Lakers GM: No Signings Any Time Soon

After a sub-par offseason left the Lakers’ roster looking like it would need an extra piece or two for the team to have any chance of competing, Kobe and Co. have put an end to that idea, winning nine of their first 13 behind a monster start from KB. So it should come as no surprise that Mitch Kupchak told ESPNLosAngeles he won’t be wheeling and dealing, at least for the time being: “It has been a month since Los Angeles Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak told reporters the team was still ‘pursuing big deals’ in the aftermath of the vetoed Chris Paul trade that resulted in Lamar Odom ultimately being shipped to Dallas as a consequence. Things have died down since then. ‘We’re in a different time frame right now,’ Kupchak told ESPNLosAngeles.com before the Lakers hosted the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday. ‘You’re talking about a period of time when there was free agency and everybody was scrambling to put together their rosters and sign players and deal with the issues that were out there. We’re into the season now, so generally speaking, when you’re into the season things slow down and people typically want to see how their team looks. So, without being specific, that’s where we are.’ The Lakers have a full 15-man roster at the moment and would need to release a player to add one of the veteran free agents on the market. Accomplished NBA contributors Gilbert Arenas and Joel Przybilla are still without a team and Yahoo! Sports reported Rasheed Wallace is considering coming out of retirement to sign somewhere. ‘We don’t expect to sign anybody any time soon,’ Kupchak said.

This doesnt mean there wont be any TRADES. He is saying they wont SIGN anyone. Which doesnt even matter because Lakers fans dont want to see a “signing”, they want to see DH coming in a trade.

gilbert arenas fits into lakers-under-brown imo! could be a low-risk high value signing..

They probably weren’t impressed with anybody at the D-League showcase… I’m sure they still have there eye on a few players. Gilbert would be interesting. Mike Brown may liken him to Mo Williams when he was with the Cavs.

how is that tom? GA is a 30 year old shoot first (taking shots away from Kobe) as well as Gasol and Bynum, who are already underachieving because Kobe is going off, PG. Health problems as well as mental issues. High-RISK…LOW VALUE!!!

  • Mike from Spain

Ricky Rubio to the Lakers, then I can watch just the Lakers games to keep up with my two favourite Spanish players

The Lakers should bring back AI, if he still has some bball in his legs! Playing behind Kobe, cuz Kobe can’t go on like this the whole season, if they really want to win a championship. Let AI go an a scoring rampage for 10+ minutes a game … like kobe does the whole game!

Good because there is no players worth signing right now in free agency. Dwight Howard will be coming here around March 15th. After that they should look into signing J.R. Smith or Kenyon Martin after their China contracts are up.

Howard isn’t coming to the Lakers dummy

I think the BEST signing the Lakers could try to pull off right now is for a guy named Jerry Sloan.

  • GameTime

AI=good for TV. He’d be the best Laker to wear #3 since Ariza.

Bynum needs to go for Howard, lets make it happen or Pau Gasol for Deron Williams. BOOK IT!!

I think Gerald Green would look good in a lakers uniform. He’d give the lakers the athleticism they lost when they let Ariza and Brown walk in free agency over the last 3 years and he can shoot the ball from deep which none of the lakers are doing well right now. He can also create his own shot which is nice. He’s a liability defensively but with all the length we have upfront it shouldn’t be too big of a problem

    Wilson Chandler?

  • D Michael

Aaron Brooks would fit nicely if we could get him from China

the lakers are now no match with the clippers
    preseason 0-2 clips won
regular 1st match clips won; shall we say “almost sweep!”

bynum’s priority here is to maintain healthy, so i think his ability here
is limited, that’s why clippers are too many 2nd chances of points; more
    rebound than the lakers
his first priority i think; he focus defensively on his feet to maintain
healthy; for sure;he is not 100%playing against deandre or griffin.

    only kobe did his job.

my opinion is trade bynum for howard.
