New Chris Paul-to-Lakers Trade Submitted to NBA For Approval

Now that the madness of late Thursday  afternoon has finally cleared, the Lakers, Hornets and Rockets are back at work, trying to make a new deal that’d send Chris Paul to L.A. SI has the report: “The possible trade sending New Orleans point guard Chris Paul to the Lakers that was declined by the NBA on Thursday was officially revived two days later, when multiple outlets reported a proposal involving Houston had been submitted to the league official for approval. A source told SI.com that the possible deal was “mostly the same” as before, when Lakers forward Lamar Odom, Rockets guard Kevin Martin, forward Luis Scola, guard Goran Dragic and a first-round draft pick from Houston were headed to the Hornets. Lakers forward Pau Gasol was set to join the Rockets and L.A. would receive Paul. Hornets general manager Dell Demps, according to sources, had been told by the league to focus on acquiring either younger players (Martin is 29, Scola is 31, and Odom is 32) or more draft picks in order to help the Hornets build for the future. A source said the Lakers might have given up a first-round draft pick in the deal as well, but the details were not immediately available. ESPN.com first reported the trade proposal had been re-submitted to the league office. Representatives from the three teams have communicated since the NBA vetoed the proposal Thursday night and understand the need to sweeten the deal for New Orleans, either through additional players or future draft considerations.’

    First.

Would have been a good trade for New Orleans anyway!

  • LaKid

Nooo, please LA do not do this. This is a bad trade. This makes us worse unless we get Dwight and I really don’t think that is going to happen. Paul and Kobe are a nice backcourt on paper, but Kobe is an isolation player, they don’t fit. Plus, our frontcourt would depend on Bynum’s shakey knees! Please no. No. Please god no.

  • http://nba.com/celtics lights out

it would be a process, kobe and cp3 learning to play together, since they’re both ball dominators. not all that different from lebron and wade, actually, and they still haven’t really figured it out entirely.

I think this trade will be good for us, I’ve overheard we might receive Okafor as well.

  • http://nyill.wordpress.com/ O

Supposedly the Lakers are to be taking back enough money to still be in the luxury tax instead of clearing out 20 million. So they’ll be taking back a contract along with Paul.

No Cause Hes Coming To New York Knicks the New York Knicks Til The World Blows Up

  • jsmallz

wow it christmas no matter what for me this goes through lakers destroy themselves.giving all the depth they had so it can be chris paul kobe and scrubs or add dwight still them and scrubs…LOVE IT why would anybody want a solid team anymore crazy. But new orleans in the last deal wasnt to bad off at all I say in this deal they are making out well

  • cheesewiz

@BlackPhantom – if we get back Okafor, where does that put us? If anything we need a power forward not another slow centre. Mark my words, if this trade goes through and Dwight doesn’t come to LA, this shortened season is going to be a loongg gross season.

  • http://www.nyill.wordpress.com Enigmatic

Hope it goes through this time

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

This trade will be done before Monday.

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

@Cheesewiz, Okafor can play both PF and C. When Bynum get back, he’d start at the 4 and Bynum would start at the 5, pretty decent Post Combo to me, because if you want toughness and rebounding then Okafor is pretty good option

  • http://nyill.wordpress.com/ O

Not sure even with CP3 and Okafor the Lakers can beat the Heat or even get past the Thunder…

  • http://www.slamonline.com Double J

This does hurt us, but damn if we get Okafor in this deal too, having both Bynum and ‘mek down low would be a nightmare for opposing slashers. The upside to having both Kobe and Paul in comparison to Wade and Bron is that Paul and Kobe are nightmarish competitors and two of the smartest ballers out there… they would find a way to coexist and win.

  • DuckTape The Mob

I actually Like Okafor no problem with this

  • neaorin

Called it. No matter how you twist it, that deal made and still makes no sense for a rebuilding team. Young players and picks yes, old overpriced role players, no. I’m surprised Dell Demps needed to be told this.

  • Matt Park

Chris Paul plays well off the ball… Imagine Kobe driving and dishing it to Chris Paul, or Chris Paul as ball-handler and Kobe the roll man in a pick-and-roll. Kobe would need attention and Chris is a great passer so hedging would be a nightmare. Go under the screen and CP3 knocks the shot down. Play the P&A normally, and Kobe or Paul go to work.

  • http://www.slamonline.com greg

Totally agree with Matt. paul and kobe can play well off the ball because kobe is great at finding open spots to get shots up, i think this will vastly help his suspect career fg%

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

I’ve overheard Odom isn’t part of the deal anymore

  • Stainless

i don’t think New Orleans will get a better trade.

  • Everynowhere

@blackphantom i heard the same thing. Also heard lakers are gonna give up pau, blake, ebanks, and caracter. not official but if this turns out to be true then david stern just gave the lakers a better deal.

  • Kinetik

i heard odom is not part of the deal too. lakers are probably holding on to odom for now to try to trade him and bynum for howard.

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

Lakers get better with this trade, getting top 3 point guard in the NBA for an soft Center and Odom who was more worried about his TV appearances than playing basketball. Lakers with Kobe, Paul and Bynum is a top 3 team in West. Also if Lakers get something else with this, they get better by adding free agents. Lakers win-win int trade. BOOK IT!!

  • RunNGun

LA just needs to include five first round picks (once every other year). Why five? With a stacked team like Paul, Bryant, and possibly Howard, those first round picks won’t be lottery picks at all. Rather, they’d be late first round picks. The Lakers don’t need to invest in the future because they already have their WIN-NOW players and they’ll have them for a long, long time.

  • http://www.offthebackboard.wordpress.com OTB

Man, I’m actually really bummed that Gasol is being traded. I love him on the Lakers. He was reason 1A that we won. Plus, he’s a great guy. David Stern is a pr*ck for blocking that trade; now Gasol is just practicing Brown’s offensive system aimlessly when he knows he’s about to be sent to the slaughterhouse. Jim Buss (who called the shots on this more than Mitch) is a cold bast*ard. This man gave your team 2 championships, least you could do is call him.

  • Oscar

CP3 is the best scoring point guard in NBA right now, but this is a bad trade for the lakers, if they get rid of Gasol and Odom they need to get Howard to balance the low post. I think Rondo is a better and cheaper option for the lakers.

  • dahon

    thank you OTB

  • RunNGun

I wonder if Pau Gasol would be interested in playing with his Spanish national teammate, Ricky Rubio, and demands an immediate buyout or forces a trade? He already has two rings, so he could pretty much go anywhere of his choosing. This would give this year’s LEAGUE PASS DARLINGS (yeah, I said it alright) a center (he can start right away) and veteran presence they’ve been wanting.

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

co-sign OTB, I really like Gasol and I’m gonna miss him too.

  • Kilo

We are going to save enough money in the deal to put togeter a front court. This is an excellent trade.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

What will Kobe do when Chris Paul wins Finals MVP?

  • idrees

wasn’t kevin martin and luis scola supposed to go to LA?

  • Stainless

    No,the hornets

  • Allenp

The picks of the Lakers will be useless for years. And getting Okafor back is better for the Lakers than the first deal.

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

LA just pulled ou of the trade to fight for Dwight Howard.

  • golakeshow

I hope this goes down. Lakers are the best. I agree save odom for the howard trade.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

If the Rockets can somehow manage to keep Kevin Martin, while at the same time not trade Terrence Williams, that would be awesome.

  • http://knicks.com Gametimeweezy

Chris Paul winning Finals MVP thats actually something to think about Kobe probably never let that happen he ain’t passing up the final shot, not now and not when Phil Jackson was there. It would be great to see Chris Paul play that well in the big playoff games in that seting. (preferably in NY hint hint)

This Lakers team is an overkill. At least I know which team will win Western Conference Title :)
