Report: Knicks to Sign Baron Davis

With the signing of Tyson Chandler, the Knicks assembled one of the strongest frontcourts in the NBA, but the movement left their backcourt looking a little thin. That might still be the case, but the situation is at least a bit better now, as ESPN is reporting that New York has signed previously amnestied point guard Baron Davis: “Baron Davis has committed to sign with the New York Knicks, according to sources close to the situation. The deal could be formally completed as soon as Sunday, sources said. Davis cleared waivers Friday after he was released through the amnesty clause in the new labor agreement by the Cleveland Cavaliers.”

    Knicks bandwagon….I’m on that

  • http://www.nba.com BadBluue

Uhhhh! HEAT VS KNICKS @ the Eastern Conference Finals!!! TOUGH!!!

  • Eric

His back is stuffed right? How long until he can ball?

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

    @Eric, 8-10 weeks

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

    I’d rather have Gil

  • http://www.optimabbc.be Max

Amaré not gonna be happy lol

  • http://www.slamonline.com Tarzan Cooper

Healthy baron is a fuccin beast. Knicks could be real nice. Baron has a few finishers on this team, he’s going to have fun running the offense.

  • KH10

If he’s even remotely healthy Baron in Dantoni’s “system” will be sick, he was looking great for the clippers last year.

  • 12ising Phoenix

Knicks slowly on the rise. When baron is back (no pun intended) there gonna have a proven veteran pg, and that’s simply all they needed. Eastern conference finals bound, finals? Big maybe..

  • charliewinning

Hopefully vets minimum. Nothing more. And I hope he’s not fat. Maybe his back will stay healthy for a couple of months.

  • Dave

I’m so glad the Knicks got that bearded point guard! The Knicks young guards can learn a lot from Bibby and B-Diddy. Now all the Knicks need is K-Mart from China for vet min to be their defensive 4 off the bench. Come home, Kenyon, come home.

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

BDiddy hasn’t been healthy or beastly in about 4yrs.

  • R Jones

  • riggs

    shumpert has been great though

  • rob stewart

I have a feeling his back will “magically heal” in about 3-4 weeks

  • http://www.optimabbc.be Max

I think Shumpert is gon be a great player

  • Bruno

now Gilbert should be going to LA

  • 12ising Phoenix

Shump def impressed me during the Knicks first preseason game. I mean its only preseason, but you can tell that kid is solid.

  • EtheKnickFan

Shump really had me goin last nite. If i’m fields i’m in the gym early this morn. BD? ummmm lemme see how this pans out. I was in “toss up” mode when it came to who knicks should get between BD and Gunner.

  • EtheKnickFan

Oh yeah and did any of you see Rubio? Methinks this kid may do pretty good. (I know, I know, it was only one game. But the kid seemed unnerved which is something since some made him out to be overrated.(psss what happened to Jennings?)

  • http://nyill.wordpress.com/ O

Iman definitely looked promising during the preseason game. But as much stock as I want to put into that performance, I can’t. Why? Two words: Ronaldo Balkman. On another note, B. Diddy on Broadway?! I’ll pay for that muthaf*ckin liposuction just to get him into shape. Cause when son is in shape he is a BEAST! Hopefully he’ll take basketball seriously now…

  • Dr. DL

O, I had the same thought about Renaldo Balkman/Iman Shumpert’s games. But I just drafted Shumpert with my fantasy team so I’m hoping he’s not fool’s gold.

  • http://nyill.wordpress.com/ O

As much as I try to comprehend the whole fantasy league thing, I just can’t. I hope for the sake of your team and the actual Knicks team, Iman turns out to be the truth!

  • http://www.slamonline.com Dagger

Good signing for the Knicks, but I’m amazed some here apparently think this will make that team beastly. Seriously? How beastly did he make the Cavs last year?

  • http://nyill.wordpress.com/ O

Oh yeah, cause the Cavs had SO much talent to surround him with last year. Yeah, it was his fault the Cavs lost so many games. On another note, just read that Gilbert Arenas wants to sign with the Knicks as well…

  • Airswade

The Knicks will never win a title, not ever. Deal with it.

  • Randall

This was really an unnecessary move by the Knicks. The guy is out for like 2 months. Maybe even more……..why bother signing him at all. #nuffsaid

  • charliewinning

^ LOL hate poisons the blood. Why you so mad?

  • MikeC.

I’m not a big fan of this, but I guess a 1 yr run isn’t too bad.

LOL at Ric Bucher on ESPN. He looked upset the Knicks got Baron Davis.

  • http://staticseth.blogspot.com Seth

@Dr. DL, are you in a 20-team league? How deep is that league? Taking Shumpert is a stretch, haha.

  • http://Slamonline.com Mars

There’s one half. Now go get Gil, and have the best backcourt in the league, and best starting 5 in the league…on paper anyways.

Dwight needs to stop complaning, and play. We all know the only team that can afford him is Lakers and even there it won’t be guaranteed. They’ll be the 3rd best team at least behind Dallas and OKC. Clippers got next in LA. Why doesnt he go to ATL or Philly?

  • shutup

Billups is a better pg than Davis in every way, that being said with them waiving Billups this a a good pickup for the knicks.

  • 12ising Phoenix

I YouTube’d when bdiddy dunked on AK47 , gave me goosebumps lol , but I understand that was a while ago. All the Knicks need from him is to be serviceable, but Im wondering what are we gonna do with 3 pgs? Toney, bibby, b diddy when he gets back to 100% , if the Knicks play well until he returns, baron could possibly offset their chemistry, and toney will most likely be shunned outta the rotation.

  • http://nyill.wordpress.com/ O

I think Toney will play a lot of shooting guard if anything. Did you see the preseason game? TD STILL isn’t comfortable running the offense.

  • 12ising Phoenix

Yea I seen that, he did look really nerved out there. But I think we’ll be fine, Melo and Amare was also showcasing their passing game. Fields was solid, balkman is looking good , and I would never give praise to Renaldo lol

  • blakos

Mars. You just come from Mars?

  • ClydeSays

Hey, you never know. This could be one of those off years when BDiddy cares and plays well for most of the season. He seems to do that once every 3 or 4 seasons…

  • http://www.youtube.com/tripledouble Triple Double

12ising… You think Bibby would cost Toney minutes? Bibby is barely alive… Dude was pathetic last year. Surely Toney will be ahead of him on any rotation.

  • Will Lee

are you serious? If you want to go deep in playoffs Chauncey is your choice, not Baron Davis nor Bibby nor Toney Douglas even I have a B Diddy New Orleans authentic jersey

  • robb

lol good luck with that NY

  • 12ising Phoenix

@ Triple Double , I guess your right.. bibby was non existent in Miami, but if you think about it, Mike is a point gaurd and must handle the ball to be effective, bron and dwade handled the ball 80% of the time. He became a spot up shooter, therefore he couldn’t play his correct role! But I guess your right, toney will be ahead of bibs in the rotation for the fact TD Is defensive minded.

  • Yesse

Way to go again, with Lakers. They aren’t doing anything.

  • http://twitter.com/#!/MichaelJR_NZ Michael NZ

Any time you get the chance to sign an ageing, injured, out of shape, way past-his-prime, 38% shooter you have to do it, right?

  • http://www.sonichurricane.com Guile

please sign gilbert, please sign gilbert….

  • http://slamonline dan

  • JB

Baron Davis is no longer in his prime. He is constantly out of shape (he got a beer gut to prove it) and will never have that explosiveness he had in his prime. Bad move by the Knicks, but is anyone surprised???

  • http://www.slamonline.com Wayno

Billups >>>>>> Davis and Bibby combined…

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9jgxlPfSr-0 IAMORANGE4EVER

Wayno, Billups is 35, and B-Diddy is 32.

  • iLL will

  • neaorin

Somebody’s gotta make Mike Bibby feel like he’s not entirely washed up…

  • @boweezy24

I Don’t Know About This One! Still Got Faith In The Knicks! NYK

Click my name to see B-Diddy last season, March 4th, 2011 at MSG in his Cavs debut vs. Knicks. CAN’T WAIT to see him doing that for the Knicks. LOB CITY! lol
