Reports: Derrick Rose Wants Pau Gasol in Chicago

The latest Pau Gasol trade rumor — there have been a lot lately, to the chagrin of Gasol and his teammates — involves Derrick Rose and the Chicago Bulls. From Marca and Sheridan Hoops: “Derrick Rose has let it be known to Bulls management that we wants to play with Pau Gasol if Chicago is able to swing a trade with the Los Angeles Lakers for the veteran power forward from Spain, a source said. The Spanish news outlet Marca was the first to report Sunday that Rose has given his blessing for the Bulls to go after Gasol with a package that would be centered around Carlos Boozer and another player. ‘He hasn’t said so publicly, but he has made that known privately,’ said the source. [...] Carlos Boozer has three years and $46 million remaining on his contract, while Gasol is due to make $38 million over the next two seasons. The Lakers have an $8.9 million trade exception from the Lamar Odom trade that they could use to acquire a player making up to that amount without surrendering much (it could be as little as a conditional second-round pick) in return, which gives general manager Mitch Kupchak enormous flexibility in trying to improve a Lakers team that has struggled offensively all season. If the Bulls were willing to surrender backup point guard C.J. Watson in a Boozer-Gasol deal, it would address the Lakers’ need for a young, steady point guard to buttress their current rotation of Derek Fisher and Steve Blake.”

really, cj watson? that trade would be garbage for the lakers. just go after brooks when he comes back from china, he seems to be completely forgotten.

  • bull22

^iam all in for this trade but if the lakers do this, you are right.
very unbalanced trade.. *lookup lamar odom, LOL.

  • lakerjb23

The Lakers would not do this boozers pretty inaffective and has a huge contract if they could get a three team deal that sends a PG to us that would be ok.

  • robb

    Carlos Boozer???? no thanks

  • Shem

I understand why D Rose would prefer Gasol to Boozer but you can’t publicly go out and say it. He may not have specifically said it in those words but he said he wanted a top 5 power forward in Chicago. This can only mess up chemistry. For the Lakers though, CJ Watson and Boozer are you kidding me? That’s a terrible deal and I think there are so many other options for a starting pg out there. Calderon would be the best one in my opinion, 3rd in the league in assists with 2 very good finishing big men and arguably one of the best scorers of all time.

  • http://www.bullsbythehorns.com Welp

So since when are Marca and Sheridan Hoops reliable sources? Even if it were legit, the Lakers would want way more than Boozer. The whole world knows he plays like hes 5’9″ and 145lbs. The only way they do that is if Pau demanded a trade and wanted something done quick and even then Id see LA wanting Taj Gibson or Asik somewhere in that deal….I see LA and Orlando pulling something off before this fabricated rumor…

  • l2ising Phoenix

And how would this make the lakers better? And I lol’d at the word buttress.

No way the Lakers give up Pau Gasol to the Bulls without the Bulls building a package (Boozer, Watson) around Deng.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

    Noah & CJ

  • Marco

Yes, and i want a ferrari in exchange for my punto.

  • angus

if bulls give up deng thats crazy, not a too lopsided trade imo, pau is not who he was in memphis…

  • Jer Dawg

No boozer and his receding hairline.

  • http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=7fxmsc8 Kyle

Click my name, this is the only trade that makes sense for me for these teams. Still don’t think they’ll make a trade like this…when was the last time Bulls’ GM made a huge move like this? It’s been a while. Their whole team is free agents and draft picks.

  • http://www.nba.com Red

Na I hope we don’t do this I hate boozer but I love all our other pieces.

  • http://www.racialicious.com/2012/02/15/memewatch-adventures-in-linsanity/#more-20490 Allenp

Who in their right mind would trade Gasol for Boozer, with CJ Watson as the hinge piece? that is asinine.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

The Lakers would not take back Boozer. idk why anyone thinks that is realistic. It isn’t.

  • bull22

the only thing that is certain is the la lakers as i said at beginning of the season are in shambles. i still think dwight will end up in la and copy shaq’s career because he is apparently desperate for a ring like lebron is.

  • bull22

@red, i love all of our pieces too but if the lakers are willing to give gasol for boozer and watson, and some cap space. let them do it, jimmie buss may just do it… i highly doubt he will be idiotic twice though, hahahahahha.

  • http://aol.com Kyle

The best trade would be Bulls get Pau, Lakers get Deng, third team gets boozer so he doesn’t have to come off the bench. But I don’t see a deal going without a third team.

  • Bob

Well what if lakers do want boozer and then trade boozer and bynum for dwight? possible

  • http://www.nba.com Red

Oh yeah Pau for Boozer+Watson is an easy hell yeah but let’s be real Buss isn’t that much of an idiot so I’m against this trade

  • T-Money

i hate boozer, as a basketball player. in the game vs boston, he went it alone on the break and missed a left-handed lay up instead of dunking the ball. that’s all you need to know about his lazy -ss.

  • bull22

for sure the untouchable bulls are rose, deng, gibson and hamilton.

  • king

houston wants gasoft too, why not go for kyle lowry. hes so underrated.

  • http://Google Johnny boy

Please guys there is no way Lakers trade pau for that Booz garbage.

  • Matt Park

Noah isn’t untouchable? Honest question btw.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

No he isn’t. Neither is Gibson. (Hamilton is just no eligible to be traded)

  • ThaWindy

Bulls should really really go after Howard.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

If they want to waste a bunch of time….

  • http://www.nba.com Red

Yeah Noah is untouchable, as is Asik if you ask me.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Considering this is Joakim’s contract schedule
    $10,000,000 -
    $11,050,000 -
    $12,100,000 -
    $13,150,000 -
    $14,200,000 -
    No he isn’t untouchable.

  • ThaWindy

I think Howard would come. He has to know he’s wanted. Giving up Noah, who is one of the heart beats of this team, would say enough.
No player is untouchable for Howard.

  • T-Money

the only untouchable is rose. rumors have been circulating that deng+noah+gibson+picks for dwight+turk is on the table for orlando.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

    where you hear that T?

  • bull22

@matt i love my bulls, but noah and boozer need to start living up to their contracts and make the game easier for the rest of their teammates with stronger play at the rim. i want to see the noah from a few years ago and not the one that makes me pull my hair when he gives away easy turnovers or stands around with no clue as to what to do with ball.

  • bull22

the good thing is after march 15, 2012 all of us will have to deal with the team that we support as fans, and live and die with the team. if everyone stays put in chicago, my hope is that boozer and noah improve.

  • http://www.alllooksame.com Tarzan Cooper

Evil parrot face is a joke.
Coincidentilly, he played his best with deron williams

  • http://www.racialicious.com/2012/02/15/memewatch-adventures-in-linsanity/#more-20490 Allenp

I can’t see Orlando doing that trade. They just don’t get enough back. I like all three of those players, but I’m not exactly sure what Gibson brings as a starter.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Deng & Noah though, and your shedding Turks albatross. — Other then the Nets offer (and the Gasol + Bynum deal) I can’t see a better trade anywhere.

  • Sigh

man this just shows how stupid jerrys son is. rose and the bulls knows what pieces makes a championship. i bleed purple and gold alllll day, that being said, the ignorant baby buss is seriously ruining the Lakers with his infatuation with bynum. Laker Nation needs to let it be known that we need to build around pau AND kobe not KB alone.

  • ThaWindy

If there is a deal to be done Bulls should jump. Like someone said Bulls management usually does not make big deals. I just hope they go against convention.

  • Chukaz

As a Laker fan the only way i’d be okay with trading gasol is if we get LaMarcus Aldridge back. I’d settle for Boozer AND Deng (all i want is deng. one more metta world peace brick and i might off myself)

  • http://www.slamonline.com Slick Ric

This is complete bs and I dont believe it, dont lobby for howard or lebron but do it for pau gasol. whatever!

  • http://cechicagorilla@aol.com truth serum

this is a BALD FACE LIE!!! as slick ric said u dont lobby for dwight or lebron but for gasol? and no credible national media reports it but some paper in spain does??? this is str8 B.S and SLAM u aint ish for posting it

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

He isn’t lobbying publicly. Which is the only way to really know how he felt. So it’s no different.

  • http://www.nba.com Red

I don’t think this is true but I’m going by the article & hypothetically. I hope the Lakers are big enough chumps to do a boozer+Watson trade:( lol Mike James is a decent back up to Rose

  • bull22

@red yeah dude, the bulls need to sign james for rest of season, i like him handling the ball more so then watson. he has been turning it over too much.

  • Ldub

With Bynum down low, Lakers would be best suited to get a PF that can hit the mid range jumper. Bynum and Gasol matched up well in the post together because Pau is a good passer and the triangle. Now look at them in Browns offense. David West would fit, Zbo, Millsap or Jefferson..someone with those skill types. But I do agree with Drose…Pau would beast in the east because of his talents and it would only open up things for Drose to be..well…Drose!

  • golakeshow

this won’t happen rose is dreaming.

  • http://www.nba.com Red

Actually that’d be amazing having a decent passing pf with Noah who is also a good passer. That’d be scary if you ask me.

  • Stroshow

3 team deal with Milwaukee. Lakers get Deng and Jennings. Bulls get Pau and Stephen Jackson. Bucks get Boozer and maybe Ebanks and some picks. Seems to make sense for all of the teams.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

    Except Milwaukee

  • http://www.nba.com Red

And Bulls, we trade an allstar in Deng for a decent Gasol & aging Jackson and Lakers get Deng and Jenning wtf lol that’s an impossible trade.

  • http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/chicago-bulls-talk/2011 Diesel

This story has to be fabricated. Rose has had multiple opportunities to go to management and request they “go get” a player. If he didn’t do it for Lebron, Wade, or Howard, I don’t see why he’d go out on a limb for Gasol. Also, the media is constantly trying to get Rose to say he’d want to play with Player X and time after time, he’s backed his current teammates. He backed Keith Bogans, he backed Noah, and he backed Boozer when they were all part of trade rumors before. He’s constantly saying he’s good with his team as currently constructed. I don’t see why he’d do a complete 180 now.

  • http://www.slamonline.com melvin ely

co-sign Diesel, all I’ve heard from D-Rose anytime a trade rumor would come up regarding the bulls is exactly that. I really don’t see what Pau’s got over Lebron and Dwight for Rose to all of a sudden call for management to get him.

  • http://www.nba.com Red

Pau is a role player more so than a superstar & won’t mess up Rose being the star & most talked about player on the Bulls. Don’t think he wants anyone else being a superstar on his team. But I don’t think he minds stars joining.

  • Justin G.

I think Pau is looking like a role player because that’s more or less how they’re using him. I don’t think he’s being used correctly at all and that’s on Brown (although I don’t think he’s as bad of a coach as you all seem to think) and by association, Buss. I don’t get why that guy wants to go away from the Phil Jackson era. Jerry Krause had the same mentality for the Bulls. Why would you want to go away from something that brought championships? Brian Shaw was the clear choice to coach this team but that’s over with now.

  • Steve

I believe this is all ACTED OUT! Bryant knows Gasol is this teams chemistry major! The Magic aren’t going to get any better than Bynum period.! Come March we will all get to see Bryant-Gasol and Howard go at it as a team! Then play for The NBA Championship against the Heat in June! I see a sweet game 7! W The Lakers Winning It All!! Oh yeah!!
