Report: Dwight Howard Wants to Play for the Nets

According to ESPN, Dwight Howard will demand a trade to New Jersey, as the Nets are reportedly his preferred destination: “Howard has yet to tell the Magic he will not re-sign with them after this season, but the sources said he will within the next few days, perhaps as early as Friday. There is also a chance that Howard will not attend the opening of training camp Friday, according to a source. The Nets are ready to offer the Magic a package built around center Brook Lopez and two first-round draft picks, New Jersey’s own and one the Nets acquired from Houston in a previous trade, according to sources. New Jersey is also willing to take back Hedo Turkoglu and the three years, $34 million remaining on his deal. The appeal of the Nets for Howard is the chance to play with All-Star point guard Deron Williams and the Nets’ move into a new arena in Brooklyn for the start of the 2012-13 season. Williams and Howard spoke several times about teaming up during the lockout. If Howard is indeed committed to joining the Nets, he can all but force the Magic to make the trade by declaring his intentions not to sign a long-term contract with any other team, thereby assuring that those clubs make low-ball offers to Orlando.”

Oh, the irony. I’m leaving Queens and moving to Orlando the same time Dwight is leaving Orlando and moving to BK. I could have jumped on the Nets bandwagon faster than anyone on SLAM. Now I’m stuck watching a bunch of soft jump shooters. Horray.

What if Stern nixes this deal too???? He would have to if he nixed the NO/LA deal.

  • neaorin

See now – getting a good young player, two first rounders, and getting rid of bad salaries is the type of deal you want for your superstar player who is set on leaving. Not the privilege of paying eight figure salaries to aging players like Scola, Odom and Kevin Martin who will get you exactly nowhere – while all but destroying your chances at drafting another Chris Paul down the line. The Hornets should be taking notes.

Whether he wants out or not you still go to training camp. You’re still under contract. These guys make me more and more angry all the time

afra33: neither the nets or the magic are owned by the NBA. why are people not understanding this?

  • robb

@Riggs everybody gets it, that’s why it’s so f*cked up.

    Neoarin
They are getting the first round draft pick of Houston. The same team that currently has Martin and Scola.
And they are getting the Nets pick AFTER THE NETS GET DWIGHT HOWARD, DERON WILLIAMS AND HEDO on the same team.
With cap space to sign more players.
That’s not a high draft choice.
And Orlando will still have it’s own pick, but it’s also going to have enough players on its team to at least compete for the eighth seed.
This is not vastly different from the Lakers deal. I believe you can turn Scola, Martin and Odom into picks.
Nobody in this Nets deal is getting a high pick.

Also, the only reason this deal would work is because that’s where Dwight wants to re-sign.

  • stonecold

Ok hear we go! I just want to see teams fine ways to keep there stars.
Atleast for how ever long there contracks are! So good for David Sturn
For blocking the mega deal with the LA Lakers. Let’s get the NBA more like the king the NFL
And we will see this game grow as the the king did! This is why we have a new cba after
All right! I hope no trade and Howard stays. And no I’m not a Magic fan! I’m a Wizards fan!
