Report: New York Knicks Sign Mike Bibby to One-Year Deal

After waiving Chauncey Billups and signing Tyson Chandler, the Knicks will need a ball-handler this season, and it looks like they have their answer. According to the NY Post, New York has signed point guard Mike Bibby to a one-year deal: “Mike Bibby has agreed in principle to a one-year deal at the veteran’s minimum of $1.4M, according to an NBA source. As reported in today’s Post, the Knicks do not necessarily view Bibby as a starter over Toney Douglas and they will likely fight it out for the job. There’s also a possibility of adding another PG, but an NBA source said they are not in the hunt to land Dallas’ J.J. Barea despite internet chatter. The Knicks only have the $2.5M mini exception for teams under the salary cap. Because of the Tyson Chandler deal, they forfeited their $5M mid-level exception that could have landed Barea. ‘It’s a good name, he’s a veteran point guard,” Mike D’Antoni said at the press conference for Tyson Chandler. The Knicks need for another PG arose when Chauncey Billups was officially waived yesterday via the amnesty clause to make room under the cap. The Knicks also dispatched young PG Andy Rautins to Dallas as part of the Chandler, three-team sign and trade. The Knicks were in talks since last night with Bibby’s agent David Falk, who ironically is also the representative for Toney Douglas.”

“It’s a good name” D’Antoni says. These clown needs to be fired, the only way I see the Knicks winning a chip is by playing D something they cannot do with D’Antoni as the head coach.

Knicks should pick AI, bibby is nothing. starting line up AI point, douglas at his natural sg, anthony sf, stat pf chandler C. that is a starting line that would make things happen.

  • Shifty

What the hell is going on so much trade talk nd deals going on!

  • http://slamonline.com Ugh

Good pickup for the D’Antoni system. He’s a one dimensional player with a limited skillset and no tenacity whatsoever. He’ll slot right in.

    Horrible signing…

For the love of Dog! Can idiots stop throwing around the washed-up-never-been-a-point-guard-ball-stopping-shot-happy name of Allen Iverson? NY never had the assets to get Chris Paul or Deron Williams in a trade. There aren’t any PGs on the market that the Knicks can get. I’m not saying Mike Bibby is going to do anything other than stand in the corner and shoot when he’s open, but Jebus, if Bibby is washed up, then AI has been hanging on the clothesline with the rest of the laundry for two years. Nobody better say “Baron Davis” either. Sure, he’s better than Bibby, but he’s not coming for a 1-yr vet’s minimum either. When a team signs a guy for one year, minimum salary, it’s obvious to anyone that knows their head from their arse that that player is not being signed to make a major statistical impact.

  • Rainman

this guy couldnt make a shot with all the chance to in the world, playing off of Bron and Wade…how is he gonan be any better with melo and amare? he cant do anything anymore..

  • Rainman

and by “all the chance to” i meant hit some OPEN shots, not necesarrily run an offence and tiem with the ball…cuz he did afterall play with LeBron and WAde lol

system fits Bibbys game… when he was with the Sacramento Kings

  • Tre

Well I pray the Knicks take a chance on Gilbert arenas… He can’t be any worse than Bibby either, and he shouldn’t want more money…

Perfect signing for my Knicks!! Don’t need him to dominate the ball in this system, just need him to play 15 – 18 minutes off the bench. With Melo, Amare getting most of the shots, Chandler getting his 10 per game (which he will get in this system) Bibby just needs to come in, get the ball over halfway, get it into Melo’s hands, shoot when he is open. He will get 6 – 8ppg in his 15 – 18 minutes and that is fine. Toney Douglas will start and will be fine, Shump can play limited minutes at the point too. With the players the Knicks have, they do not need a traditional point guard dominating the ball. If anything, they will run and gun more, with shump and gouglas playing alot together, and Fields also. What chance the nicks sign someone such as Louis Admunson to back up Amare, and maybe someone like a Micheal Redd for that $2.5million exception or a vets minimum?

    *Douglas and *Knicks

Also, love the Jared Jeffries signing. All you guys hating on him, he won’t be needed to play more than 15 minutes in the big games. Some people on here need to remember guys like Bibby and Jeffries etc are not going to play big minutes this year. Bibby has shown he can fit in and play limited minutes whilst being a veteran leader and not chafing. Hey, he might not be the player he was, but those Hawks teams got to EC Semis and the heat team he was on got to the Finals last year. Don’t undersell the value he has had on those teams in the locker room. Really want the knicks to get Admunson and Redd now!!

Sighhhh what’s the name of CP3′s kid?

@MikeC: if the Cavs use their amnesty provision on Baron Davis and he goes unclaimed through the amnesty waiver wire, the Knicks have an excellent shot at landing him. Don’t forget, the Knicks still have their mini MLE.

  • MikeC.

@Orange - I’ve never been a fan of Baron’s game. Except that one magic season in GS. He’s a little too injury prone. NY needs a pure setup PG. Baron should go somewhere that needs a scorer in the backcourt.

@MikeC: the Dubs playing Nellie Ball is similar to 7 seconds or less under D’Antoni. I can see B-Diddy being reborn with the Knicks playing run and gun while feeding off of the defensive attention Melo and Stat.

*defensive attention Melo and Stat get. Ya dig? Sho nuff! lmao

BD in NY hmmmmmmmmm. Not bad. Just one question. Do you guys know just how good the food is in NY? Ask Eddy.

  • http://slamonline.com datkid

this is retarded…. how do you pick up mike bibby and amnesty chauncey? are you kidding me? knicks will never win a championship

  • http://knicks.com Gametimeweezy

Not sure if I’d rather take BDiddy or the food lol.. Baron Davis in NY would mean 16 points and about 6-7 assists per which is about what Tony Douglas is about to drop anyways.

  • KSupreme

I may be wrong, but I think Bibby sucks and that Toney Douglas is better..Bibby is so slow and short and unathletic..Douglas is young and fast
