George Karl: Manu Ginobili, Ben Wallace are the Tim Tebows of the NBA

Tim Tebow is the NFL’s biggest (and most divisive) story this season, and he’s on the minds of everyone, including Denver Nuggets head coach George Karl, who says that Manu Ginobili and Ben Wallace remind him of the Broncos QB. From the Denver Post: “I’m just happy for the energy of the city – the city is pumped,’ Karl said. ‘I’m kind of into coaches who take out-of-the-box chances. And it seems like they’re having fun with it, that they’re enjoying it. There’s a juice.’ As for Tebow, Karl said: ‘I’ve always felt that leadership by words is overrated – leadership by example, approach and attitude is what people follow. And passion and enthusiasm is contagious. There’s an energy that comes with that. He’s a guy who believes in himself, has a spiritual belief.’ Asked what NBA players remind him of Tebow, Karl took a moment and then said: ‘With the will to win, Manu Ginobili is the type of guy, he has this exuberance of – we’re going to win the (darn) game with effort, passion and commitment. He’s the first guy that came to mind. A guy who wins it on his heart more than his skills – Ben Wallace. He was an undersized, defensive player who can’t score, but won a championship.’”

I don’t know about Manu. I couldn’t tell if he was saying he won more with his heart than skills, because if that’s what he’s saying, that’s just not true.
Manu is crazy skilled. He has a heart too, but he has a lot of skill.

Ben Wallace is more like the entire Denver Broncos, offensivly challenged but gets by on defense, and the only things Manu and Tebow have in common is that there both awkward leftys. Oh, and they had the same hair cut last year around NFL training camp time.

@ AllenP no, he was saying that on Big Bens part, but On Manu’s part he was just pointing out how he wins games, with his heart n passion, going about with an aura about himself that says “we’re gonna win this game”

man that last game was an epic bears collapse, now the lions just need to beat out the cowboys for that last playoff spot.

Jimmer Fredette will be the new Tim Tebow of the NBA.

If Tebow beats Brady next week I’mma go all the way out there and say dude it the best QB right now (meaning at this very moment). Trust me, I been a UGA fan all my life, so I’ve done my fair share of rooting against dude during his days at UF…the man gets it done. He’s a throwback to what old school football was all about. Old school quarterbacks didn’t work out with QB gurus over the summer, and spend all their time tryna make their release ‘quicker’ or more ‘mechanical’……still riding with the Eagles, but Tebow is like the only thing I enjoy about the NFL anymore….the game has been so watered down….James Harrison done lost a years salary plus for simply playing the game hard….weak sauce

Nice backhanded compliment for Ben there.

TBRK, there is no chance he is better than rodgers

Imagine if the Cowboys had Tim Tebow? No way their kicker misses two weeks in a row. LMAO!

as a spurs fan i get what hes saying hes not trying to knock their skill but there have been plenty of times where for the first 3 quarters Manu is messing up, throwing stupid passes taking ill advised shots (off balance, double teams) but then steps it up in crunch time by doing unexpected things, remember when he dunked on two lakers when he took off and looked like he wasnt even gonna be able to lay it in? and as for Ben Wallace (who i despise for flopping whenever he played against Shaq more on that in a sec)Ben was never highly regarded as a player in the NBA before the pistons adopted his hard nose attitude (the team had maybe 3-4 good to great defenders)but were considered a defensive powerhouse. Prince, Wallace, Billups and Dumars) as for Ben Wallace flopping this guy could curl like 350lbs, i’m not saying Shaq couldnt move him but knocking him down? Not likely, i just couldnt respect him after all of that.

LeBron James is the anti-Tebow because Tebow plays terrible the whole game then takes over the last 2 minutes…

I think Tebow is more like Psycho-T. Anyway, let’s face it, Tebow’s winning streak is coming to an end when they play against Brady and co. your heart alone can win some games in the NFL but if you wanna defeat those damn Patriots you definitely need talent. I respect Tim a lot, he works hard and wants to win but there’s no way they can win the next game. Also Denver’s defense has been a big part of those great comebacks, people should be talking about that too.

Ben Wallace still has both Tebow and Manu beat in the DUI and gun possession departments.

    What’s a Tebow?

I think the Tebow talk is getting out of controll, everyday on SC or online thats all you can read or see. Is Tebow this, Tebow that. I think since day one everyone had the script of what they were going to say. The dude is a QB. He has done it his whole life. so who cares if his mechanics are off, or he is also a running type QB.
Tebow is garbage in the first 3 quarters. and his D has a lot to do with them winning. But the dude can play.
About the Manu comment. I dont really see it. I think more NBA players have more heart and leadership roles about leading by example. I see the Big Ben part tho. Garbage player but still won.
