Monta Ellis: ‘This is a New Day, We’re Not the Same Warriors’

Monta Ellis and his Golden State Warriors teammates were understandably pumped following their upset victory over the Miami Heat in overtime last night, and Ellis claims that changes are afoot in the Bay Area. From the San Fran Chronicle: “There was a point, just like in life, where you can fold the tent, or you can begin to believe and fight back. We did that,’ [coach Mark Jackson] said moments after the Warriors’ 111-106 overtime victory against the Miami Heat. “It’s great for my guys, because the bottom line is you need results in order to trust a system.’ Trust could have been an issue during the Warriors’ five-game losing streak, which looked like it was going to be extended to six. Miami (8-2) held the Warriors without a field goal for the opening 10 minutes of the third quarter and took a 17-point lead. On the heels of learning that point guard Stephen Curry could miss extended games, the Warriors could have easily called it a night. Instead, they closed the gap to 12 points by the end of the third and limited the league’s best offense to 12 points in the fourth. Castaway guard Nate Robinson, who had 24 points and four rebounds, made a layup and a free-throw off a Udonis Haslem technical with 1:44 remaining in regulation to tie it 93-93. After LeBron James and Dwyane Wade made three free throws to go up 96-93, Dorell Wright, who had 20 points and 10 rebounds, made a three-pointer to tie it again with 31.2 seconds left. The Warriors actually got a stop on the Heat’s next possession and had the ball in Monta Ellis’ hands with 13 seconds left and a chance to win. Ellis, who had 22 points on 9-for-25 shooting and nine turnovers, couldn’t get a shot off at the end of regulation. But all sins were forgiven when the Warriors outscored the Heat 15-10 in overtime. ‘This is a new day,’ Ellis said. ‘We’re not the same Warriors. We kept chipping away, we believed, and we came out with a win. “It’s good, but we have to build on it.’”

  • LA Huey

  • Ldub

Ill say this…if DWright didnt go off for 6 3′s, it would have been a totally different game. Dude has been playing horrible this season. averaging like 4ppg. and before last night had 5 3′s total for the season. hopefully this is a sign of things to come for him. just kinda bitter it was against my heat.

Wright decided to perform at the right time, the man just couldn’t miss, but if this was a series GS stands no chance. One game? any team can win, but it was a great game, congrats to the Warriors I was rooting for them.

    overreact much?

  • @Deknowz

People blame the Heat for being arrogant D-bags but act like they won a championship every time they get a win against them. Let’s not get carried away Monta, you still play for Golden State Warriors. Knock it off.

lol but y’all are still not very good. Plus, you trade bait Monta, first top 10 player Golden State can get and your gone.

The warriors so far this season have beat the bulls, heat and knicks and have lost to everyone else… thats nuts. of the 6 teams they have lost to, 5 are western conference teams. the only eastern conference team to beat them is the scorching hot sixers whom i believe started their 6 game winning streak against the warriors. Maybe the warriors would be awesome in the east? i dunno… seems like they can’t beat western conference teams.

A lot of HATERS on this website…

  • G Diesel

I can garantee you that after this HUGE win, the Warriors will win not 1, not 2, not 3, not 4, not 5 , not 6, not 7, but 8 championships?

  • AD

the warriors are going to be a good team once everyone get settled down n healthy.. when you come down from 17 against the heat, that means you have some talent

  • LA Huey

I consider myself a Warriors fan but declaring what Monta did with the record they have at this point is silly.

took some time to get things going….this might be one of those victories that wakes this squad up.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

wouldn’t beating the Bulls have been that victory? Golden State is good at home. It’s that simple.

@max, i thought u was going to direct me to some sprewell

  • http://slamonline.com The Black Rick Kamla

but seriously if Monta Ellis, a guy whose been with this organization for his entire basketball career, whose seen the ups and the terrible lows of this club says “We’re not same Warriors” I’m inclined to believe him. Lets get Steph healthy now

WOW. I went to sleep on this game. I was watching LeBron play with his food before he ate it. Seriously. They were up by 15 by just about the end of the 3rd. So I went to bed. To see the Warriors actually win this game?!? Again. WOW.

@Max man, nothing like some nostalgia. Click my name I got another one….BANANAS

  • Sean B

There should be an NBA law that the Golden State Warriors must remain competitive every year. It’s a travesty they have been so bad over the last 15 years, because they easily have a top 3 fanbase(I rank them right up there with NY/Chicago). There fans last night were electric and it brought back memories of the epic 2007 series with Dallas.

    “Mama there goes that man!”

  • stlheatmaniac

GS cant shoot that good from 3 if they life depended on it. but that was one hell of a win for them omg!!! they played amazing

He’s right. They’re playing with a lot more fire this season. The losses come from not having a healthy squad.
They’ll be fine. They’re just experiencing growing pains. Cmon now, a new coach, new system, lots of new faces, and no curry? They aren’t an elite team, but they will be pretty good. A sixth seed at best, with lots of upset potential.

  • Shifty

Monta should be an all star

  • chingy

Mark Jackson throwing his cliche lines. Love it. “Throw it down!” In all seriousness, the Warriors had no business of winning that game. They’ll need Curry back and healthy to have any chance of sneaking into the plyaoffs.

  • chingy

Whoops..I mean “Hands down, man down”…”throw it down” was from the great Bill Walton

  • http://slamonline.com datkid

I think the warriors might be for real…
