Bulls Coach Tom Thibodeau Unhappy With Contract Status?

According to the NY Daily News, Tom Thibodeau is less than pleased with the Chicago Bulls’ front-office because they haven’t re-upped his deal: “What’s taking the Bulls so long to say that they’re going to pick up the option on Tom Thibodeau’s contract for next season? According to team sources, last year’s Coach of the Year is not very happy that the team hasn’t discussed his future. Nor should he be.”

Tibbs’ offensive creativity has been a bit disappointing. I think he’s best as a #2 in command running the defensive side of the ball. Not everyone can be a #1.

It takes time to develop an offense, especially as a guy who’s known as a defensive player.
Basically, last year, they had a plethora of injuries to their big men. Noah, Boozer both missed signficant time. Asik was a rookie from a non-English speaking background. That severely limits any secondary/tertiary structure you want to implement at a high-level of coaching, regardless of sport, if 2/5 positions are unable to participate in practice/training camp.
Then you have absolutely no offense from the SG spot, as Korver was terrible all last year and eventually played SF.
Now they have healthy guys, who are running an offense that isn’t efficient, and the core reason for that is last year. It doesn’t help that they’re incorporating a like Rip who requires the ball to be effective (say what you want that it only requires screens to get him open shots – those screens deviate from prior strategies implemented last year – it forces Noah off the high-post, which doesn’t allow him to utilise his great passing, and it forces Boozer to set screens off the block, meaning he’s even further away from the hoop when he makes a catch, further reducing his efficiency as a low-post threat).
Now, having 2 starters who basically cannot create for themselves (Noah/Boozer), and an average passer (Rip), requiring the ball, that seriously limits a coaches ability to institute a gameplan that’s effective.
As such, there’s your lack of creativity @Kadavour.

the bulls fo has a rep of d-cking around its employess. on the other hand, given the expectations on the team now, i think it’s only fair that they wait to see what the team looks like in the playoffs this year, i.e. is it still going to be 1-4 low for d-rose every trip down the floor. i wish miami would have waited until the summer to extend spo as well.

hursty, i don’t really agree with that assessment. the bulls have enough tools, i’m sure pop or doc could do a lot offensively with what they have. i’m not a fan of boozer but he was an excellent pick n pop/roll guy in utah – where are the rose/booz PnR? RIP just runs around until he can get a clean look, that’s not hard to integrate unless you have zero ball movement. I’ve seen Lu do some damage on the left block, as a big SF, why doesn’t he get post touches more often. Heck, even Rose should get post touches against smaller PGs.

Its 3 weeks into the season. I’m sure the Bulls will pick up the option. Its still early.

give this dude the contract he deserves!

I actually think the Bulls run a great offense, at least it’s better than the BS MIA runs.

He should be and their stupid for not doing it sooner. He’s the ideal coach (both in mentality and philosophy) for that youngish squad. SEED that assessment of the C’s D is too simplistic, but yes losing him definitely hurt, but so did losing G’s knees, Perk, PJ, Posey, TAllen, etc…

Thibs is the kind of guy you can build your organization around for the next 20 years. Period. The only guy I’ll accept as a replacement is Phil Jackson himself.

  • David

Number one record in the NBA last year. Give him the contract. The players respect and follow him and believe in his system completely. Defense wins championships and if they don’t resIgn thibs they will be making a huge mistake. But honestly of I don’t see a direct quote from thibs I don’t believe this story haha. They’ll re-up
