Nick Young: Gilbert Arenas Got ‘That Kobe Treatment on His Knees’

When asked about his buddy and former teammate Gilbert Arenas, who has recently drawn interest from the Los Angeles Lakers, Nick Young says that Gil’s knees are in great shape these days (after supposedly undergoing similar treatment to Kobe Bryant.) From Truth About It: “After Monday’s Wizards-Bulls game, I spoke with Nick Young, a good friend of Arenas, about how his former teammate was doing and about his prospects of joining the Lakers. You said you talk to Gilbert just about every day. How is he doing? Is he just down in Orlando working out? ‘Yea, he’s been working out. He said he got the — I don’t know if I’m supposed to say this — but he got that Kobe treatment on his knees’ … This past June, Kobe Bryant underwent treatment on his knee in Germany. Orthokine Therapy, developed by German doctor Dr. Peter Wehling, also a former physician to Pope John Paul II, involves ‘centrifuging the patients blood and using the serum as an anti-inflammatory drug.’ Tracy McGrady reportedly introduced Wehling to Bryant, who in turn recommended the therapy to Alex Rodriguez of the New York Yankees. In addition to a clinic in Germany, Wehling is said to have a small outpost in Los Angeles. ‘Yea, yea… you could say it’s the Kobe System, but he said it feels great, his knees feel great, and he’s been working out. When I seen him last time, he looked like he was in shape. He lost a lot of weight.’ When did you last see him? ‘When we went to Orlando the last time we played [the Wizards played the Magic on Orlando on January 4], so he looked like he was in good shape.’ The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly interested in Arenas, have you talked to him about playing for both of you guys’ hometown team? ‘Oh yea, oh yea … most definitely. That’s a big thing for him. That’d be real big for the Lakers to add him to their team because they need a guard. They’re young… without [Derek] Fisher on the court – [Darius] Morris, I think — they’re real young at the guard spot.’ Any other teams that he might fit in with? ‘I really don’t know, I just heard really about the Lakers. For him to come back home, that part, I think that would calm him down. I think it’d be good.’”

Remember when Gil dropped 60 on the Lakers? Damn that seems like an eternity ago.

  • Cookie Monster

It helps to be making that Kobe money too.

Kobe to Agent 0: “You’re welcome!”

It’s strange that Arenas is still free agent if he is really healthy. Must be something behind the curtains. Goudelock is playing well right now, but Lakers must sign him, must make moves if they want to have options to play at least the second round.

could the lakers get nick young too- that way they can get another scorer once kobe takes a seat

nah hes wayy to much of a volume shooter

  • K9

If Lakers can get Gil, and if he can just drop atleast 14 ppg with like 5 assists, that’s more than good enough. Champs again.

I agree Pearl. I was shocked when Bibby got picked up and Gil didn’t. I want him to get one last shot at redeeming himself.

Good signing for the Lakers if his knees are OK. Kobe will keep him in line. He’s a good shooter, a distributor. He was a volume shooter in DC because he was looked at as ‘the man’ there, with the Lakers he would nicely fit a need and won’t be jacking it up as much.

Its CRAZY that nobody is even working him out. Something is up. HE has got to be asking for too much money, this is the only way.

  • robb

    Gil’s getting divorced?

    HIBACHIIIIII!!
seriously, ppl are not giving this guy a fair shake.

It’s really not that big a surprise that Gil’s not already on a team. Even if he is healthy.

He’s already getting paid. When he was amnestied, the Magic basically agreed to pay out his contract. Whether he plays or not, he’s getting his full salary. And if he plays, he doesn’t really get anything extra. He still gets the same amount.

So basically, the money he makes playing vs not playing is identical. At least regarding basketball salary.

He has the time to pick and choose who he wants to play for. And if an opportunity that he likes doesn’t present itself, he could sit the year out and not lose a penny.

So if he goes to the Lakers, it’s because he WANTS to go to the Lakers. Not because he needs a job.

You have to think that any GM that sees Gil’s medical records is going to think twice about signing him even for the vet minimum…

i hater the LAker but if they get him it will be nice , he need it , good luck Arenas

I doubt it’s just about his on the court performance that’s keeping teams away from him. I think he isn’t signed because his lockerroom and off-court issues. He and Iverson both have enough talent to play in the NBA (it at least a limited role), but both come with some risk that many GM’s may think is too great.

I think Gilbert got a bad deal in D.C. to begin with. He paid for the so called crime……(like no one in D.C. has guns…..hahahaha). If he is well and healthy, he needs to play again. He was my favorite player and I hate to see someone with talent not be able to use it……
We all need to put the past behind us with Arenas and wish him all the luck to start over and succeed……I wish he could come back to Washington, but that won’t happen. Good Luck Gilbert Arenas…..
