Tyson Chandler to the Knicks?

The rumor mill has been blowing up as the signing period begins tomorrow, and to little surprise, the Knicks are on the tip of everybody’s tongue. And just today, to much surprise, it was revealed that Tyson Chandler may end up in NYC this season. According to Marc Stein at ESPNDallas.com, “‘New York is Tyson’s first choice,’ one source told ESPN.com, confirming a Thursday report from CBSSports.com that the Knicks have jumped ahead of the Golden State Warriors in the race to sign Chandler. ‘It’s 98 percent sure that Tyson is going to wind up with the Knicks. To create sufficient salary-cap space to sign Chandler, New York is expected to shed the contracts of Chauncey Billups and Ronny Turiaf, through either trades or the forthcoming amnesty clause.”

If the Knicks do in fact sign Chandler, things may get even crazier: “Signing Chandler, sources said, could free up the Knicks to offer star forward Amare Stoudemire to the New Orleans Hornets in a trade scenario for Chris Paul, who badly wants to reunite with Chandler after their time together with the Hornets.”

Who knows how much validity there is to these rumors, but one things for sure: we are in for a helluva abbreviated offseason.

Paul for Amare sounds like a good move.

  • http://realgm.com Ghost

Wade, James, Bosh > Paul, Melo, Amar’e/Chandler. It’s Paul, Kobe, Howard I’d watch out for if this three way trade with Houston, LA, and NO works out.

  • http://redoftoothandclaw.ca/ niQ

LOL that would suck for Amare. But on another note, CSNBayArea.com is saying that Chandler is leaving a $60 million over four years deal from the Warriors for a chance to play with the Knicks. Damnnnn..

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

Damn….NY are a better squad with CP instead of Amare but are they good enough to beat either MIA or CHI?

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

    *is* a
In what planet is Chandler worth 60mill?

  • http://realgm.com Ghost

    Planet GoldenState.

  • ab40

that would be sick. but why would NOLA want stoudamire. they don’t have anybody and I wouldn’t build around him. Why would the knicks do this after making stoudamire the face of the franchise last year trading him now would be unethical and since they’re willing to trade everybody even when they are doing good work why would they go there? With Brooklyn coming next season a few miles away.

  • O

I want a DOPE Knicks team as bad as any Knicks fan, but c’mon, man!!! Chandler, Stat, Melo and Billups is on point. Shumpert and Fields can fight it out for SG. But if we get rid of Amare and Billups for Paul, we’ll have to find a SG AND a PF. Let’s just see if we can sign Paul at the end of the year. If anything we get back Felton! B-E-Z, Dolan! Stop f*cking around with the team’s depth!!

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

Because we are talking about a chance at getting the best PG in the game and a Top-5 player. All they lose is a one dimensional PF with balky knees and a bad back. Also, Melo became the face of the Knicks the second he was traded.

  • O

I know Stat got bad knees AND a bad back, but we’ll just have another skeleton team this year.

  • ionmic

Im cool with parting with Billups to get Chandler. Not that cool about it but lets face it bigs are harder to come by than guards. But i wouldnt go the Amare for CP3 route. Chandler aint a replacement for amare hes a very highly paid complement to Amare. Use the MLE to get a vet point guard. Can billups sign with the same team that amnesties him?

  • yes.we.did

All this Amare talk is cool and all, but if Chauncey Billups gets amnestied, All Hell will break lose.

  • Heals

Could be a sneaky good move depending on how they sure up pg and the bench. I dunno though that’s alotta dough for 3 players under the new CBA rules even if Billups is amnestied…

  • bigmike100

cmon tyson mite as well cum n get yo shredd on wit melo nd amare… can u say finals? well if u cnt i can FINALS!!!!! lol

  • O

Once Billups is amnestied (is that a word?), the teams under the salary cap get first cracks at signing him. Teams over the salary cap or something have to wait. I think that’s how that works. Don’t take it as the gospel though. What vet PG’s are on the market right now that could run the point like Smooth???

  • LA Huey

Haha. Man, that would be ice cold if they did that to STAT.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

bigmike100….. Men should refrain from using “cum” instead of “come” in most cases. I shouldn’t need to tell you this.

Tyson, Melo and Paul is real nice though. Sean Williams can play the PF. And Fields and Shumpert have that 2 spot covered.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

    That’s how it works Omar.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

A front court of Amare and Chandler would be awesome.
But I’d almost forgotten about the Paul-to-Chandler connection. That was f*cking awesome. A Paul-to-Amare-to-Chandler connection would be even sweeter, though. I’m a bit ambivalent, here.
Amare clearly loves NY and has shown a commitment to turning this team around; it’d be a really sh!tty thing to trade him right now.

  • robb

    CP3 is going to LA.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Mavs are not even coming close to a repeat without Tyson Chandler. They might not leave the first round. Second round, max.

  • fruizm

    poor Amare hahaha.

  • BoWeezy24

1: Billups 2: Grant Hill 3: Carmelo 4: Stoudemire 5: Chandler That Would Be Cool >:)

  • BoWeezy24

    :)

  • http://www.slamonline.com/online/nba/2011/12/tyson-chandler-to-the-knicks/ fruity

good move, but Chandler has been prone to injuries and stoudemire too…….. feels scary

  • matt

Stat to NOH? Stat was the only free agent who wanted to face the bright lights, loved MikeD, everything fit. At the same time swapping an aging PF for possibly the best PG in the league isn’t bad. Wonder where STAT goes if he doesn’t like NOH? I wonder if Amare/CP3 swap happens, but I think NOH would rather take the Houston/NOH/LAL deal as NOH gets a bunch of young players. It all depends on if CP3 wants to stay in NYK or LAL. BUT, I think LAL should just shut up and Offer Bynum+whatever for Dwight+whatever. Dwight would become the face of the franchise in LAL bar none. Plus, if he can make those Magic a very good team, imagine him with Kobe? LAL should get the big man. Dwight would only want an extension with LAL. LAC is going to have to pay E.Gordon and BG in the future so they should just keep D.Jordan.

  • http://www.kittywildeonline.com RunNGun

I called this a few days ago; check the CP3 thread. Walsh will get it done.

  • @DEKNOWZ

@BoWeezy24, Grant Hill can’t guard elite 2 guards.

  • http://www.twitter.com/_dfrance dfrance21

Don’t forget Amare is also one freakish eye poke away from going blind. I say make the deal if its actually on the table. Between CP3 and Chandler they’d more than make up for the points and rebounds.

  • http://theurbangriot.com The NUPE

N.O. wouldn’t want Amare for Paul, too much injury risk. They would do a deal with the Lakers and opt for Gasol, World Peace and a pick before they’d take Amare. If they can add Hill to the team without giving up Billups and also add Ramon Sessions as a back-up (or potentially start) they’ll have a squad that can compete with anybody, including the Heat.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Cheshire

I bet my whole purse STAT gon drop 30&10 if he goes to NOH Walsh that’s just cold to do a brother like that man. As much as I CP3 I want Dwight more on the Lakers NOT Jason Kapono that dude sucks!

  • projectphantom

good, now when cp3 comes next year they can get back to the old days and throw oop’s all over the heat

  • nicholas

im totally not cool with trading amare for paul. amare is the only reson why the knicks have the oportunity to do this

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Amar’e sucks. The Knicks know that him being your force in the middle isn’t going to win you anything. Especially considering he is already showing signs of breaking down physically, after just 1 season in NY

  • O

@ Cheshire, Walsh isn’t the one doing this. It’s Dolan and his yes men.

  • T-Ray

Good move now Amare really doesn’t have to worry about rebounding. All jokes aside this will be good for their transition style of play since Chandler will be rebounding he can throw long outlet passes that lead to easy deuces and treas.

  • jadams12

First of all, you can only amnesty one player. Second, for all you knicks fans that didnt read the article: you’re lineup can only improve in this way: paul. fields. melo. PF. Chandler. Not sure if that lineup can beat the Heat; maybe.

  • jadams12

And BTW; the Knicks really screwed up by having two max guys on the same team, unlike the Heat players who took less money. Now they have to make drastic measures just to add players

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

Cheshire, you sounds like an idiot when you talk about the Lakers “choosing” Kapono over Caron Butler and Dwight Howard….. They didn’t choose Kapono over a superstar and an All star. It’s a money thing. You f*cking idiot.

  • http://redoftoothandclaw.ca/ niQ

According to RealGM, Chandler will indeed end up with the Knicks. No more Billups and Turiaf.

  • Goode

There is no way NOH is giving up Paul for Amare, that would be stupid. This move bringing Chandler to the Knicks though, that makes them a very interesting and kind of scary team to face. They now have a defensive presence, assuming this works, two offensive all-stars, possibly a good perimeter defender in GHill, a smart young player in Fields, quick PG with Douglas.. wouldn’t want to face them once they get it all figured out.

  • bull22

dang the knicks most be really desperate to make some noise this year, if they sign chandler to a fat contract, that gives them two injury prone players (stoudemire and chandler) to deal with…

  • EtheKnickFan

    mwahahahahaha

  • mrmadmax

Knicks should get Tyson in MSG. WAIT till next year for CP3, he wants to come plus we’ll have his boy T with Amar’e n Melo to lure him over. We let Tony Douglas n veteran PG X run point this year. Douglas swag continues to blossom and he is ready for back up role next year. Grant Hill is a fine idea, but he can’t play D like Shumpert. Fine if he is 7th dude on bench.

Doulas, fields, melo, Amar’e n Chandler. with shump, PG X, hill, syracuse kid, shawne williams off bench….knicks fans….that’s aiiiiiight.

  • iLL will

Chandler, Shawne Williams (get him resigned), Melo, Landy Fields, CP3

  • http://realgm.com Ghost

Paul to LA for Bynum and Odom, not kidding.

  • Riiickkkkyyyy

    RONDO, Melo, STAT, Chandler
    -
    CP3, Kobe, Howard
    -
    Westbrook, Durant, Perkins
    -
    Wade, Bron, Bosh

  • dan

58million???? 14,5 per year? wtf!??!?! this guy is injury prone and not in his early 20s anymore. who knows if he really plays this contract to the end. and how should ny compete for anything without an above average backcourt? dang!

  • http://thetroybog.com Teddy-the-Bear

@ LakeShow: Not sure Cheshire was implying that. Chill, holmes.

  • O

I’m hoping that son’s salary isn’t anywhere near what they’re saying. Really makes no sense…

  • meloman2.0

Love this trade…. no more crunch time minutes for Jeffries :)

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

Your right Teddy. He said a few stupid things on a few posts. And it’s just been one of those days where I feel like being a d*ck. Had to apologize to a few people today. My B.

  • http://www.tumblr.com Arthurissupreme

I like shumpert as pg, knicks gotta drop billups for any mobility anyway. Shumpert, fields, melo, amare and chandler starting 5. thats a good lineup

  • Tre

Dang, where in the world are the Knicks gon get a pg from??? But I like the chandler deal tho, it gives them a security blanket for melo and amare… Do they still have a mid level tho?? If they do then they can get a pg somewhere…

  • http://www.2ksports.com Showtime

this move killed their chances for cp3…Miami looking real good, with newyork with no pg and la with no bench or pf….It has begone.

  • Will Lee

haha if i were STAT i will suicide

  • O

Someone must REALLY believe that Iman Shumpert is going to be a problem if they’re letting Billups go. Seriously, we need a PG!!!

  • http://bobcats.com jermareodavidson

Chandler is getting paid so don’t expect too much out of him this season..

  • Justin

Ha! With Billups leaving I’m sure that will start up the Steve Nash to New York rumours as well. I think it would be funny if New York traded Amar’e. I never thought he was a max player. No defense, no heart, no testicular fortitude…he just isn’t the guy you can build around which is ultimately why New Orleans wouldn’t make that trade. Can I ask a small favour of you postes though? Can you type in English? When you write in ebonics it makes you look like a complete moron. Aiight?

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

^ Right… because thy comments art brimming with intellect. SMH. You’re just on a roll now aren’t you, Justin?
While you’re at it, watch your comma splices and your spelling. What exactly are postes?
