Former NBAer Isaiah Rider Arrested For Probation Violation

Some sad news out of Arizona, as TMZ is reporting former NBA star Isaiah “JR” Rider was arrested for violating the terms of his probation: “Former NBA 1st round draft pick Isaiah ‘J.R.’ Rider was arrested in Arizona this week for violating his probation … TMZ has learned. Rider — who played in the NBA from 1993 to 2001 — is currently behind bars in Maricopa County on a no-bail hold.  It’s unclear why police believe Rider violated his probation. Rider’s probation stems from a 2010 incident — where he fled from police after they tried to pull him over for driving erratically. He pled guilty to unlawful flight from a law enforcement vehicle. Rider has had a long history of run-ins with police — over the years, he’s been arrested for fraud, battery, domestic violence, false reporting, kidnapping and possession of narcotic drugs. Rider was an NBA journeyman — who played for the Los Angeles Lakers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Atlanta Hawks, Portland Trail Blazers and the Denver Nuggets.”

It’s times like this that I’m so glad I copped that Rider jersey on ebay. Time to dust it off and rock it for a bit.

Still got my old Wolves Jersey too, new as the day I bought it. And the East Bay Funk Dunk Converse poster. Fav player ever!

Rider used to be one of my favorite players when he was on Minnesota, and I was stoked when my Blazers got him, back then, I could relate to his game and lifestyle, but c’mon JR, you gotta be pushing 40 years old now and still haven’t learned right from wrong?

Isn’t just being JR Rider a parole violation?

Is he EVER not in trouble? Wasted talent. So sad.

I loved his power guard game. He played a lot like Baron Davis did that one year that Baron tried hard. Quick moves off the dribble, capable of flashy moves, but only when needed to make a play, okay 3pt shooter but could get hot, post up game and power finishes. Adequate (barely) D. Too bad JR loved smoking dope out of Coke cans on the side of the Interstate.

Dude played great when he was the focal point of the Blazer’s offense in 1999. Troubled, sure, but I was and still am a fan. For his own sake I wish he could stay out of trouble and live the life he earned by way of a strong if truncated NBA career. I remember one article saying very astutely that JR had horrible shot selection but that when he was on it didn’t matter. Cosign that. Good luck JR.

JR and Christian Laettner: the only teammates more polar than David Robinson and Dennis Rodman. Ah…the T-Wolves before KG.
