Will Andrew Bogut Play in Australia During NBA Lockout?

Well, the Perth Wildcats certainly hope that will be the case. But they have to come up with quite a bit of scratch first before this can even become remotely possible. From The West Australian: “The Perth Wildcats are in the early stages of negotiating a deal that would see NBA superstar Andrew Bogut play for the club this season. Wildcats managing director Nick Marvin understands Bogut will be willing to play for next to nothing while the NBA’s lockout over a pay dispute continues. But the stumbling block is the massive insurance required in the event Bogut gets injured. The Wildcats would need to come up with $500,000 for every three months that the Milwaukee Bucks centre was based in Perth. Marvin stressed talks were in early stages, but he was hopeful the club could pull off what would be the biggest deal in Australian basketball history just days after first-choice Boomers point-guard Patty Mills signed for the Melbourne Tigers. ‘It’s so embryonic that we have not even discussed it with our leadership group, the captains or the players,’ Marvin said. ‘And Andrew needs to work out what he wants to do. We would love to have him in Perth and we would need all of Perth to get behind us to make it work. We’re not talking about Patty Mills, we’re talking about a superstar of the NBA living in Perth and playing in Perth.’ Marvin spoke to Bogut’s agent yesterday and has asked for an exact figure on how much the injury insurance would cost. If negotiations progress, the Wildcats would seek financial support from the government and corporate sectors.”

typical Marvin getting r@cist, bringing up patty mills (aboriginal) compartively to bogut’s status. jeeeez give an abo a break son, Patty Mills is just as big a superstar from the Australian perspective. So show some love Nick Marvin you PUNK!

I once asked him if he speaka my language, he just smiled, and gave me a vegamite sandwich.

    “NBA Superstar”

  • dave

Not sure if he was being r@cist there kiwi, but I did find that part offensive.

Did he really need to put down Patty?
Bogut and Patty are both doing their best to help bball in australia from becoming extinct, and this guy puts possibly our 2nd best player?

I hope this happens though, it would generate a fair bit of media attention and if we can somehow get enough sponsors, maybe the euroleague/cup players would return to australia and make the nbl better again.

This needs to happen. Except, not Perth… instead, the Breakers.

Dre, take it easy man he has had a pretty good couple of seasons apart from the elbow injury, but Bogut is the closet thing us Aussies have to a superstar man, Mills is good but he doesent get played enough, but im telling you now man you try and watch some NBL Melbourne Tigers games and watch Patty destroy.

I also hate Perth, anywhere but Perth!

  • http://slamonline.com Ugh

@kiwi – Patty Mills is the 55th pick, is a career 10th man and spent time in the D-League. Bogut is a #1 pick, a career starter and has made the All-NBA 3rd team and is the current league leader in blocks. They are not the same status of star whatsoever, and your claim that it was a racist distinction is idiotic.

if that happens i might even watch an nbl game. im from australia and the nbl is so goddam boring. its hard to watch.

  • Brent

@Ugh- Patty Mills will have just as big if not more impact on a team than Bogut

  • http://Slamonline.com Caboose

Brent: Get off this site. Honestly, to argue that Bogut is equal to Patty is idiotic. Bogut is probably the second best center in the league right now (sorry Lakers fans) and Patty is in the bottom 10% of point guards. Think before upchucking online.

  • Dre

Neither of them are stars. Not in the NBA anyway.

    What’s an abadigital?

  • http://slamonline.com Ugh

If Bogut plays there’s no reason he can’t get average 25/13/4/4 in the NBL – at least. There simply isn’t a five anywhere near his skill in the league. Mills, on the other hand, certainly has the talent to excel, but Adam Gibson and Corey Williams will actually give the guy pause to think before taking home any trophies.

  • Brent

@Caboose – you clearly don’t know much about the AUSTRALIAN LEAGUE because Patty Mills will have a huge impact on the tigers. I obviously don’t think that Bogut is a worse player than mills (and don’t remember putting that in my comment). How about actually reading my comment before “upchucking online”?

Bogut is almost on par with Andrew Gaze.

I live in Perth! It’d be great to see dunking in the NBL, come on Bogut

It’s all about basketball and the latest article is an insightful look into the lockout.

Bogut is better then Gaze, he was only just a good shooter.
@Ugh You obviously didn’t see Patty Mills with the Boomers against Argentinia when they came over for a tour last year (i think it was last year) Patty killed em’ man, i dont even think Adam Gibson was on the team!
