Report: Clippers Close to Acquiring Chris Paul

According to the LA Times, Chris Paul may end up in Hollywood after all, but not with the town’s most glamorous team: “The Clippers and the New Orleans Hornets were working vigorously Sunday night to consummate a blockbuster deal that would send All-Star point guard Chris Paul to Los Angeles to play for the Lakers’ cross-town rivals, said two people with knowledge of the situation who were not authorized to speak on the matter. The deal hasn’t been completed, but both sides were in the closing stages of the negotiations. The Clippers would send the Hornets center Chris Kaman, backup second-year guard Eric Bledsoe, second-year forward Al-Farouq Aminu and the No. 1 draft pick they got from the Minnesota Timberwolves that is unprotected in the 2012 draft, considered to be one of the best in recent years. Clippers owner Donald Sterling and the NBA have to sign off on the deal. A package from the Lakers for Paul was turned down by the league. The NBA will probably review the Clippers deal Monday.”

@ Run GUn NO the clippers are giving that pick along with gordon,Kaman, Al farouq ( who i think in time can become a beast). But i hearing SterN is greedy He wants Bledsoe in deal too. So that 5 player potential for 1.

I don’t know if I agree with a couple of those statements kamla.. first paul def. doesn’t have to put the entire team on his back like he did with the hornets. blake, gordon and deandre will make sure of that, and while they’re not going to be a championship contender this year, I’m thinking they go at least the 2nd round. and 2nd, even if rondo hadn’t gotten injured there’s no way the celtics win that series. They were facing the 2 of the best penetrating athletic slashers in the game, with aging an aging perimeter and almost nothing protecting the basket. they were doomed.

I saw what Chris Paul did in New Orleans last year.
Put him on that Clippers team with the talent they have, and it’s over.
Caron, Chris Paul, Blake, Gordon and Jordan.
That starting five is as good as any in the West.
The Lakers, Spurs and Mavs better be ready because Memphis, OKC and the Clips are ready for their turn.

Wojnarowski just reported that the deal could be dying. Clippers are unwilling to accomadate the Hornets steep asking price.

Do y’all not realize that they have legit players at every position, and several good backups?
Caron Butler is a legit small forward.
Eric Gordon is a budding star.
    Blake is a star.
    Jordan is a legit center.
    Chris Paul is a superstar.
Mo Williams is a great back up.
Ryan Gomes is a very good role player.
The only problem is Del Negro. That’s it.

Wow, if they can get CP3 AND keep Eric Gordon then that is a team to watch out for.

The real problem for me is that while this deal is high on potential, it doesn’t address the issue at all of small market teams losing out to big market teams. The Clippers still play in L.A. and it’s still a big market.

also i’d argue that the 3 amigos have plenty of basketball iq, they are both excellent passers… but that kobe and cp3 simply have better skills, and their games fit better together than wade and lebron (who are essentially the same player) I agree tho cp3,kobe, and dwight> bron, wade and cp3 but it wouldn’t be a cake walk by any means.

Megatron, yeah just seen that too, New Orleans wants EG but they have no leverage so I think they will fold and lower the price

I just heard the deal might be dying tho allenp

lol datkid, i think everyone heard that considering it is posted about 5 comments above yours

oops.. lol didnt see that comment.

  • megatron

haha I don’t see how the hornets won’t fold though, apparently they want eric gordan too. They arent going to get a better deal then the one they have, if they are gonna be that demanding, cp3 is just gonna walk at the end of the season

I think the clippers have more leverage here

Wow what in the world are the Hornets asking for then? I initially read it was Bledsoe, Aminu, Kaman and the 1st from Minny which makes a lot of sense for the Clips. Gordon instead of Bledsoe, I can see them backing out. Gordon AND Bledsoe, that’s just stupid.
