Team Philly vs Team Melo Game to Feature LeBron, CP3, Durant

by Marcel Mutoni@marcel_mutoni

Looks like Hakim Warrick’s dream came true after all.

The star-studded game he wanted to organize a few weeks back appears to have become reality.

LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Chris Paul and Carmelo Anthony are all expected to take part in the exhibition later this month, reports the Philly Inquirer:

A game between “Team Philly” and “Team Melo” is scheduled for Sept. 25 at 6 p.m. at The Palestra. The game already included all-NBA rosters for both sides, plus Carmelo Anthony, plus 76ers combo guard Lou Williams, plus a bunch of solid NBA names. Now it includes LeBron James, Chris Paul, and Kevin Durant — four of basketball’s biggest names (including Anthony) will be playing in Philly in two weeks.

Tickets for the game will go on sale tomorrow (Tuesday) at 9 a.m. at the Palestra box office, at participating VILLA locations throughout Philly, or online at RUVILLA.com. Prices are currently set between $30 and $50. The game will be broadcast on the web on The Basketball Channel.

Until the lockout ends, and real NBA action resumes, these exhibition games are the best alternative we have going.

And judging by the highlights we’ve seen so far this summer, that’s not such a terrible option. For now, anyway.

Well, guess I’m definitely going now. I like how it went from a Baltimore team to Team Melo. Which is basically Melo grabbing the best players he can regardless of where they’re from. lol. But thats better for the public!

  • rkirby

Where are these tickets? I got somebody on site, and I’m online trying to find them. What’s good with that?!

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

That is what happens when your best friends in the L are CP and Bron.

Word, I don’t see them either.

Co-sign dfrance21. What happened to just Team Baltimore? LOL.

  • Cameron

I don’t really think Team philly stands a chance now…is melo the only NBA player from Baltimore?

  • jayb

got a feeling the mamba will be dressing for this one!!! he is from philly…puts out a lower merion shoe every year..if he is asked i am sure he will play! nuff said!

  • Do Work

^I’m pretty sure he meant on the Team Melo team. To answer his question, I think Selby and Gary Neal are from Bmore too.

So, Melo doesn’t believe in losing at all. LOL. That boy is a team stacker.

    What is the basketball channel?

  • reese

tickets don’t go on sale until 3pm today…Tickets range from $35 to $50…u can buy them at pennathletics.com

  • Jesse

got my ticket. can not wait!

  • Heals

Looks like whoever was complaining about the prices yesterday just loxt their argument. I concur about the team stacking; at a certain point it takes away from the whole city vs. city theme. However, it’s tough to get upset about that when you look on the court and see the likes of KD, LBJ and CP3 doin their thing(for 35$!)…

It doesn’t help the players case in this lockout stuff at all. I’ve been thinking about this. The owners are seeing these guys play for “the love of the game” (they aren’t making any money) so they are thinking, if they play for nothing, why are we paying them tens of millions of dollars. THe players should never have started doing this.

  • riggs

@nbk: on the flipside, the players are making the fans look at the owners in a bad light. Theyre showing the fans that theyre not in it just for the money.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

To me, that’s like anybody who loves their job. Just because you love what you do, like being an artist or musician, that doesn’t mean you want to get paid peanuts to practice a craft that requires a lot of sacrifice and heartache.
The NBA makes billions of dollars. The players who help make that possible want a cut of the profits. It should be a fair cut because the owners also make that money available, but just because players love what they do shouldn’t mean they settle for getting paid less to do it.

  • LA Huey

I don’t think this hurts the players just because people see them playing for the love of the game. I have friends that work as animators at video game studios and they make art on their own time with no drive to generate a profit from it. A lot of folks in entertainment love what they do but doesn’t mean it doesn’t preclude them from recieving a fair share of the profits they generate.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Riggs – Just because we see the owners in a bad light doesn’t mean we are going to stop watching and going to games. The players are punishing themselves. And I have no problem with the players playin, but playin in an organized game, selling tickets, having viewers, for free? And the owners are supposed to compromise? That’s a pipe-dream.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

The players will get paid to play, but they won’t get paid what they want, maybe not even what they deserve, especially if the Owners know they will play for free. Atleast if I owned a business, and my employees were fighting with me over their wages, and then going out and doing the same work they are complaining about, for free, I wouldn’t be very open to a compromise, as a business owner.

  • slamfan4life

gonna be able to watch! hell yeah

  • http://slamonline.com Neitel

Black Mamba should make an appearance for Team Philly! so is Allen Iverson…that would be balanced..otherwise, team philly will get destroyed, byt the combinations of CP3, Melo, Bron and KD…damn, that’s a huge mismatch…Team Philly features Adam Morrison, Brian Scalabrine, Brian Cardinal, Yinka Dare, Greg Oden and Hot Rod Williams…LOL, and Craig Ehlo at the point. LOLOLOL

“The Basketball Channel” looks like it was built by a 2-year old child. Does anyone know how to get it to work?
