Amar’e Stoudemire: Knicks to ‘Hunt’ LeBron James and Dwyane Wade

by Marcel Mutoni @marcel_mutoni

Even before Carmelo Anthony joined him to form a superstar tandem in New York, Amar’e Stoudemire never shied away from expressing supreme confidence in the Knicks, and seemed to take great pleasure in throwing darts at the Miami Heat.

Not much has changed on STAT’s behalf coming into the 2011-’12 season, a year in which Stoudemire has plans of taking his Knicks past Miami’s own super-squad.

The NY Post captured a funny, yet telling moment in the Knick locker room last night, as Stoudemire boasted to his teammates about what he expects them to do this season:

Amar’e Stoudemire can’t hide his intentions to dethrone Miami as NBA Eastern Conference champs.

Last night, when rookie Josh Harrellson asked him in the locker room after the preseason win over the Nets where are they going to go hunting, Stoudemire said, “We’re going to hunt in South Florida. You know what we’re going to hunt down there, right? We’re going to hunt LeBron [James] and D-Wade [Dwyane Wade]. I got the rifle, man.”

Rest assured, LeBron and Wade aren’t any less cocky or self-assured than Amar’e, they just choose to talk their trash on the court instead of through the media. To each his own, I suppose.

The Knicks/Heat rivalry has a chance to be really special over the next few years. Both are young, very talented teams, and the expectations in both New York and Miami are enormous.

The first game between these two squads will take place on January 27th in Miami. Let Hunting Season begin.

(UPDATE: Word about this got to Dwyane Wade, and he responded to Amar’e on Twitter this morning: “@Amareisreal I got those ‘hunting’ tips for you. Hit me on the cell L2MS.”)

Just cause LeBron advertises a lion on his sneakers doesn’t make him one. Not anymore anyway. He’s a lioness if anything. He left his pride to join a real jungle cat’s pride.

  • http://slamonline.com datkid

    yeah… NO amare… you’re gonna ger ROCKED.

  • http://nbasobrietystrike.blogspot.com/ CoolWhip

Baahahahaa this reminds of the time Karl Malone was asked by Kobe’s wife “what ya hunting big man?” and Malone responded “little Mexican girls.”
Being in Miami, Wade and Lebron – and especially Bosh – kinda are little Spanish girls

Melo and Stat are gonna ruin Spo`s d. Love that Stat is out for blood.

  • Drunyce

I concur O. You should expect that from the ‘experts’ on slam … Always carrying on like school girls. WTH is he suppose to say? Don’t answer that.

  • http://slamonline.com datkid

fair point drunyce and O… even tho I disagree with his comments I like his competiveness

  • ChipS

So, just because he wants to go after the team to beat in the East, he’s suddenly a idiot? Wow! Heat fans are so sensitive. And he didn’t go to the media and say it, it was a locker room conversation! You people get cramped up by the dumbest things and then make the dumbest arguements, especially NBK.

  • fizzbucket

Kind of sick of Amare’s constant BS…that’s who he is I guess. Once he actually accomplishes something during his career I might listen.

  • wiz

ya ur right marcel…they only do their talking on the court…do u pay attention to basketball????

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

It’s a comment section chipS. The articles are posted for us too comment on. If you think someone says something stupid or idiotic, this little box is where we express that. Just like you expressed your inability to understand that concept.

  • http://www.nba.com VanCityBBall

if he’s gunna hunt some Heat he better save some bullets for shooting Bulls too then

  • Red

dang ChipS, u feeling ok after that? And Bulls will do better than the Knicks I’m sure.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

Weird how chipS didn’t express his frustration at us doing the exact same thing to Chris Bosh’s comments.

  • http://www.leaguelineup.com/welcome.asp?url=pawtucketymca Gametimeweezy

The only way I could like this comment even more was if Melo had said it first. It’s NY you know people are going to hate all year… Knicks are 2-0 baby! while LeBron is busy getting punked by Q-Rich!!!

  • dan

this year ny will still have less wins than the heat at the end of the season. obviously the chances of winning a ring this year are lower than miamis chances. but in their direct meetings the knicks will beat the heat (like last season). and in 2012/2013 the knicks will be ready to take a serious shot at the title.
so the critical time window is 2011/2012 – lebron must not win his title. i hope okc or chicago or maybe orlando can keep him from that.
from 2012 the knicks will :D

i think it’s basically 29 teams and 340 odd players versus LeBron this year. Lets go refs.

  • burnt_chicken

for a self-styled homophobe, eboy sure likes to comment on man-on-man sex a lot. A LOT. Just sayin….

  • BBaller

I’m getting raw, F Miami, F Lebron, F Bosh, little respect for Wade but i hope NYC hunts and kills Miami. The biggest fraud in the NBA for 30 years.Yes i’m a hater only because i’ve never seen such organized disrespect for the game. If Miami win it i’ll be disgusted

  • http://slamonline.com The Philosopher

    LONG… LIVE… THE KING.

  • 12ising Phoenix

Dam , the Knicks get no love on Slam. Amare is just stating the obvious. Taking down Miami is their ultimate test to reach the finals. It’s not like he said this at a press conference… I think stat isn’t respected by many fans outside of ny. And he is a respectable dude, please regress on the hate. If he can’t back it up, then feel free to hate, until than let the man express his competitiveness, jeez.

  • BBaller

Well said 12ising, i personally love the drive that inflamed STAT’s comments, he acknowledges who’s the target and why shouldn’t he let it be known that the Heat are the primary teams that the knicks go after. ( not a knicks fan)

  • ChipS

Its not weird NBK, for the simple fact that Chris Bosh has the right to feel that he wants to be the best. Just like Amare has the right to go after the defending Eastern Conference champions. And me not understanding the so called “concept” of you deeming the guy a idiot for taking aim at a potential rival, is pure irony in itself. Now moving on from “talk until you sound dumb debates”, yeah the Knicks have to prove that they are willing and can play defense all year long, just like MIA have to prove that they’re over the fourth quarter collapse’s that palgued them in the finals. Amare and Melo have to prove that they’re focused on the defensive end. LBJ has to prove that he has a clutch gene. Bosh has to prove he’s not frail, and the team as a whole has to lose the Me Against The World attitude. Don’t be shocked if you see a NYK vs. MIA eastern conf. finals or a NYK vs. CHI matchup. Right now though, I’m leaning MIA vs. CHI rematch.

  • Brahsef

Amare better watch out or Bron will put another 50 point triple double down at MSG

  • BBaller

It all is pending on seeding, i think if last year year Miami got the 3rd seed and had to face NYC in the first round instead of Boston they would of surely be tested more. Match ups are so important in the playoffs, NYC will probably face chicago. ie 2nd round 1.Miami v 4.Boston, 2.Chicago v 3.NYC.
i personally want to see Miami try to beat a healthy NYC over 7 games.

  • Justin G.

I would personally be rooting for Lebron, Amar’e and Melo to dive after a loose ball and all three collide heads knocking each other out. Then again, getting those three to dive for a loose ball would be a miracle in itself

  • marc

It seems like you guys are taking it way too serious. All ballers talk he wasn’t saying like they suck. He wants what they got. They were the eastern conference champs. Stop being so bitter and enjoy. And to be honest im not the biggest knicks fan.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qfN-HzV_AOo&feature=related nbk

you don’t get it chipS. This is a comment section, EVERYTHING here is dumb, the conversations about them will also be dumb, nobody is “cramped up” we are just giving our opinion, just like you do when you give your opinion on anything in the world that you don’t directly affect. It’s a place to waste time. So we give our opinion in this comment section, because that’s what it’s for. And the point about the Chris Bosh article is that you only jumped to the defense of your beloved Knick because YOU personally didn’t like what people were saying, not because we have somehow crossed the too dumb too talk about line for calling Amar’e's comments idiotic, rather than jumping to the defense of every person who says something the slam community finds asinine.

  • shutup

I disagree, not everything here is dumb, some people have good insight even if i dont personally agree with them. I dont think Amare’s comment was idiotic. i think its great, great for team morale, great for fans and great for the game.

  • http://stapledesign.com Spaceship Jay

Amare is so stupid, he drinks stupid juice and eats stupid pooh for breakfast! Being competitive in a professional sport; how foolish of he! Right on!

  • shutup

As an example, i never knew Clyde Frazier was that good until NBK pointed it out, and even though that conversation ended bad it gave me the motivation to look it up. Frazier to me has always been the annoying commentator on msg, who uses words incorrectly. Who knew he actually did work like that, I did see his jersey hanging in msg but never really gave it a second thought.

  • Brooklyn Bully

Wow!!!Now let me get this story right He said that they heard that onetime stat said really? Is that how they do it in the Media?Trash talk hurt your feelins?Seeing the Knicks in the Playoffs will hurt Labron’s “Not one, two, three statement.Or Miami is the only team allowed to throw shots??Ha Ha it’s a New NBA !!

  • feez_22

@O … You do realize that lionesses do the majority of “hunting” in their tribes right? i watched a documentary on lions… lionesses be hunting ROFL. they are faster… they just don’t eat first. The big dog lion eats first.

to this amare hunting thing… hey amare… when you start playing D like a MAN you can make this statement. when you go to the finals you can make this claim. your team was pistol swept out of the playoffs by a team that lost in 5 to that south Floridian team you talk so lowly about (ya broken armed rondo but nonetheless). The knicks should be more worried about the bulls… the bulls in reality will be the team the knicks have the most trouble with this year. The heat probably are finals bound again but its the BULLS that will down the knicks this year and yall can book that.

  • http://slamonline.com The Philosopher

A short time ago, there were people who thought Stoudemire was a smart guy. It was right around the time when he started calling himself Jewish, and what not.
    Ah, well…

  • franklinpbailey

Talk is cheap. Prove your comments on the court Amare.

  • Red

Amare is a joke, I’d be surprised if he even survives these back to backs let alone be able to go hunting.Lebron is 26, he may just win a title before Jordan did. If he does you know well enough Heat fans will be calling him Jordan reincarnated.

  • http://Slamonlime.com 3x Cim8a
