Nicolas Batum Rejected Blazers’ Contract Extension Offer

Nicolas Batum’s agent used somewhat strong language to describe the breakdown in negotiations between his client and the Portland Trailblazers. Per CSNNW: “The Portland Trail Blazers failed to reach an agreement on a contract extension with forward Nicolas Batum and he’ll become a restricted free agent this summer according to Batum’s agent Bouna Ndiaye. ‘We’re still not talking and we’re not willing to accept the offer the Blazers have proposed,’ Ndiaye said. ‘The game is about to start and we haven’t heard anything. We will not accept the offer that is out there.’ [...] ‘When Batum becomes a restricted free agent, we’ll look at the other 29 teams before we talk to the Blazers,’ Batum’s agent Bouna Ndiaye said. ‘The Blazers had their chance.’ Blazers president Larry Miller: ‘Batum’s agent has a right to test the market. We’ve let him know how much we value Batum as a player and a person and we still want him to be part of our organization going forward.’”

Wow… I can’t say that I didn’t see this one coming. Batum is a solid player and will be appreciated on another team that can use long, athletic wings. On the flip side, Crash is the guy you put at 3. Portland’s off-season just got easier.

  • JR

Would be a perfect fit on the Raps!

Saying you have let him know how much he is valued, after he has turned down your contract offer is like saying, “This is Nic Batum’s last season in Portland”

  • NDP

Should’ve traded him last deadline when his value was sky high in the minds of Denver as they looked to add a 3rd team to the Melo deal. Now they’ll be faced with matching some team’s reckless offer, letting him walk or pulling off a bad sign & trade.

would be amazing on the Lakers, we can wait on Ebanks and Metta has his mind outta his head… dude’s only like 25 or what? Lake show get her done it’s time to slowly rebuild

I love this kid’s game. He was killing it in the Euroleague this summer. If the Raptors don’t get an SF in the draft they should definitely try to pursue Batum!

Toney Douglas, 2014 Knicks 1st rounder, 2012 Nuggets 2nd rounder and cash to Blazers.
    Nicolas Batum to the Nuggets.
Andre Miller and 2013 Nuggets 2nd rounder to the Knicks.

wtf? no, this sucks…why didn’t the blazers hurry up and sign him back on, sheesh i like batum in the blazers, he’s perfect there. i mean they should play him more but still i don’t want to see batum move to another team, he belongs in this team. i don’t like what his agent is saying. they want to look at other teams before the blazers. what about batum? does he think this was too?

  • Bravo

Hey JR I totally agree with u! My team rapts need a strong forward to start like batum

Lame! Well he’s as good as gone now.. IMO he should be starting over Wallace like he did at the tail end of last season. Wallace has been very “up and down” this season, especially “down” on the road…

  • Wreckless

Sucks for the Blazers that they can’t afford both Batum n Wallace so I guess they puttin they money on Wallace. I don’t know if I’d bypass an up-n-coming 23 year old for an almost 30 yr old with the mileage that Crash has…unless Blazers are tryin to win the chip in the next couple seasons

  • Warren

He has become a “restricted” free agent so this defeatist attitude is uncalled for.

  • LA Huey

Boss, I know Blazers are your team so you’d know more but since Nate McMillan characterized him as intimidated by Crash, is he the guy you’d want to be paying more than $8 million a year going forward? I think that’s a fair offer for someone who’s ceiling appears to be Luol Deng (and you don’t want to be paying him Luol Deng money).
