Pacers Reportedly Interested in Trading for Rajon Rondo

If the rumors are to believed, the Boston Celtics have been trying to ship Rajon Rondo out of town for some time now, and GM Danny Ainge continues to explore the possibility. Yahoo! Sports has the latest: “For the past few days, Pacers officials – and third-party surrogates – have been making calls and gathering information and insight into Rondo’s reputation as a teammate and leader, sources said. The Pacers and Celtics have discussed the preliminary framework of a deal, but two sources said Indiana would need a third team to provide Boston with the talent it wants to do a deal. The Celtics are likely trying to gather the necessary pieces to make a bid for Ainge’s ultimate target: New Orleans point guard Chris Paul, sources said. It was unclear if the Pacers had begun to reach out to broaden discussions, but there was an expectation they would do so. The Celtics have been gauging Rondo’s trade value for more than a year, and have held discussions with teams about him across the past few trade deadlines and NBA drafts. There have long been divides within Boston’s front office, coaching staff and locker room about Rondo. He can be moody, difficult and stubborn, and several league sources were dubious if the Pacers’ young coach, Frank Vogel, would have the stature to deal with Rondo.”

CP3 to the Celtics, making Rondo go to the Pacers, making Granger and Collison go to the Hornets. That may work, not to sure about all the cap room stuff, but it’s a theory.

man i like cp3 in N.O that city embraces him………. plus he can wait for granger for like 2 years.. but all this superteam stuff is whack to me…. this is not a fantasy lg in nba2k12…….. The champs are far from being a superteam..

Ainge probably understands, like myself, that Rondo’s met his ceiling as a player. His ability to take and make a jumpshot has been a weakness for years and I’ve seen no improvement. He probably doesn’t think the Cs can prosper in the post-Pierce era with Rondo leading the way.

  • Zack

I agree with the last part of that statement.

Rondo if kept is a player to build around. Really why other teams would want him is he makes everyone better. He makes it easy for others to score.
He will never be a super star shooter that gets three after three. But he does continue to get better. The problem for them is rebounds not the point. All this is …is a instant championship bid instead of actually preparing for a future. These super team deals will kill the league. Good every once and awhile but not every team every year attempting it

    CELTICS run is over!

I’m sure Rondo loves this. Just like he loved the President talking about his jumper.

    Lance would crack Rondo…

    I love rondos absurd passes.
He is my favorite pointguard in the leaugue.
that doesnt mean he is the best point guard.
as an heat fan i will be channeling my average delusional laker fan mindstate. and say…
I would love to see Rondo on the heat. for mike bibby.
And also what would be really fair is Erick Dampier for Dwight Howard.

I agree with LA huey..it could be jump shot issues..they’ll need more scoringgg when the big 3 AARP are one

CP3′s camp is saying he WILL NOT sign an extension with the Celtics (Sorry, Boston). On another note, I hate Danny Ainge. He tries to make the BIG trades with OK players. I read he tried to get back Perkins AND Westbrook by offering Jeff Greene and Rondo thinking that OKC was upset enough with Westbrook’s playoff performance that they’d trade him and Perkins for two decent players. Now he tries to get Paul for Rondo? He SWEARS he’s the sh*t after pulling off that trade for KG.

Honestly be best rondo stay where he is. Hey he isnt the best by no means everyone knows this.. But atleast he still gets better in every catagory.Honestly i think its a waste of time even if paul did agree to all of this. Why are you gonna trade for what you really dont need. Get big men shooters what not that can grow from being given the ball. Got to admit rondo can not shot the long shot with accuracy. But man he sees angels that others dont.Really if you gonna make another run make it with this. With the season starting the way it is makes it worse. Point is the worse position to be trading. Point has to have chemistry on all levels with players and coach.i like to see kevin love to celtics next summer…still some what cheap i would imagine. he can rebound and score alittle.no superstar but not every player to be you need to have player that can play with one another….play money ball

I understand why Indiana would be interested in Rondo, but I don’t think that’s a good move for them. D-Rose torched the Pacers in the playoffs last season and Indiana is probably thinking that Rondo would be a key addition to guarding D-Rose, as well as breaking down defenses and getting guys open looks. Rondo clashed with Tubby Smith at Kentucky. Rondo clashed with Doc at Boston. Rondo will clash with Frank Vogel at Indiana. Is the potential risk worth the potential reward?

Its not Rondo or Better. Its Rondo or Collison & Granger. Which would you rather have going forward?

Hi everyone – I always thought Darren Collison was from the mold of Rajon Rondo. Anyone else get that??

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

    Rondo is a lot bigger.

Ainge been doing this for years as soon as he took over he traded Antoine for Raef Lafrenz… nuff said

  • Check out Paul George this season

Ummm…all you guys are talkin about Boston or Chris Paul…but let’s stop and take a look at Rondo in Indiana…Rondo, George Hill, Paul George, Roy Hibbert, Tyler Hansbrough, Josh McRoberts, (and yes I said it. If you’ve watched the Pacers last year you know what I mean), Brandon Rush, Mike Dunleavy, Jeff Foster. I left out Collison and Granger assuming they’d be gone…That’s a solid team right there…Paul George will be a star

  • O

Boston is trying like hell to trade Rondo. Its cause they either don’t believe he’ll ever develop a jumpshot and freethrow OR cause they getting tired of his off the court antics. Either way, NO way should anyone trade an elite PG for this burd.

if celtic give up rondo it will be upsetting… u cant hang up KG’s, RAYS, and PPeirces numbers in TD Garden without potentially raising rondo’s too :( if i were Danny i’d put up for rondos “off court antics” for a championship, (look at Allen Iverson back in the day when he was still good but his attitude got in the way?)CP can maybe work on Pacers for Granger and Collosion… (good point GP23 btw)

Remember when the Celtics sucked before KG and Allen arrived.( Yes even when Paul Pierce and Antoine Walker were the stars)They need to do something major, Rondo, Green and big baby are going to take the great Celts back to the era of 0.465 or 8th seed at best.

  • BBaller

The end of the revived Celtics began the morning we heard that Perkins was traded.

I really hope Rondo doesn’t have a year like Perk did: rehabbing a tough playoff injury, playing hard and having a great season only to be blindsided by a crazy Danny Ainge trade.

  • Clos1881

Do any of you rondo bashers watch the celtics or basketball for that matter? Rondo is one of my favorite players to watch and for most of the season he was the best player on the celtics he’s tough plays D great passer and he’s a good scorer. Chris paul has a bed knee that may never be 100% he did look great against the lakers but at this stage in his career fisher can’t check anyone. I know why new Orleans would do it because Paul is out after this year and rondo is signed already for multiple years.

  • super4455

trade rondo and pierce for dwight.
