Report: Kevin Love, Timberwolves Agree on 4-Year, $62 Million Extension

The Pioneer Press is reporting tonight that Kevin Love and the Minnesota Timberwolves have agreed on a contract extension that will pay the star forward $62 million over the next four seasons. Not quite the max deal that Love had been looking for: “Minnesota Timberwolves All-Star forward Kevin Love has agreed to a four-year, $62 million contract extension and is expected to sign the new deal Wednesday afternoon in Dallas, a person close to the situation told the Pioneer Press. Love, 23, and the Wolves are in Dallas to play the defending NBA champion Mavericks on Wednesday night. Love, who is earning $4.6 million this season, needs to sign an extension before 11 p.m. Wednesday, or he will become a restricted free agent after the season.”

Jeez, about time they gave him an extension — Dude can shoot the three and averages 25 and 14. Damn

K Love deserves this extension he’s a top 6 power foward behind
    1. Dirk Nowitzki
    2. Andray Blatche
    3. Lamarcus Aldridge
    4. Blake Griffin
    5. Stat / Tim Duncan (when he takes his advil)
    6. K Love

@Smith.. are you crazy? Blatche is the second best pf in the league? I’ll give you Dirk at #1 just because he is the reigning Finals MVP and just won a chip, but Love is #2. This extension is much deserved, and if a guy like Westbrook (who is a great player) gets max money, I’d actually say the TWolves got away with one by not having to give Love that extra year.

@LaKid, you need to chill. He’s clearly trolling.

  • jayrose

@smith….your crazy! how the heck is blatche second best? You must be a fan but sorry bud the truth of the matter is he isn’t. Ask anybody who watches the game.

Good deal if they get it done at 4 years. The new cba only allows a team to have one player at the 5 year max. So, if rubio keeps progressing into the Rajon Rondo/Steve Nash hybrid super freak. They can throw some money at him down the road.

  • b-nEWT

Andray Blatche, the second best?….his mom is the number 1 poinr guard too…

  • Canesta

That’s a slap in the face! How Minny isn’t giving him the max…I don’t understand why K-Love will sign?

  • Heals

Win-win. Minny isn’t hamstrung paying a really good player Max $$$ and KLo isn’t going to have the burden of being a “Max” guy…

  • TonyStarks

Canesta: Cause $15.5M/season is more than enough for KLove to feel that he is appreciated by the front office .. and it leaves some room for flexibility to make another major signing down the road (whether it be Rubio or a star from another team). Clearly Love believes in what the TWolves are trying to build and was willing to take a small hit in his pocket to achieve that.

  • marchalmadness

Why do people feel that 15.5 million in not enough. Damn, i would like my boss to pay me 1 million every year and i would be happy

  • Jono

@marchalmadness Because you’re probably not the best 3/4 people in the world at your job.

No he isn’t. He’s probably 5th best behind (and not necessarily in order here) Bosh, Aldredge, Pau, and Dirk. Sorry but his D is just not good enough to make him the best PF in the game. Not yet anyway. People are always putting too much emphasis on offense and stats

  • http://www.optimabbc.be Max

There still is a pf called the white mamba, so cut the best pf talks..

  • Jono

  • Mike From Spain

What of Paul Millsap? He’s killing it. And Zach Randolph is another PF, right? He was also killing it before the injury.

  • Riggs

He doesn’t want to hinder his team’s future taking all of that money. You know, cause he’s smart.

  • everyone wolves reporter has denied this deal even love said it was just internet bs…

  • RunNGun

LOVE, IMO, is the third best PF in the league behind Dirk and Aldridge. It looks like the Timberpups are saving the max for Ricky Rubio. I wouldn’t blame them though because there’s an abundance of PFs in the league now but PGs, well great PGs, are harder to come by.

  • logues

Justin G: so dirk plays good defense?? yea, he’s maybe a little better defender than love, but i dont care if dirk is the reigning finals mvp, love is clearly outplaying him this yr in about every statistical category… even 3′s!! o, and bosh isn’t a great defender either, and hauls down about half the rebounds love does

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Kevin Love wanted an opt out clause after 3 years. Couldn’t get the max with that stipulation.

  • Justin G.

logues: I didn’t say Dirk plays good defense but it’s better than Love’s. Obviously Dirk is not himself right now and playing for Germany really affected him this year which is why he is resting. There isn’t a player, coach, GM, or owner who would take Love over Nowitzki. Bosh is CLEARLY a better all around player. Better help side defender, more athletic…with Wade out you’re starting to see exactly what Bosh can do when he gets enough touches. Love is a stat stuffer for sure but as an all around PF he’s not in the top 5. Which isn’t a bad thing btw considering he’s only 23
