Carmelo Anthony, Amar’e Stoudemire Agreed on How to Share the Ball

With doubt, frustration and rumors of team infighting surrounding the floundering New York Knicks, stars Carmelo Anthony and Amar’e Stoudemire both say their partnership can still be a success. From the NY Post: “Amar’e Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony had a talk about how to coexist more productively, and they agreed neither has to take a back seat to the other. They both can excel. ‘We have been talking, talked a little bit [Sunday] night, talked more this morning about how we both can dominate the game on both ends of the court,’ Stoudemire said. ‘Carmelo’s a phenomenal player. He wants to win. It definitely will get better as a unit and as a team for sure.’ After the Knicks’ sixth straight loss, to the Nuggets Saturday night in double overtime, Anthony went on a reflective rant, saying ‘maybe’ he has to shoot less and get Stoudemire the ball more. Stoudemire’s scoring average is down to 17.6 points from last season’s 25.3. Apparently, Stoudemire told Anthony he has to be himself, and yesterday Anthony discounted the notion he has to be more deferential. ‘We talked, and we’re good,’ Anthony said. ‘I got to play basketball. I can’t worry about what somebody else is thinking about me. That was the other day. There was a lot going on. We had lost six games. Maybe I was over-thinking a bit. Today’s a new day.’ Anthony, shooting 35 percent over his past seven games, said he has no plans to sit out tonight’s game in Charlotte despite nursing a sprained wrist and sprained ankle. He said he cannot rest as a 6-10 Knicks team in crisis embarks on a four-games-in-five-nights road trip that also takes it to Cleveland, Miami and Houston. ‘As a leader of this team, I don’t think I can sit out right now, with everything going on, losing games,’ Anthony said. ‘If we were winning a couple of games, maybe, but we’re in a battle.’”

Let’s hope this proclamation goes better than his last one about the Knicks being a good defensive team. I can’t wait to see how this turns out.

  • Pais Posted: Jan.24 at 10:37 am
Where’s their coach through all of this for crying out loud? What’s he saying, anybody know? Where’s the accountability on D’antoni’s part? Why’s this left for the players to sort out? What exactly is a coach supposed to do if not ensure that everyone is clear on the specific roles within the team? So many questions.

Wow. Like two toddlers agreeing to share a toy.

  • Honduran Posted: Jan.24 at 10:42 am
WhaT a fool… Playing with lingering injuries… Rest and let this team play without you for a while.. They need to learn how to play good together with and without you. Heal up!!

agree with pais. (no) d’antoni needs to go, bring in someone that will hold the players accountable. I want to say sloan, but he will probably explode on the sideline after about two games

  • Jer dawg Posted: Jan.24 at 11:15 am
D’Antoni is a damn fool! Carmelo is a douche. He tries to punk Delfino of the Bucks because he couldn’t deal with him standing next to him. Then tries to punk Jennings, too. Stoudemire has been very professional throughout. There is no team more polarizing than the Knicks. Well, other than the Lakers. Free Jeremy Lin!

I knew that “maybe i shouldn’t shoot as much” wouldn’t last….He has to do what he does best..and he can score.

  • O Posted: Jan.24 at 12:17 pm
The Knicks are cursed. Ever since we traded Ewing to Seattle for fish, we’ve been doomed. He’s our Babe Ruth curse…

  • nbk Posted: Jan.24 at 12:24 pm
Alright here’s the plan, one of us needs to get traded.

  • K.Holiday Posted: Jan.24 at 1:00 pm
LOL @ NBK. Sadly, that may be the only thing that works because Mike D’antoni has nooo idea how to run this team. I’m glad Time Warner blocked out MSG. I dont have to watch the Knicks struggle unless I really want to, and lately I’ve been cool watching College Basketball upsets!

What Carmelo should do every time he takes a shot is think of Amare. If he misses the shot, he should tell himself that even if he opted to pass to Amare, Amare would have probably have missed his shot anyway. Amare should do likewise.
That way, they both would feel good about themselve even when they lose.

They will cut the ball in half

  • JTaylor21 Posted: Jan.24 at 2:07 pm
If the knicks are serious about winning then they will make Tony Douglas their number 2 offensive option. Douglas is clearly one of the top five guards in the game. The knicks need to incorporate him more into the offensive. He should be taking at least 20 shots a game (if the knicks want to win)

  • Caboose Posted: Jan.24 at 2:14 pm
That’s either not the real JT or a ridiculous amount of sarcasm that went over my head.

  • O Posted: Jan.24 at 2:20 pm
The hell is JTaylor talkin’ about? Saboteur!!

  • Ldub Posted: Jan.24 at 2:22 pm
this post really doesnt matter since the Knicks just stated they would be looking to trade STAT and Chandler to ORL for D12!

  • JTaylor21 Posted: Jan.24 at 2:27 pm
Mike Dantoni’s system clearly dosent work with the current roster. If the knicks want to win and get Stat more involved they should consider a coaching change. If i was Dolan I would hire a future first ballot hall of fame coach in Flip Saunders

  • Ldub Posted: Jan.24 at 2:31 pm
@jtaylor21. you really just say the douglas it top 5 guards in the game??? i dont want any of whatever your smoking
rose, paul, williams, rondo, westbrook, curry, mayo, kobe, wade, mayo, ellis, rubio, terry, joe johnson, lowry, kev martin, mannn i could go on all day. douglas is no where on anyones radar. sure he can score, but who wouldnt be able to when you have melo and stat on your team? and when they are out with injuries..he of course will get more shots because they arent on the floor! top 5 my @$$!!

  • Ldub Posted: Jan.24 at 2:34 pm
and since FS just got fired…it might be a good idea. What happened to the Rumors of PJ coming back from retirement to coach the Knicks? Dantoni should coach the wizards. They like to run and gun. And since Wall and Young are their top 2 scorers..they would love to push all day.

  • dma Posted: Jan.24 at 3:05 pm
i bet you they have one of the rookies sit with a timer on the bench and yell out every 5 minutes of game time when it’s time to give the other guy the ball.

  • bull22 Posted: Jan.24 at 4:30 pm
cant play defense and now they can’t read defenses, LOL! that is a good laugh!

  • [...] Carmelo Anthony believes that he should take fewer shots in order to help the Knicks offense. Perhaps he doesn’t, and he simply said it in the heat of the moment after another disappointing loss. It’s often [...]

  • DFrance21 Posted: Jan.24 at 5:18 pm
Obviously this JTaylor is tolling, stop entertaining him. But they need to trade one of these guys and include D’Antoni in the deal. No way they can play together. I really don’t see how Melo can play with another star with the way he puts the rock up.

  • DFrance21 Posted: Jan.24 at 5:19 pm
    tolling/trolling whatever.

  • Jerome Posted: Jan.24 at 5:52 pm
Stat and Melo missed the sharing day in kindergarten. Knicks need a pg … Nash??? They would be a contender this year.

  • nrmax88 Posted: Jan.24 at 6:00 pm
i had to comment here, just to note the sheer stupidity of jdub. Good job buddy. Way to waste like 2 minutes of your life listing all the guards better then Toney.

  • CARTEL Posted: Jan.24 at 6:42 pm
I think they need a point guard to orchestrate the team…But for the time being, I think STAT should be the 1st option and if he can’t get the shot from inside, THEN kick it out to Melo…I dnt know why it’s so difficult to do…Even Kobe finds Pau or Bynum from time to time to make a play…Melo has a talented big man in STAT. So, go to ur big man FIRST, then take over if he can’t get a shot…

  • Ldub Posted: Jan.24 at 7:52 pm
@nrmaxx88 way to waste 2 minutes of your life responding to a comment that you dont feel needed to be responded to.

  • Landry_legend Posted: Jan.24 at 8:14 pm
Who could they trade for Nash if they did that? I don’t think they want to get rid of shumpert

  • J Posted: Jan.24 at 8:22 pm
    1. I don’t think that’s JTaylor
    2. Where’s ORANGE? He’s GONE lol. I bet he’ll be back on the boards once the Knicks won maybe 3 straight regular season games.
    3. The Melo trade is the root cause in all of this. The trade screwed NYK.

  • MK_23 Posted: Jan.24 at 11:52 pm
Besides ’97 the only thing the Knicks got is that stupid-annoying & highly-overplayed footage of Willis Reed back in ’73!

  • Ugh Posted: Jan.25 at 2:42 am
Best part of that article: “how we both can dominate the game on both ends”.
I can only assume they they mean it like this: “You score thirty this half, I’ll score thirty in the second, man.”

  • Justin G. Posted: Jan.25 at 3:07 am
Ugh, I can’t believe it took as many comments as it did for someone to point that out. That was the first thing I noticed, and laughed at. @J, if it’s going to take the Knicks winning 3 in a row for ORANGE to come back, we may not see him for the rest of the year. And whomever is posting under JTaylor, in a way is more entertaining than the real one.
