Jerry West: Miami Heat Capable of Winning ‘Numerous’ Championships

Jerry West, currently a consultant with the Golden State Warriors, envisions multiple NBA title parades taking place in South Beach over the next few years. From Fox Sports: “At 66-years-old, Pat Riley is eligible for retirement, but Jerry West doesn’t believe the Miami Heat president will be going anywhere soon. ‘I was talking to Pat, and I told him, ‘Don’t walk away from something,’ West, the Hall of Famer who called Riley his ‘best friend,’ said Wednesday. ‘I would be shocked if he did (anytime soon) … If I were him, I would stay there and watch them win championships.’ Yes, that would plural. West called the Heat, with stars LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, ‘absolutely’ the best team now in the NBA. And he expects that to continue for years to come. ‘They’ve got two of the three best players in the NBA,’ West said of James and Wade. ‘I think they can win numerous championships.’”

This is what I used to think of many Portland teams. We know how thta went…

I have no idea. They need Wade, and I’m not to sure about his future. He is injured often and needs to play that style that gets him injured in order to be fully effective. LbJ is great at dragging crappy teams into the playoffs but they will need a closer and another talent on the floor in order to win it all. DWades early showing this year, (other than the game winner) is pretty weak. 18ppg, 3rpg, 6.5 ast Although the 2 blocks is nice. They need the team together to jell and figure out how they want to play. It’s dependent on Wade though.

I think the time to jell has passed (last season), those guys already know who to play with each other. Wade struggles has more to do with injuries than a lack of cohesion.

the window is short though because both Lebron and Wade’s game is very physical oriented like LakeShow pointed out, Wade is 30 and his injuries will come more often no matter how much chlorophyll he drinks, and Lebron is more resilient but he’s 27. This year they can win no doubt, beyond that I wouldn’t be so sure.

To me I would like to see Lebron get more of the ball, like yesterday, the post stuff is cute and all, but we need the mean mugging bron, I am not paying for league pass to see him post up James Posey. I get it though, do what it takes to win championships…

  • bull22

yeah, miami fans have been living on imaginary championships since day one… LOL!!!

  • Heals

Way to go out on a limb there Jerry. What a trully original take on the potential of Mia to win mulitiples. I think I’ve only heard this discussed on ANY and EVERY outlet that covers hoops…

haters everywhere i read. they got more than enuff talent to win multiple chips. they got enuff talent to win without wade now and the current roster that we have with the new Lebron. Plus Riley is a monsta at wat he do so do yow really think that Riley wont do wat it takes year after year to make this team even better?? Cole already a monsta and he a rook. and the bench deeper than its eva been. i dont see why yow hatin. its a supa squad right now. eveybody playing there part to a T. we keep tightening up that defense and we will b gravy. we hungry round dis camp ya dig. they gonna b callin us chip city forget lob city

Jerry wasn’t taking his medication when he said this. When asked later for clarification he said ‘dey got nuff talent to win a widdle mo games this year and dey got nuff mojo to win ‘tall’.

  • stlheatmaniac

yea and lakeshow dont play for the lakers… but i bet he/she rep his/her squad till the bitter end. what team do u roll wit nbk?? or do u just read post and say lame comments in between jack sessions. WE (ME AND THE HEAT) aint worried bout the hate cause its no more talking this yr. we talking wit W’s. no complaining to reffs or nothing. just playing championship basketball. the whole teams mentallity has changed. im sure you all can see it if you aint too blinded by hate.

  • 15Rangz&Counting!!!

Jerry West is a realist and has a few rings himself so I will second his statement in saying that THE MIAMI HEAT SHOULD WIN MULTIPLE CHAMPIONSHIPS given that they have two of the top three players in the world! Now can they do that ehh? IS KOBE BRYANT still in the league? CHUUCH! DOES HE HAVE 5RANGZ? KACHOW! LOL nuff said LAKESHOW ALL DAY BABY!

  • ClydeSays

“Not one, not two, not three, not four…” I do think they could/should win a chip or two, but that’s just based on the talent. Luck, health & timing have alot to do with it too. Also, whoever Stern has dictated should win that year….

    no sh*t

He talks like he’s part of the fan base when he says we. Not like he’s part of the team. You aren’t in the locker room, you don’t really know how their going to talk to refs, Or react to the hate, or anything at all. You aren’t on the team, or in the camp. Whatever you want to call it.
