Celtics GM Danny Ainge: No Plans to Trade Rajon Rondo

Danny Ainge wants the hoops world to know (or at least believe) that despite his point guard’s name appearing in all kinds of trade rumors lately, Rajon Rondo isn’t being shopped by the Celtics. From the Boston Globe: “Ainge said that the team’s greatest need is size, but said that he’s also got a point guard position (a backup) and wing positions to fill. He said the team has eight players he considers signed, not including the two players the team drafted in June. Ainge said the Celtics are not close to signing any free agents or completing a trade. On the trade rumors that have been floating around the team’s starting point guard, Ainge said, ‘[Rajon] Rondo will be fine. Rondo knows that we love him. He knows that we like him. He’s excited to come back and play basketball in my opinion. He gets a lot of attention. He’s a great player. There’s a lot of people that call me and ask me about Rondo. How these rumors get out is unfortunate. We didn’t leak those rumors out. He’ll deal with it, he’ll be fine.’ Asked if he anticipated trading Rondo or the team’s other three All-Stars, Ainge said, ‘I don’t anticipate that, no.’ Said [Doc] Rivers, ‘I think he’s one of the top point guards in the NBA. I think Rondo has established that. There’s a reason when this thing leaked out that it was all over the news. It’s because both players they were talking about were really good. He is a great basketball player, and he does so many things for our team. He should be flattered in a lot of ways that this is news.’ Ainge said Rondo wasn’t the only Celtics player drawing interest from other teams. ‘I field a lot of calls about players on our roster,’ said Ainge. ‘Trade rumors are part of the world we live in. It’s a media circus out there. Everybody’s been in trade rumors and everybody will. If you’re worth your salt you’ll be mentioned in a trade somewhere along the line.’”

Unless a number of trade options appear. Rondo, you on the block son.

    Unless, Chris Paul becomes available.

“Rondo knows that we love him. He knows that we like him.” Love how Danny checked his BS and had to reign it in a little. Doc and Danny could not have sounded less truthful. We love RR, but I think most sane C’s fans would take CP3 with an extension for Rajon.

I don’t know why the C’s would want to trade him anyway. Sure, Paul is tremendous but so is Rondo. Difference is Rondo’s game is unorthodox but thats a good thing imo.

should’ve had no plans to trade Kendrick Perkins…..

@vtrobot LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL definitely my laugh of the day…so friggin true. Basically that statement alone tells me what I need to know about Rondo’s future in Boston

Love CP3, my favorite PG, my favorite player….if it were still acceptable at my age I’d probably have a poster of him bringing the ball up the court over my bed…but it isn’t and I digress. I don’t think there is a better point guard for Doc’s system then Rajon Rondo. I don’t think a better fit exists. We have to remember Rajon Rondo basically learned how to play NBA basketball in this system, its pratically ingrained in his basketball DNA. We bring Chris Paul here and there are going to be adjustments for him to make as the lead guard, minor, but adjustments nonetheless- and then you have to take into account the fact that you’d be adding a dominant personality into the most dominant group of personalities in the league, there are just inherent pitfalls in such a scenario. If the C’s and Ainge are absolutely genuinely committed to 100% competing for the Finals this year, they leave the group as is and look to add an athletic change of pace wing when possible. Had Rondo’s arm not snapped like a chicken bone vs the Heat we likely could’ve seen an entirely different scenario last year. I gave them a 3 year window last year, that means as they are (and healthy) they still have maybe 2 more years to be Finals contenders. Again if Ainge really wants to 100% commit to Championships in these ’2 last years’ he’ll let the group be….if he wants to restructure for the future, look to see Rondo and Ray leave and a timer set on Pierce and KG.

Rondo to Houston… McHale and Ainge strikes again.

Wheather they go for it all or rebuild you keep rondo. Rondo is young and growing in talent . Someone you build around. It may not be lot right now but if the c’s keep some players around when the rebuilding process starts they will go thru it better. Be dumb to even think getting rid of him would be good. Rondo is the future. So say this rondo keep, glen davis as a sixth man off the bench. When or if they sign him back make sure some things happen. Make it apart of the contract he has to keep under a certain weight.
As other things go they need the big man or two some young bloods. Three big man to think about. the most unlikely but not impossible as a free agent Dwight howard,or kevin love,or bring back leon powe

They offered Rondo and Green for Perkins and Westbrook immediately after the playoffs ended.

  • misso

To say u wouldn’t take CP3 for rondo is ridiculous. They both do the same but CP3 can score more, he shoots a helluva lot better

Trade us Rondo for the rest of my cheese sandwich and a christmas ornament to play on our Special Olympics team!

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Why would the Thunder want Green back? That would be weird.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Boston realized they made a huge mistake. Atleast that’s how it looks to me.

  • O

Boston tried to dangle Rondo and Green for Westbrook and Perkins when the Finals ended. Then Rondo for Paul. What’s next? Rondo for Derrick Rose? Danny Ainge stay trying to get over. I hate his ass. Now that he realizing that NO ONE will trade their star PG for Rondo, he’s backtracking on his intentions. Truth is Boston wants to break ties with son. Rondo’s a good PG, but he be wilding too much off the court. Getting into shootouts and brawls. If he was able to finish at the rim consistently, hit a jumpshot and make a free throw, then they’d put up with whatever, but he doesn’t have all those tools, so they trying to get a star PG who can.

  • chingy

Now when did Rondo get into “shootouts and brawls”?

  • O

He was with Perkins when nuccas blasted at em last summer. And didn’t he get into a club/bar fight last week??

MaxIsNative took the words right out of my mouth, lol.

  • simeon

the thunder/celtics trade aint even possible. pretty sure broussard made it up or someone lied to him…or some telephone game thing.

Idk black rick kamla… the c’s offense might reach a whole new gear with cp3 shooting the lights out and finishing at the rim. Plus they’re pg defense drop off would be minor. if I’m boston… I MAKE THAT TRADE

  • Heals

Exactly what’s been said, this plan takes at least 2 so yeah there’s no plan, but that doesn’t mean you’re not trying…

  • http://www.nba.com VanCityBBall

as a celtic fan im not worried as much about the PG spot as i am the CENTER problem

  • LA Huey

“No plans to trade him” might be true but it doesn’t mean they aren’t shopping him.

  • http://nbasobrietystrike.blogspot.com/ CoolWhip

saw this pole from Dime asking “Who’s better: Rondo or CP3?” My response: if you chose Rondo over CP3 you’re either a) a die-hard Celtics fan or b) Rondo’s mother
I love how Rondo is not expendable when just a season ago everyone was heralding him as one of the best in the game.

  • BBaller

    For now

  • ClydeSays

“No plans to trade….” isn’t even code for “We gauge the value of our players and everyone else’s players constantly”. That’s what GM’s are supposed to do. Ask for the world, get denied, try something else, repeat 1000X.

As for CP3 V. Rondo, Paul is the more complete offensive player & probably always will be.
