Deron Williams on Jeremy Lin: ‘What Phenomenon?’

Careful, D-Will. Things didn’t turn out so well for Kobe Bryant and the Lakers when he tried to downplay the magic of Linsanity. From the NY Daily News: “Why would we get excited about the Knicks? We’re 8-21, I’m worried about us, not what Jeremy Lin’s doing,’ he said. Williams — a father of four — said he doesn’t watch television, not since giving it up while playing overseas in Turkey. So he playfully pleaded ignorance when asked about Lin, even though the sensation started after the Knicks point guard scored 25 points against Williams. ‘What phenomenon?’ Williams asked. Finally, after the fifth question about Lin, he cut off the subject. ‘Ya’ll got anything about tonight? Anything that’s relevant with us?’”

While everyone is busy over-hyping lin, I would be a little more concerned about “what this stretch of games, by a player whose seeing his first real minutes in the league, says about the quality of today`s game?” It seems like about two-thirds of the league is either under or hovering around the .500 mark. Because of this, there is an exceptionally high probability of playing a mediocre, bad, or flat-out horrendous team from one night to the next. Even the teams with nice overall records (well over .500) like orlando, lal, philly, san ant, and so on … have major issues. Orlando is totally dependent on the 3-point shot (as they proved in the 1st round of last year`s playoffs) and they`re still dealing with the dwight dilemma. lal`s backcourt is beyond repair (fisher, blake) and their offense has been at a stand-still since the first game of the season. philly is a good team with no explosion, a questionable frontcourt, and an inconsistent offense. And san antonio is a good regular season team with minimal playoff potential – probably 2nd round knockout. There are no “great” teams and the greatest-talents are concentrated in just a few organizations. The remaining talent is unevenly distributed among the rest of the league resulting in bad quality.

I remember when players in the NBA hated each other because they wanted to win. It would’ve been impossible to put together “big 3′s” back then. Today, you have players hangin out w/ each other like Lebron, rudy gay, chris paul and other dudes who are supposed to be rivals. the game has changed quite a bit.

Relevant question? You really want to talk about why New Jersey is 8-22 while New York has won 7 in a row…

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

Agreed Gametimeweezy…I bet Deron Williams is longing for those days in Utah when he was on a winner under Jerry Sloan.

@ AllenP in regards to noone calling you out,ah yes they have , refer to Izzo ‘s post Feb 15th at 12:31pm on the thread with Shaq saying Dwight leaving Orlando would be a travesty.I used to say about 5 or 6 years ago i really respected your comments but lately and especially when it comes to race related issues i’ve found you are really ignorant and i know you are from African American descent but that doesn’t entitle you to be racist. A racist is a racist, whether you are white, black, pink, yellow, or any colour. Mate you need to only comment on BBall related topics( that’s what you are good at) leave all other aspects of life alone. RIP AllenP of 2007

I have to do a paper on media and sports. And I knew i wasnt the only one that thought Lin is being real hyped up. He’s a good basketball player but to ask other players how they feel about him is quite annoying.

Izzo was being sarcastic. He and I knew that because he and I have been commenting here for far too long.
But you’re entitled to believe whatever you want to believe about me, and feel however you want to feel. I’m completely cool with that.

Yeah, what does the father of four part have to do with anything? Is the reporter they just trying to throw in random facts to look like an insider? “Deron Williams – who’s favorite snack is Lorna Doones – says Jeremy isn’t all that Linsational.”

I love the Jeremy Lin story and have blessed with six kids by birth and adoption. So what?

The first time Williams met Lin he got the better of him the second time it was a different story. After Miami played physical against Lin other teams started doing the same thing.
