Derrick Rose Says He ‘Never’ Asked Bulls to Trade for Pau Gasol

Derrick Rose denied published reports that he had quietly urged the Chicago front-office to go after Pau Gasol. Per CSN: “I heard it after the game [on Monday] and that’s something that I wouldn’t say to anyone,’ said Rose. ‘It was all false and that’s something I’ll never do. I’m good with the teammates that I have. I’ve always been saying that. We’ve been winning games and we’re not in the position to look to trade anyone right now. I talked to [Boozer] a little bit, but I think he already knew that [the rumor] was false,’ continued Rose. ‘It’s something that I wouldn’t do to anyone. It was all false.’”

Durant was playing in summer league after summer league I saw love for the game the way he was playing, same reason I have a lot of respect for Harden. As for Dwight I’ve seen development, but is it wrong to expect more? As a student of the game I have an affinity for undersized post players and skilled post players it started with Barkley, then I read he said Mchale was the hardest person for him to guard in his career studied his game, went old school and got James Worthy tapes from the old heads at the park Adrian Dantley, The Microwave, then it was Olajuwan, Patrick Ewing, even Rik Smits at the time then Shaq and Duncan now we have Dwight, so much and honestly it wouldnt be so bad if he was a leader or showed that fire it takes to win a chip in the nba, actually last year was the first time in a while that I felt there wasnt a real killer in the finals. Even with a rudimentary offensive game he could emulate Russell, his lack of understanding of the team concept is what kills it for me. and for the record I’m not a Bulls fan- Its the Spurs for me, but I can appreciate a love for the game, not some petulant whining that comes off like a spoiled child.

If Cleveland hadn’t gotten off to a slowish start, they would be closer to that eighth spot.

tom thibodeau would lead the Bulls. – And Allen, I can’t believe you just said Cleveland. What your saying is that Cleveland will end up above .500 considering you just said “But, even without Rose they would probably be over .500 in a season.” Cleveland is currently 13-18.

Dwight has made progress as a player. But, considering his athletic ability, he has always looked like a player that is falling short of his potential. He can’t shoot free throws so he is not a complete player. And he is still very immature in the way he acts, talks, and presents himself.

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

Deng is the bulls’ 2nd best player.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

The Cavs are 5-6 in the month of February. Only 2 of those games have been on the road.

  • http://www.nba.com Red

Thibs is far away from his playing days at Salem State I think he’d rather coach. With that being said, wow you’re stupid. You really think without a star any coach can lead a team to the playoffs? Really lol wow

  • http://www.nba.com Red

Yes Deng is but he couldn’t lead the Bulls he tried already. He’s gotten better since Rose came and is now finally an all-star.

  • http://www.yahoo.com The Fury

Bulls can still be a “playoff” team even without Rose, not “championship” caliber though. Kirk Hinrich used to run the show for Da Bulls and they were already a defensive team even before Tim arrived.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

You don’t need a star to make the playoffs. That idea is stupid. Denver is about to make the playoffs for a second straight year, without anything close to a star player.

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

I’m sorry but somehow with DHow’s skill and talent level avg. barely above 20ppg isn’t impressive in the slightest bit. Given the ineptitude of the 5 spot in today’s NBA, the guy should be dropping 25-27ppg every night and blocking 3+ shots. We can not hold other superstars to high standards while giving Howard a pass on his lack of dominant play night in and night out.

denver is the ninth seed and falling fast.

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

    *someone*

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

9th seed with the same record as the 8th seed. But your right. My fault. The point still stands, you don’t need a star player to make the playoffs. And that Bulls team, even without Rose is better then every team in the East but the top 7. At least, imo.

  • http://www.yahoo.com The Fury

@shutup…a fully “healthy” Denver could be a top 10 team in the NBA.

  • http://www.nba.com Red

Yeah healthy with its star player Danilo.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

LOL, Luol Deng is better then Danilo.

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

Actually Deng “led” the bulls past the defending champs Miami Heat in the 07 Playoffs. So let’s not act like dude is useless without Rose by his side.

  • http://www.nba.com Red

With regards to age yes he is. And he has another star in Lawson.

  • http://www.yahoo.com The Fury

who says Gallo is a “star” player?

  • shutup

Philo droppin ish like a pigeon. NBK not so much. @Fury what is fully healthy really? I mean i get the concept but does it actually exist? Didnt Jordan drop 45 with a flu, have you ever seen Bird’s hands ? a fully healthy Shaq would run the league. If Steve Francis didnt have migraines he coulda been one of the best pg’s ever. I have enough trouble dealing with reality, thank you very much

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

I think that if they hadn’t struggled out of the gate, the Cavs would finish right around .500. And it could still happen.
And, Dwight is a very good player. Last year he averaged 23 and 14. That’s dominating.
I don’t expect him to score as much as players in the past because that’s not his game and that’s not his team’s game. Yes, he could be better, but y’all act like he’s been wasting time and not really improving because he’s always laughing. You don’t judge improvement by potential, you judge improvement by looking at the starting point.
Y’all just don’t like Dwight. His demeanor and his game. And that’s cool. But I think dude would have gotten the same 20 and 14 he’s been putting up since he was 22 in any era.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

the same dude that said Ty Lawson is.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

When you look at this shot attempts and scoring average, it makes perfect sense.

  • http://www.nba.com Red

Miami winning that year was a fluke and only cause Wade carried that team. Deng is good but not at his full potential without Rose.

Man I tweeted a picture of Magic killing in the 92 all star game last week with a big ass smile on his face. I loved that about him.

  • shutup

Smiling but Magic was a killer on the court same as Isiah; Dwight doesnt possess that, nor the same kind of leadership those two share or the sense of team they both embodied.

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

Fair enough but explain to me the lack of blocks comparable to past defensive greats at the center position. I think I had the same convo with Jukai on why DHow’s block shots look measley compared to guys like Deke, Hakeem, ZO and even someone like Camby. I know that blocks isn’t the tell all for how effective a defensive player is but Howard’s career BPG is shockingly low for someone with his size and athleticism.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

For how much Dwight is being criticized as a leader, he’s taken his team further then the other guys that are being celebrated as “better leaders”
    .
    .
    just sayin

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

JTaylor, the NBA game is played completely different now then it was in the 90s and every era before that. More shots from the perimeter + slower pace = less blocks for everyone.

  • http://slamonline.com The Philosopher

Agree with shutup that Dwight Howard is not a “killer”.
His peers do not fear him like they would fear someone else.

  • http://www.nba.com Red

Says the same guy who thinks Bulls can contend without Rose. Nbk be trying to protect his internet. Image mad hard lol bum.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

When you watch Dwight play do you ever think “He really doesn’t do a great job protecting the rim.”
If you never think that, then why worry about the stats so much? Only person better at protecting the rim than Dwight Howard is DeAndre Jordan.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

JTaylor, It’s easy. Dwight doesn’t _gamble_ like Deke, Hakeem, and Zo always did.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

And DeAndre only averages 2.6 blocks.

  • http://slamonline.com. datkid

shutup who said I was defending rose’s mvp? I just said a rose-less bulls would make the playoffs. They’d be like an 8th seed but they’d make it. but for the record Rose took what would be an 8th seed to #1 seed…sounds fairly mvp worthy to me. and pau’s current #’s and performance in the playoffs last year should be proof enough of his decline but whatever.

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

The last time ORL played MIA, I said the exact same thing. He does a good job protecting the rim but he’s not the shot-blocker those guys were regardless of era and playing styles. He doesn’t have the timing, positioning and relentess energy/passion those guys had going after shots.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

Gotta put Serge I’llblockya right next to those two also.

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

How many times did Wade and Bron attack the rim unmolested while DHow stood there watching? Guys like Zo and Deke got dunked on countless times yet they stood their ground every time a player attacked the basket.
Also, Ibaka is a better shot-blocker/rim defender than DHow.

lol, no, the Bulls are still a playoff team, with or without Rose. They are a contender with him. That’s the difference.

  • http://www.nba.com Red

I said they aren’t a playoff with Rose, I believe that’s what I been arguing, that without Rose they can’t go to the playoffs. So you look like a jackass dontcha, k.
