Sources: Carmelo Anthony Wanted Josh Howard for the Knicks

by Sulaiman Folarin / @sulaiman4real

Sources reveal to SLAMonline that Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony recruited Josh Howard during the offseason to play in The Big Apple.

Anthony called Howard multiple times, according to sources, to convince the former Wizards forward to join the Knicks’ frontcourt as Anthony’s backup.

The two had lengthy conversations about the possibility of teaming up in New York, sources revealed. “Melo wanted him to come to New York real bad,” one source said.

If the move came to fruition, Howard would likely have come off the bench as Anthony’s backup and played the shooting guard position down the stretch.

But the Jazz offered a potential starting gig and the opportunity to reunite with former Mavs teammate Devin Harris.

Sources also confirm that Howard and Harris worked out in Dallas together numerous times during the lockout.

So, I wonder if he got more money in Utah too than he would have in NY.

what carmelo needs to do is shutup and play, LEAD his team or just retire…
his excuses are just getting lame…

  • BRAVO

    ^agreed

  • Drunyce

I see no ‘Melo quotes. Just a report he wanted Josh in Ny, & that some how equates to an excuse? SMH…

You guys should’ve left the title as “Carmelo wanted Howard for the Knicks.” Then everyone would’ve thought he was talking about Dwight Howard. Lol. Although I have reports that the Knicks are interested…

    *I have “read”

  • Fat Lever

Anyone see the irony here of Howard wanting to play with his boy and spurning Melo? The NBA, where BFF’s happen.

  • stlheatmaniac

^thats hellllaaa funny lhh! where bff’s happen lmfao!

  • stlheatmaniac

Melo u are the reason they are failing. you should b able to average a double double every game wit the front court u have. He should b able to get the rock to amare in the post and chandler in the post wear teams down having his team mates score in the paint. then wit melo scoring ability it should b a lot of open buckets but he rather be a ball hog. he rather jack up shots before his team gets set no matter how bad of an off night he has. its all melo fault they suck so bad and he wont play defense nor can they coach teach it. but oh welll, the heat taking care of business so i aint trippin

How does this qualify as news?

    - “Melo wanted him to come to New York real bad,” one source said. -

    Seriously?

  • LA Huey

@niQ, so surprised SLAM didn’t do that considering their penchant for misleading titles.

  • riggs

lol @ slam for typing up this article and lmao @ the idiots thinking melo even said anything in this article.

Dont see how Josh Howard would help solve NYK’s problem of bad defense and poorly executed offence, dude takes too many long 2′s as it is

You know what else this source revealed? That SLAM will post random tidbits of knowledge just because they get it. Here is an exclusive newsflash: I just ate a burrito, but I think I mightve actually wanted McDonalds. However McDonalds requires driving and I had bought the burrito a couple days ago so I figured I should eat it before it went bad.
