided to open his big fat mouth again. After he didn’t back up his touch talk at the beginning of the season. I believe the quote goes “Not one, not two, not three, etc”. Lebron and his riders all gotta deal with the truth. That Deshawn Stevenson got the better of Bron. Dirk is a HOF shoe in and now everyone knows why. And now he wants to back up Tebow? YOU think it’s a coincedence Brandon Lloyd had a breakout year with ORTON? You and your sun loving baller gotta learn how to handle smack. He put himself here, not you , not me. Lebron did.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Wayno

Lions are making the playoffs this year…book it!

  • Big M.D.W

i think thats the first nice thing i have heard from LBJ

  • bike

This must mean that LBJ is considering playing in the NFL during the lockout.

  • T-Money

Chief: Put himself where? That’s my point that you seem to be missing – where? What is the truth that we have to deal with, that he didn’t win a championship this year? Ok… Deshawn got the better of him like Sasha Vujacic got the better of Paul Pierce last year? Dirk was already a 1st ballot HOF. Pointless rants.

  • the nerve

ol boy tmoney fukkin yall up

  • RoG23

Deshawn got the better of lebron???? O wow. Stupidest thing I’ve heard in weeks.

  • brandon

lebrons rumors get more comments than anybody eles JUST SAYIN

  • RoG23

And even tho the nba finals was a dissapointment for the heat organization and for the heat fans, the season in general went better than expected. How many people said celtics would be back in the finals??? Many people did. Even myself, as a lebron fan, didn’t expect them to reach the finals their first season together.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

I can’t believe this generated so many comments.
But, while I think Merrill Hodge is a hater, I think he is probably right about Tebow.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

Anyone else read the headline and imagine Bron laying on a floor somewhere, all snot-nosed and crying screaming “LEAVE TEBOW ALONE!!” like that crazed Britney Spears fan a few years back?

  • geee

Yea TIM T has proven all of yall consistently wrong. Most of you gay lovers hate him cuz he is an outspoken christian.

  • Chris

I hear James speak, and each time it reminds me what an ignorant and uneducated fool he is. This just shows that as long as we continue to allow kids to use sports as a way to get out of the ghetto, they are never going to try to get an education. It disgusting that we allow this to continue. There needs to be strict policies that are enforced which force student athletes to actually succeed as students before they can play sports in middle school, high school, and college. And the pro leagues should not accept players who have not completed 4 years of college. Buying the kids from the ghetto just because they can dunk is not helping them; force them to get an education if they want to earn money. Throwing money at these uneducated thugs is doing nothing more than arming them with more ammunition for self destruction.

  • Jase

I appreciate LeBrons comments. He is correct. Hoge is very critical of Tebow as he was of Vince Young….at a certain level it does get heavy handed.

  • http://Slamonline.com Datkid

@ Chiefkweewatin I don’t understand. How is a 2 time MVP who’s been to the finals not a winner? You’re confused. And hurt. Btw Lebron can make comments like that bc he played quarterback all through high school and could’ve played football anywhere. But Seriously? Why all these pointless whiny rants? Did Lebron run a train on your girl? Are you love with him? Please answer this so I can laugh at you.

  • http://Slamonline.com Datkid

Chris you’re just retarded…don’t comment here again.

  • http://Slamonline.com Datkid

Chris your a fool and I want to curse at you for hours. Don’t comment here again.

  • jt

1st- I don’t see why you all have your panties in a bunch. You guys are acting a little too sensitive. Hoge gave his critique based on what he saw on film. He’s saying at this time Tebow is not ready!

2nd- I can’t see how you can refute that he’s not ready. He never effectively went through his progressions to find his receivers in college. He didn’t need too at that level. But I’ll be damned if you’re going to say he doesn’t need that skill in the NFL. How many top level NFL QBs (with the exception of Michael Vick) do you know of?

  • http://www.slamonline.com Wayno

@ Enig – I as soon as I saw the headline of this article I that same thing played in my mind…lol

    @ Chris – you are a fool

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Poverty provides just as much ammunition for self destruction as wealth. All you have to do is pay a visit to your typical inner city neighborhood to witness that fact. Since I’m there regularly, at murder scenes no less, I say that whatever trouble athletes get into with their money is far less serious than the trouble far too many black men get into without money. And I’m dead serious.

  • RonR

I agree with Bron Merril Hoge was a mediocre player at best so who what makes him such a viable source of talent when he never had any at all. It kills me how these career back-ups and washups get on T.V and critique other people on what they should have done in the instance when they were in the same position when they played they stunk up the place. My thing is you do it first before you start trying to tell others how they should do it. Plus what was the highest accolades Hoge ever got in sports other than getting concussions?????? One word HATER !!!!!!!

  • jt

1st of all some of the greatest coaches and evaluators were just mediocre. Coach K wasn’t all world on the court. Neither was Belichick on the field. So what in the hell makes any of you think that a person had to be the greatest at playing the sport in order to know it and how to judge talent. You people create a double standard by criticizing hoge for saying that tebow isn’t ready to be a starting nfl qb because you have developed your own opinion that he is ready. So you all have your opinions. The only difference besides your differing views is that hoge gets paid for his. I wish tebow the best too, but i’m not convinced he’s ready at this time either.

  • Wen

Who gets upset about some loving GOD….beside a none beliver. If this was any other relgion then Christan one. the media would had to stop along time ago.

You can’t not teasy any other relgion besides christan and get away with it.
