Lakers Get Chris Paul, Give Up Gasol, Odom in Trade


Rumors have been floating around all day about the Hornets having a deal with the Lakers for Chris Paul. According to Yahoo!, the rumors are now very close to becoming real: “The Los Angeles Lakers are nearing an agreement to acquire All-Star point guard Chris Paul in a three-team trade that will cost them Pau Gasol and Lamar Odom, league sources told Yahoo! Sports. The Lakers are finalizing the trade with the New Orleans Hornets and Houston Rockets. Under the terms of the deal, the Lakers would send Gasol to the Rockets. The Hornets would receive Odom, Rockets guards Kevin Martin and Goran Dragic and forward Luis Scola, league sources said. ‘It’s not finalized, but we’re close,’ one front-office official involved in the negotiations said.”

UPDATE: The deal is off.

    Well he is emotional…. Just not a leader or a serious person at all. He eats a bunch of candy before the big game and has a sugar high outburst and all the sudden he is the “emotional leader of the team” lol

    i think they gave up gasol and odom for a reason .they are probably hunting for a big man .i would say overall hornets got the better of the trade

    I think No keeps competive but ultimately tanks to get in this years loaded lottery. Paul was going to sign, just lobby for a future Star.

    It will be exciting to see just how Kobe and CP co-exist this season. This is the first time Kobe has ever played with a top-notch PG and one that needs the ball in his hands at all times. It will also be fun to see what kind of gimmick Mike Brown comes up with now that he’s dream of running a twin-tower set with Bynum and Gasol have been dashed. I have a feeling it’s going to be eerily similar to the “taking turns” offense MIA ran last season with Bron/Wade.

    the lakers had to do something. going into the season with fish, blake, and darius morris wasnt gonna work. whats gonna be interesting is the contract cp3 gets. the howard trade will probably get done real soon- bynum and hopefully artest and walton for dwight and hedo’s horrible contract . I dont think they will get west because he wants huge money- they may get some ammesty power forward for a cheap one year deal. gotta get an athletic four

    Basically the Lakers have forced Brown to recreate his offense on the fly with a plan that will impact his most difficult player to manage. This could get ugly. I don’t lime the lakers depth problems. Maybe they go after Humphries and Kwame?

    @ lake i put money on it who going to stop him They have No 4, No 5 cause Bynum Suspended, No bench Odom and brown gone , so cp3 back is blake or fisher, kapano, Joe smith. so he maynot get 50 but 40 is capapable.

    I would chastise Lakers fans for thinking the Magic will gift them Howard but the did just get Paul. If was Orlando I would be looking at Jersey or Clippers though.

    I doubt Kwame wants to go back to LA after Kobe threw him under the buss and then set it on fire. Also, after coming off a breakout season, Humphries’ asking price might be too much for the Lakers.

    Great backcourt. Does Brown keep the Triangle though? That would make CP3 a spot up shooter. Interested to see how this shakes out…

    Actually, wait a minute… As much as I like Kevin Martin (one of my favorite players in the game–he’s just so unique offensively), this move frees up playing time for Terrence Williams.
    Let’s see how much Gasol has left in the tank. Under tutelage from Kevin McHale, and filling the shoes of Yao Ming, with a supporting cast that is BUILT for playing around a superstar big man…. I might be liking this trade after all.
    Funny how quick that happened.

    im not sure… what made the lakers so good (exception of kobe of course) was how big they were with Gasol, Odom and Bynum… take 2/3′s of that out and u get a ___________ front court. CP3 is obviously a huge upgrade for lakers but whom will land the C/ PF spot?

    Wow i love this how the teams are giving up everything…they had big guys that if they waited oh my god one freaking season could makie happen for cheaper possiblly
    I hate the lakers but if they make decision like this lets do it it will be kobe pauland scrubs…and if they get howard get the picture still have to sign scrubs all because they couldnt live with being a solid team. Just really everyone wants a version of a big three but ya get role players with them to play with…like a posey or a house…where are those guys..players like that are steals..kevin love free agent after this season steal of a big man when everyone tries to get howard…just saying it is the pros right

    Teddy – I’m hoping/anticipating that the Gasol trade is a pre-cursor for attempting a shot at D.Howard. Gasol + a couple other guys and the picks that Houston still have from the trades last couple of years.

    Lakers will crumble if this deal goes thru. CP3 for bynum and/or odom…but gasol is way too much. BTW IM NOT A LAKERS FAN, BUT THIS DEAL SUCKS AND WILL FAIL ON THE LAKERS.

    They lost Shannon Brown and now Odom and Gasol…get rid of Bynum instead, or trade for D12.

    If Lakers seem to get D12 later on, then it’ll work out…but as of rite now no!
