Report: Dwight Howard Adds Clippers to Trade Wish-List

by Marcel Mutoni @marcel_mutoni

Not too long ago, there was talk of Dwight Howard and Chris Paul playing together in Los Angeles. Of course, no one at the time pictured the two superstars both donning LA Clipper uniforms.

According to SheridanHoops, Dwight has added the Clippers to his list of teams he wouldn’t mind the Orlando Magic trading him to:

“He’s been watching them a lot. He’s intrigued by the Clippers,” said the source, who is privy to the trade talks that have taken place between all of the aforementioned teams. That source also said it now appears more likely that Howard will play out the season with the Magic, who improved to 9-3 Monday afternoon by defeating the New York Knicks 102-93 while making 17 3-pointers and getting just 8 points and 10 rebounds from Howard.

But the source said the most likely scenario that would land Howard in Lob City would be an offseason sign-and-trade deal. Howard has soured on the idea of joining the Nets this season and missing the playoffs, especially since he could still join the Nets next summer prior to their move to Brooklyn and join a lineup that would include a re-signed Deron Williams, Brook Lopez, MarShon Brooks, Anthony Morrow and the Nets’ lottery pick, which will be a good pick in a well-stocked draft. But that would require a commitment from Williams that he will stay with the Nets for the move to Brooklyn — and that is not a sure thing.

The Magic and Clippers reportedly haven’t had any serious trade talks yet, but that could obviously change.

Would the Clippers be willing to trade away some of their key pieces this season, ensuring they land the NBA’s best center before another team does (or he has a chance to test the free agent market?)

No one knows, of course, but Dwight Howard’s situation just got a whole lot more interesting.

Yes Dwight has the right to make it known that he wants to leave. But that doesn’t make it a good thing. If you were a top level executive in your company and wanted to leave, you wouldn’t (or shouldn’t) make it public. It’s not a matter of whether he has the right to or not, it’s a matter of professionalism.

Back in the day, NBA Stars were all professionals. That’s why the 92 Dream Team was such a great group of ambassadors for the NBA. They not only won, they were classy guys.

Guys like Hakeem the Dream, Pat Ewing, The Admiral, The Mailman, MJ, Pip, Miller Time, Clyde the Glide – All stuck with their teams through the good and bad. And that’s how it should be.

You guys do realize that some of these stories are made up don’t u? Or coming from people with ulterior motives. Stories coming from un-named sources need to be taken with a grain of salt. This didnt come from his mouth in an interview….people need to relax.

If Dwight goes to the Clippers, Blake Griffin will be headed east to Orlando. The Magic don’t make this trade unless they get Griffin and Deandre Jordan. Anyone else who thinks otherwise has to be delusional to think the Magic would take just scrubs and draft picks back. After all, the Clippers already traded the farm for Paul; who else do they have left but scrubs…

  • ripslam

Does anyone else find this “wishlist” of teams completely pathetic? You are not the GM of the team Dwight, you’ve requested a trade, now shut it and do what you’re paid to do: play basketball. While his team is thinking about winning games, dude is focused on where he’s going to play next year and what his freaking shoe company wants. Disgusting.

i remember watching the DAL/LAL game and shaq saying bynum was the best big man in the game right now. . .It’s really hard to agree with that at times but i mean, bynum is a more traditional big man, and he scores and boards well. . . i don’t know who i take in that situation

Report: Dwight is playing like wet dogsh*t out there and nobody in orlando has the balls to confront him with his childish behavior. You can’t look yourself in the mirror like you gave it your all when you score 8 points grab 10 rebounds and have 6 turnovers after scoring a 40 and 20 line the other night.

hows about dwight howard stays put in orlando…magic are like 9 – 3. stop crying. if howard wants to be on a winning team than perhaps step up. any team in the nba can win the chip if you play hard enough, defense, and as a team. that said, dwight howard wants to join the d-league.

HDTV: The players don’t owe the owners loyalty. “Sticking by your team” is the DUMBEST horseh*t idea any player could have. Teams trade guys whenever they want so guys should leave at the completion of their contract if they want to. None of them are wrong for requesting a trade, but in the age of the internet everything is public today. The dirty laundry of those older players would be aired if they played in this era. They were no different.

  • shutup

Rik Smits would have busted Dwights a$$, Chris weber, vlade Divac I can think of a couple others like Sam Perkins, Sabonis, Mourning, Dikembe, wow I just thought about it Dikembe was a better post player than Howard, so lets not just say Dwight would be top 5 back then, big men had to battle back then, watched the 30 for 30 on espn about the pacers and the physicality would have tested Dwights blow up muscles

Now the Clippers?? He just wants to leave Orlando… I bet he’d play for the Bobcats. I do feel sorry for him though. Management has screwed this team over. They have a full roster of scrubs including Dwight. To be honest I hope the Lakers don’t get him because Andrew is LA’s big man. Best center in the league?… As of right now, YES! The league will be boring a few years from now. Pretty soon we will see more teams like the HEAT.

^^^ Bynum and Dwight will always be compared as who is the best C in the L. And that is they are the only C’s in the L that have a similar offense game. Back to the basket. Jordan in LA and Chandler in NY are almost the only other C’s and they are defensive, even Perk in OKC. I think that I would pull the trigger on a BYNUM for DH trade (if i were the Lakeshow). Howard can somewhat carry a team (hes proven it). Bynum? I dont think he has it, nor will he have it. The market is too big IMO for Bynum and DH would also be the future that Bynum cant be once KB is out. Bring in another star such as Dwill and your good for another 5-7 years of quality ball.

@dazzy: First of all, I didn’t say that Dwight HAS to stick to his team, I am just saying that he should be more of a professional about it. They should act like Professionals. Besides, Dwight is a Franchise player – he isn’t a scrub. Franchise players in Dwight’s category generally don’t just get traded. But it does go both ways – players and owners should have more loyalty.

  • not d-ho

The winningest bball coach of all time on any level, Morgan Wootten, told me this summer that if Dwight Howard had 2 post moves he could be the best center in the game. He’s 80 now I believe, but it was funny at how right he was. Once a teacher, always a teacher.

Ok, some things to get straight:
-Bynum is not better than Dwight. Shaq is a biased idiot and so are you if you believe him.
-The Magic offense revolves around a big man in the middle. Therefore, in any trade, they will demand a post scorer back.
-Dwight is a baby (and I’ve been a fan of his since high school).
-My money says Dwight ends up on the Mavericks via free agency.
-I wish he would be traded. And I’m a well known Magic fan.
-I do not understand why he wants to leave the Magic. It’s definitely not like he’s willing them to wins.

  • Allenp

People really have no idea about NBA history. Ever since they stopped the reserve clause players have been making demands.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

    No idea at all.

  • Justin G.

Dwight would not be top 5 back in that era. I forgot about Mourning and to a lesser extent, Smits. Bynum is not overall better than Howard but I think offensively he is. @shutup…Webber, Vlade, and especially Sam Perkins? Really? You’re smoking some of the good stuff again aren’t you? HDTV, you are right. It’s how it should be but unfortunately today’s basketball player doesn’t want to work hard and make their team better. They want to join together with other superstars or get traded to already proven winners to try and win. They act like everything is owed to them and it’s pathetic.

this trade news was from 2 days ago. slams amazingly SLOW. theres no back to this retarded rumor nor can the clippers afford to trade assets. only way he wears a clippers jersey is if orlando is stupid enough to let him walk without anything in return. NOT going to happen. Lakers has the best chance at Howard. 2nd Best Center in the league Andrew Bynum+ is Orlandos best bet. not only do the Lakers have the assets, they have the cap space to sign Howard. on that note, Orlando loses any possible way. Bynums Orlandos best bet.

  • http://SLAM FLIGHT 9

hope they trade cp3 and blake for dwight!!!! seriously, just get it done so the heat will never win a title!!!!!

  • Justin G.

Howard is not worth CP3 and Griffin. He’s barely worth Griffin

  • thecomputerdude

    Dwight please stop it.

Let’s not crucify today’s players for wanting to join forces with other stars to win easily. I remember Charles Barkley tried in Houston, Karl Malone and Gary Payton in LA and more recently Kevin Garnett. Having said that, those guys played in one place and tried to win for years before moving but they all had winning pieces around them so they didn’t have to try to leave. Shoot! Jordan had Pippen and Horace Grant(then Rodman) so there was no need for him to skip town!

Dwight needs to play better defense

Why trade a devoloping young, athletic center like Jordan who is leading the NBA in blocked shots? Billups takes pressure off Chris Paul.He should maybe go to a team who doesn’t have a center like Philadelphia, New Jersey, Sacramento, etc.
