Polladaday: Better Pure Scorer?

KD and ‘Melo are two of the best scorers in the game. Who would you trust more to put the ball in the hoop on any given possession?

    Melo can blow by you, spot up, triple threat, and post up. this goes to Melo hands down. Durant can’t bully anyone in the paint quite yet.

    wow, can’t believe people are voting KD on this. do u guys ever watch melo/durant play? melo is probably the only dude who can score anywhere on the court. post, 3s, mid-range, finishes in the paint etc.

    Carmelo’s still the most versatile scorer in the game. There are zero holes in his game offensively. Get back to me when durant can play bully ball.

    This poll is strangely skewed. I like KD a lot more than I like Melo, but come on!–nobody has the scorer’s touch from everywhere/anywhere on the court like Carmelo.

    KD is the more popular choice, but make no mistake about it, Melo is the better purer scorer.

    Anybody that says melo is a better scorer than durant is dumb! Durant is 6’10 guard who can sore 40 any given night! Melo is a better skilled scorer but not as efficient. Saying melo is better a scorer because he is a pure scorer is like saying Shaq is better at then Nash cause he’s a pure passer.

    ppl aint playin for scoring titles there playing for titles, melos post game is way to strong, this goes to melo hands down he can score anywhere on the floor scoring title or no scoring title. when durant gets stronger and becomes a threat in the post then hell be the best scorer

    For those who say it’s Durant, please re-read the question. If it says whos the better scorer, then stats alone will shut us all up. By asking for the better of the 2 in terms of being a ‘pure-scorer’, it implies a larger perspective of their offensive capabilities, not just “oh KD’s got 2 scoring titles”.

    Jay I respect your knowledge of the game and how to look up statistics, but the question asks “who” would you trust with the ball and I want the ball in the hands of 6’10 guard on any given possession

    Melo is a mismatch for every defender, the same cannot be said of KD. I’d bet that the majority of the leagues best defenders would rather gaurd KD because while he is incredibly good at the things he does well (shooting, slashing), there are still holes in his offensive game (post scoring, bullying smaller defenders). As a defender, if you try to limit or take away one or two ways for him to score, he’ll score in one or two different ways.

    It’s hard to say it’s Melo even though he scores in a much wider variety of ways because Durant scores more points, more efficiently, more consistently, and from a younger age. Melo is the more well rounded scorer, Durant is the better “pure” scorer though. When you look for something to be pure you don’t ask how it got that way, you just care how pure it is compared to something else. When thinking about a pure scorer like you would think about anything else being “pure” (gold for example) you would have to say Durant is the more pure scorer.
