Derrick Rose: ‘I Want People to Think of Me as Being a Clutch Player’

Still reeling from the Chicago Bulls’ crushing loss in Miami on Sunday, Derrick Rose told the media in Washington last night that he planned to go “crazy” (which he did: 35 points, 8 assists in the win), and discussed what he hopes his legacy ends up being. From the Daily Herald: “After missing potential go-ahead free throws and a last-second jumper against Miami on Sunday, Rose was ready to take out his frustrations on whomever happened to be standing in his way. ‘It just makes me hungrier,’ Rose told reporters before the game. ‘Tonight, I’m going to try and go crazy.’ If a season-high 35 points, 8 assists and 3 blocks — all against [John] Wall — qualifies as crazy, then Rose met his goal. [...] As Rose kept talking about the misses in Miami, the future of the Bulls was getting brighter. ‘That’s something I live for,’ he said. ‘I think of my legacy. I want people to think of me as being a clutch player; someone that always comes through the majority of the time when they’re on the court. It hurt a little bit, but I know it will help me in the long run. I like seeing my city happy, especially if I’m one of the reasons why. I know what we went through after Mike (Jordan) left and all the years that people really didn’t watch the Bulls. For them to start watching the Bulls and for the organization to get our fans back, it means a lot to me. Knowing that when you see people, they’ve got Bulls hats on, Bulls apparel on. It means a lot to me.’”

Derrick Rose is consistently clutch. He is scary in the last five minutes of the game. Two FT’s aint gonna change that.

  • clutch

Haha good luck with that derrick. You have missed clutch free throws in four different games in your basketball career, twice to the same team.

  • Justin G.

Don’t worry Derrick, you will be. You’re going to have plenty more chances and one game in the regular season doesn’t matter

  • Justin G.

Wow, a whopping four games? What a choke artist! You brought these up in a different thread. Isn’t one of those games you’re talking about a college game too? Sad

I’m a big DRose fan, but man he has to stop talking. Yesterday it was “go crazy,” today it’s “clutch.” You’re better off as the mysterious guy who kills people, Derrick!

I love this dude’s passion. And the next night he came out and got busy on John Wall. He has the makings of a great one.

I’ve seen enough of Drose to know he is.

Going 1 on 3 against Miami with no Deng and no back up, and they barely won. nuff said

  • bull22

derrick does not need to worry because he already is.. if boozer and noah start stepping up and make easy baskets and derrick gets his rest going into the 4th quarter, he will become more lethal.

  • bull22

@scottie pimpin, exactly. derrick rose is going up against three all-stars in their prime without the benefit of having one of his own and the heat needed him to miss two free throws just to win the game..

This word or Term clutch is so over rated it makes no since lol Derrick Rose and Lebron have the tools I have seen both of them dominate down the stretch. This term “clutch” has been abused and overused. Carmello is very “clutch” at the end of games but he has only been out of the 1st round once his whole career and he has played on some pretty talented teams. Kobe was not “clutch” early on in his career it’s something you develop Derrick Rose just keep doing what you doing stop being so hard on your self and don’t listen to the media none of them clowns never bounced a ball in they life

    ^ I agree

^ I agree with what you agree with. People tend to forget that a basketball game is 4 quarters. If Rose isn’t out there dominating the whole game, they’re not even around in the 4th for his “clutchness” to come into question.

Say what you want but some dudes get it done with the game on the line and some dont. It only takes a couple of missed free throws or a missed shot to make all your first 3 quatre domination worth excactly nothing.

Rose has carried an offensively inept team to umpteen wins since he arrived in Chicago. He has lead the team back from 4th quarter deficits repeatedly. The Bulls were miles ahead of anyone else in 4th quarter point differential last year and it wasn’t because of Carlos Boozer or Keith Bogans. Some internet blabbermouths’ yapping after a missed free throw doesn’t change any of that.

Yea missing free throws or a big shot down the stretch does kill your 3quarters of dominance but also it’s yo job not to from start to put your team in position to not having to take a last secOnd shot or tying game free throws… My point is a lot of guys have missed a lot of game tieing shots or game winners don’t mean that they don’t have it something that’s developed with time

  • ai come back

^ which is why lebrons so good(he dominated 3 quarters and didnt need buzzer beaters to win)
