Mark Cuban Expects an Openly Gay NBA Player Within 3-5 Years

During a typically bizarre interview with the folks over at TMZ, Mark Cuban broached a number of subjects, including the possibility of a woman coaching NBA dudes, and the chances that an active player comes out of the closet. From USA Today: “Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban is a lot of things. Boring is never one of the them. Interviewed by TMZ, he said NBA players want to win so if they had confidence in a woman coach ‘they would go to war with her.’ He also believes there will be an openly gay NBA player in 3-5 years and that it will be ‘more of a media sensation….than a player issue.’”

  • mytiman Posted: Dec.19 at 10:37 am
Just when you thought he ran out of stupid comments, he says this.

  • tomtom Posted: Dec.19 at 10:43 am
Step forward Christopher Bosh, your moment to shine princess.

  • Kevin Posted: Dec.19 at 10:46 am
Richard Jefferson might as well come out the closet already

  • LA Huey Posted: Dec.19 at 10:47 am
Agreed. I expect Marc to start demanding double teams which would leave Rudy open.

  • tomtom Posted: Dec.19 at 10:48 am
Haha SLAM may as well just have posted an article called, which NBA players are in the closet? Discuss below…

  • Max Posted: Dec.19 at 10:51 am
Lebron and Dwade both will admit when they win a chip..

  • Seth Posted: Dec.19 at 11:02 am
Mark must have just seen the photo(s) of Richard Jefferson and Luke Walton vacationing together.

  • Tarzan Cooper Posted: Dec.19 at 11:04 am
The real reason vanessa is leaving?

  • spit hot fiyah Posted: Dec.19 at 11:05 am
hasn’t he ever watched the grizzlies?

  • Gabe Asher Posted: Dec.19 at 11:06 am
I’m pretty sure that Jarryd Bayless is a power bottom

  • IAMORANGE4EVER Posted: Dec.19 at 11:07 am
Cheryl Miller to coach the Heat after Riles fires Erik Spoelstra.

  • Yann Blavec Posted: Dec.19 at 11:14 am
He’s wrong. There is no way I will make it to the NBA in 3-5 years.

  • riggs Posted: Dec.19 at 11:24 am
well this thread became incredibly predictable.

  • niQ Posted: Dec.19 at 11:34 am
Just wow at the comments. lol

  • bike Posted: Dec.19 at 11:39 am
Don’t believe we will ever see a woman coach in the league. Egos and testosterone of nba players are too big to allow that to happen
Can’t ever see a gay guy putting himself through the torment of coming out for the same reasons
On the other hand, imagine a 7’8” transgender guy with a 10 foot wingspan and prominent breasts coming into the league. That would be kind of cool.

  • LA Huey Posted: Dec.19 at 11:52 am
bike, seeing that kind of person ANYWHERE would be kind of cool.

  • Max Posted: Dec.19 at 11:54 am
    ^
That Griner girl comes to mind..

  • JTaylor21 Posted: Dec.19 at 12:01 pm
There’s nothing cool about a transgender, nothing!

  • Max Posted: Dec.19 at 12:12 pm
I see JT had some experience? lol

  • Enigmatic Posted: Dec.19 at 12:23 pm
    Nice first comment, LA Huey.
I don’t see any active players coming out anytime soon, but I’m sure more and more retired players are gonna come out over the years.

  • lisa Posted: Dec.19 at 12:31 pm
@JTaylor: I agree! Have you seen Mia Isabella? She’s hot, not cool.

  • Slick Ric Posted: Dec.19 at 12:36 pm
why are people so concerned with a damn gay person in sports? the media really perpetuates this stuff, makes it seem as if its significant or something.

  • jarrett Posted: Dec.19 at 12:38 pm
    richard Jefferson

  • Yesse Posted: Dec.19 at 12:39 pm
Who even talks about these things? Anyways, i got plenty of suspects for this. Kobe got divorced, Kwame likes to go hard in the paint, Timofey Mozgov loves to get banged on and Chris Bosh is… well, Chris Bosh.

  • robb Posted: Dec.19 at 1:18 pm
    irrelevant

  • T-Money Posted: Dec.19 at 1:38 pm
i really don’t see women coaching as a big deal. what makes pat summit less qualified than the van gundys? if you accept that coaches who haven’t played pro ball can be adequate, what does it matter if they’re male or female? / for the openly gay player, i don’t think cuban knows his league or even his team that well. an openly gay dude in the same locker room as a guy like deshawn stevenson?

  • Youngindy21 Posted: Dec.19 at 2:42 pm
Please stop with the whole Chris Bosh crap. Oh yeah a woman coaching Men’s professional sports is kind of unlikely. Pro Sports are very resistant to change. You saw how long it took for them to even give Tim Tebow a shot and even still they haven’t completely accepted him and he is a Christian. Now let him be Gay or a Women and it will take even longer. But if I had to guess who the gay person would be I would say the really fake tough guy Carlos Boozer.

  • datkid Posted: Dec.19 at 2:45 pm
    lmaooo at these comments!

  • Ugly_fish Posted: Dec.19 at 2:58 pm
I agree I think RJ and Jerryd Bayless, Luke Walton and my darkhorse pick is Sasha vujacic

  • S Posted: Dec.19 at 3:15 pm
i got my money on chris bosh coming out real soon

  • Max Posted: Dec.19 at 3:21 pm
    What about Amaré?

  • JR Posted: Dec.19 at 4:10 pm
I’m wondering why guys are coming up multiple times? Can any one offer any substantial evidence suggesting that oen of RJ, Luke Walton or Bayless are gay? I mean, is it just that they look gay? Or are there rumours? What is it?

  • nbk Posted: Dec.19 at 4:31 pm
I’m from the same area as RJ, it’s a pretty common line of thought that he is Bi. — I have also seen him at Jamba Juice in California, he hopped out of a jeep (didn’t use the door, you know like a real thug) with 3 dudes. idk, nothing too “confirm” it though.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER Posted: Dec.19 at 4:49 pm
    Game recognize game.

  • dapluva! Posted: Dec.19 at 4:57 pm
Von Waffer is gay he came out already …pause.

  • Jukai Posted: Dec.19 at 5:00 pm
Oh man, he was in a car with three dudes. Totally gay, NBK!

  • LA Huey Posted: Dec.19 at 5:07 pm
    lol @ Jukai’s comment.

  • bike Posted: Dec.19 at 5:54 pm
Ha!, ha!, …RJ at..Jamba Juice..in CA..oh, ha!, ha!, he!, he!, ha!, ha!,…gasp…ho!, ho!, ho!, he!, he!,
    Oh man, that’s freakin’ funny…
    Y’all are killing me
    Ha!, ho!, ho!……

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Dec.19 at 7:54 pm
@ JTaylor: There’s nothing “cool” about straightness or being a man or woman either. But hey, if it makes you feel better… Congrats on being a dude?

  • Dyce Posted: Dec.19 at 7:56 pm
NBK for the win, just made me die laughing at my desk.

  • nbk Posted: Dec.19 at 9:08 pm
I didn’t say that made him gay. I didn’t even call him gay. The situation was just weird. And the way it happened was weird(er), given what I had heard about him. The jumping out of the jeep issue was the reason I said it, that sh*t is hilarious for an NBA player to do in public. I don’t really care if he is bi straight or gay. Don’t matter too me. Didn’t mean to offend anybody juks.

  • JR Posted: Dec.19 at 9:29 pm
    Didnt Josh Selby come out?

  • spit hot fiyah Posted: Dec.20 at 2:12 am
nbk’s comment deserves consideration for the slam comments hall of fame, that was epic lol
