Stefanski In ‘Advanced Talks’ To Become Raptors GM

Looks like Kevin Pritchard is out of the picture, and Hornets GM Jeff Bower is the other remaining candidate. Yahoo! reports that the Raps are close to hiring Stefanski: “Philadelphia 76ers executive Ed Stefanski is engaged in advanced talks with the Toronto Raptors to take over as general manager, league sources told Yahoo! Sports. Stefanski would move into the franchise’s No. 2 basketball executive job under president Bryan Colangelo. Stefanski, who is in the final year of his deal in Philadelphia and has the GM title, knows he probably won’t be retained after his contract expires, sources said. Stefanski lost his spot as the Sixers’ top decision maker a year ago to Rod Thorn, and now the franchise is waiting for the NBA to approve the team’s sale to a New York investment group.”

HE SOUND EUROPEAN, AND MOST DEFINATLY WHITE!!!!
NOOOOOOOO WE DONT WANT YOUR KIND HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

It don’t matter who the GM is!
They got that DeRozan kid, so they’ll be champs by next season, right ZOGS?

  • MUBWAR

well dd is an excellent piece so are Davis and Valanciou…that euro dude. bright future. Zogs as long as the team is not filled with soft euros like banana and calderon I’m fine with the exec job

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

Bargnani and Valanciunas will compliment each other well.
One can’t score inside, the other can’t score outside, but together they might make one Chris Bosh!
Naw, in all seriousness, that Valanciunas kid will be nice, ZOGS might eat his own words about not liking Euros once he sees dude.

  • http://Zogs.ca Zogs

I seriously doubt that considering we could have picked up brandon knight, kemba, byumbo or even jimmir lol
and sinc calderon is only getting older, I think it would hav been better to re build the pg position

  • MUBWAR

loool 1 chris bosh. I really hope Valanciunas is worth the 5th overall pick. Something along the lines of 14points 12r 2b a game will be reasonable for that pick

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

Valanciunas will probably be better than Brandon Knight or Kemba Walker and will EASILY be better than Bismack Biyombo or Jimmer Fredette.
Jerryd Bayless still has potential at the PG position.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

MUBWAR – based on scouting reports I’ve read about him, he’s a very good rebounder, great at getting teams second chances by hitting the offensive boards.
He doesn’t have the typical “score from the perimeter” game most Euro bigs do. His range probably only reaches out to about 15 feet right now, so he does most of his scoring inside, and as a result he shoots a high percentage.
He tries on defense, gets a decent amount of blocks but can also be prone to foul trouble.
    Like I said, he’s basically the anti-Bargnani.

  • http://ZOGS.COM ZOGS

But Jerryd Bayless is more of a shooting guard (although he does play a lot like russel westbrook), he is too shoot first and not a good of a passer as the raptors need.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

True, but he’s getting better, he averaged over 6 assists per 36 minutes last year, which was a lot better than earlier in his career.

  • MUBWAR

enigmatic everything u said at 8:58 is EXACTLY WHAT THE RAPTORS ORGANIZATION NEED FROM THE CENTER POSITION. After what banana made us go through in the past couple of seasons. huh I hope he arrives soon

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

Yeah, unfortunately the one thing that stopped him from being a higher pick is all the GMs knew he wouldn’t be able to leave Europe until the ’11-’12 season.
But I really believe either he or Utah’s Enes Kanter will be the best player from that draft.

  • http://twitter.com/BeezKneezy LA Huey

Big V was a good pick. I see him getting on the same level as Noah (not an All-Star but damn good role player). So unless those guards they passed on become All-Stars, I think Raps fans should be satisfied. Plus, he’s not coming ’til next year so they won’t improve this year and likely get another high lottery pick.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

^ Yeah, and with a DEEP draft that means even if the Raps get like the 10th pick, they’ll still get a solid rookie.
They could potential have a 2012-2013 lineup that looks something like this –

    PG – Jose Calderon
    SG – Demar DeRozan
    SF – Harrison Barnes
    PF – Jonas Valanciunas
    C – Andrea Bargnani
    6th man – Ed Davis
Or plug in Percy Jones, Terrence Jones, James McAdoo or Quincy Miller instead of Harrison Barnes.
Or have Sonny Weems as the starting 3 and replace Jose Calderon with Marquis Teague, Myck Kabongo or Austin Rivers.
Or get rid of Bargnani somehow and replace him with Andre Drummond, Anthony Davis or Jared Sullinger.
    Oh, the possibilities….

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

    *Perry Jones, not Percy.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

@ Enigmatic: Valanciunas can shoot the J too. I have a feeling Bargnani will be traded because the Raptors have already expressed commitment to building around Ed Davis and Demar DeRozan. No way Ed Davis doesn’t start some time next season, imo.
Co-sign on Enes Kanter. I hope he and Valanciunas can put the real centers back on the map… The NBA is running light on mobile 7 footers with actual post moves.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

True, Teddy, but he lacks the range to be able to shoot long 2′s and 3′s.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Also, since the Raptors went without a PG in the draft, I have a feeling they’re committed to Jeryd Bayless. (You can argue with me now, but wait and see.) So the future starting five will look something like this:
    1. Jeryd Bayless
    2. Demar DeRozan
    3. James Johnson
    4. Ed Davis
    5. Jonas Valanciunas
Second unit: Jose Calderon, Reggie Evans, etc.

  • MUBWAR

second unit Calderon: NO Evans: NOOO staring lineup is solid

  • http://Slamonline.coM nbk

Valunciunas was the best player/prospect in the draft and would’ve been the 1st or 2nd pick in the draft if he were coming out this year. And the Raptors are going to suck for the next 5 years, minimum. Derozan is horrible if he’s the best or 2nd best player on your team.

  • http://Slamonline.coM nbk

What I said about Jonas is what I have heard about him, not my opinion. I’m still in the Kanter camp personally.

  • http://itsahardwoodlife.blogspot.com omphalos

I think Toronto should take Kidd-Gilchrist if he’s available with their pick next year; he’s that lock-down defender and hustle guy every team needs on the perimeter, and simply plays winning, team basketball.

    PG – Bayless
    SG – DeRozan
    SF – Gilchrist
    PF – Bargnani
    C – Valanciunas

Davis is best suited to play minutes off the bench at PF/C than to start over Bargs, as the Raptors need Bargnani’s scoring more. Bargs, Val and Davis will make a potent 3-man PF/C rotation. For the future.

@ enigmatic jonas hits from close to the euro three, but doesn’t spend too much time out there. which is a good thing

  • BRAVO

RAPTORS ALL DAY TDOT STAND UP

  • Jamaal87

    @nbk

I highly doubt the Raps will ‘suck for the next five years, minimum.’

Five years is a LONG time in the nba.

  • matt

Bargnani has to be traded. Dude can’t pass, can’t rebound and can’t defend. He is a 7foot tall JR Smith. He needs to be on a team with established players at all other positions to cover his flaws. Ed Davis must start this year. Dude is already the best player on the team. Doesn’t try to do too much offensively, is already a better rebounder and blocker than Amir and Bargs. Isn’t foul prone. I look forward to seeing him and JonasV as future PF and C.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

Why would you highly doubt the Raps will suck for the next 5 years?
The Clippers have more or less sucked for damn near their entire existence.
My beloved Bulls sucked for a good 7, 8 years after MJ retired.
The L-Wolves have sucked for the last 4 years and pretty sure they will again next year.
The Kings have sucked for I lost count now how many years.
It’s very conceivable that the Raptors will suck for the next 5 years.

  • BOSS

as a toronto resident and long time fan. im willing to let the bargnani experiment go on for at least one more year. If it flops we get a higher draft pick, if it doesn’t then we get a good base for our team.
Seems like if Colangelo looks to keep his pricy investment around the future lineup (considering JV gets the starting job over amir johnson):
    PG – Jerryd Bayless
    SG – Demar Derozan
    SF – James Johnson
Pf – Bargnani (his natural position)
    C – Valanciunas

Bench: Calderon, Barbosa (if we keep him), Weems, Ed Davis, Amir Johnson.

Either way we have tooo many big men. If we keep bargnani and he looks good next to JV, Amir HAS to go.

  • http://www.boogiewilliams.com Boing Dynasty

“Jared Bayless still has potential as a point guard”?? Just stop talking dude.

  • RVBizzy

    Ahmir has to go?
Wow, you’d seriously give Bargs another year? What the heck is that? as a Toronto resident and a long time fan as yourself, you can’t possibly agree to another year of Banana? The guy is 7 feet and besides shooting J’s he cant really do anything else. You would commit to Bargs over having Ahmir be the 4 off the bench? Since Evans is too injury prone and we didn’t see enough of Davis last yr. Ahmir was the best damn rebounder on the team. He’s a straight tenacity player, playing with hustle and desire. The kind of guy who won’t give you 20 points, but will give you 12-14 rebounds and do all the little interior things that don’t measure on the score board. Straight tenacity, kinda like a JYD type guy but with better range. That’s the kind of guy that we need off the bench to give relief to Davis and hopefully Jonas. Bargs has got to go. DeMar is now the central part of this team, we need a better “big” than Bargs to surround him. V and Ed are much better suited. For god’s sake, in the little time Joey Dorsey played last season he would give more interior effort and be a better inside presence than banana.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

    @Boing Dynasty –
    No.

  • BRAVO

lol i like bayless but to b honest his game aint gonna change!

  • RVBizzy

    @Boing Dynasty
Who else would you give it to? Calderon is way past his era, we’ve had him for 8 seasons and his time is way over due and Barbosa is more of a natural 2 than a PG. Though I preferred Jarret Jack at the one, Bayless, though a shoot-first mentality, is simply our best option at the one. He’s like a more raw TJ Ford, because of his lack of consistent range beyond 20 feet. He’s a pretty solid PG. We need a better point to back him up, hopefully BC can have that arranged.
