Rajon Rondo Suspended Two Games for Throwing Ball at Ref

Prior to the Boston Celtics’ loss in Dallas last night, Rajon Rondo learned that he’d been suspended two games for tossing a basketball at referee Sean Wright’s chest on Sunday night. Per the Boston Herald: “I am (disappointed) from the standpoint of the image of players in this league when you lose a guy,’ said the Celtics guard [Ray Allen]. ‘I didn’t even see it. I didn’t think it was out (of the ordinary), how he threw it to him. Just from the image point of view I hate to see stuff like that happen. We always talk about handling situations during games when it gets heated, and us being able to keep our cool.’ Said [head coach] Doc Rivers: ‘You’re always disappointed when that happens. You should never put yourself in front of the team. But the game is an emotional game. We can agree it was a pretty clear foul and a bad foul that wasn’t called. At the time we were getting our butts kicked and it’s a human game, and emotional game. I can guarantee you 35 seconds after it happened that Rondo wished he could take it back. That happens. He’s still young, and I hope we don’t forget that. We all do some messed up things in our lives, and unfortunately for Rondo, he does it in front of a lot of people and we don’t. That’s the big difference. We always tell our guys to think about the team if you can, but it’s hard. You could tell he lost his composure, because at halftime he was the one saying hey guys, let Doc work on the refs. You leave them alone. So clearly that (ball toss) was not intentional.’”

He drives the lane a lot and there will be times when the refs don’t call fouls. He’s costing his team by acting like that, although it was pretty funny when he zipped the ball at the ref.

The diva routine with this guy is getting old quick. There isn’t a coincidence the team was playing better without him. Albeit vs lesser teams, many were home games and the bench/KG were playing, but the cohesion was there. RR comes back and the team has no continuity, hmmmmmmm. Baby was the same way and got shipped outta town, RR’s talent has helped him avoid the same fate thus far…

the refs is lucky rondo can aim as well as he did . a little higher and the ref might choke on that whistle. Still my favorite pg.

So his suspension is the same as Kevin Love’s… Even though Kevin Love stepped on someone’s face, while Rondo tossed a ball at a guy’s chest and didn’t even hurt him. The NBA: Where being as sh!tty as the judicial system happens.

    Ted your logic is flawed.

You cannot equate an act towards an opponent with an act against an official. The referee/umpire must be treated with the ultimate in respect as he is the one in control and keeping the game from turning into street ball. Actually, they went soft on Rondo. He should have been out at least three games or the equivalent of a week. If he physically confronts a ref again he should be suspended for a year.
There must be zero tolerance of this kind of abuse towards an official.

Well, I seen the rerun and I have seen worst and nothing ever happened. the refs need to be separate from the league. and then there wouldn’t be the favortisum going on. Stuff gets overlooked because of whom the player is . and Ardre you off base .It is quite obvious you never played the game about elem level. Your out of bounds on comments and WRONG

Suspended for 2 games is a slap on the wrist for Rondo. Kyle Lowry threw the ball at a ref in a game during the lockout, and he had to do 100 hours of community service and take anger-management.

The act by RR was not meant to harm any one. And by all means stupid. two game suspenstion. NO T Right

I agree with Andre. Physical contact with an official is totally out of line, no matter how soft it is. You can’t equate a player to player altercation with a unprovoked attack on a ref.

@heals u how do u destroy ur point then try to make it?

  • BostonBaller

WOW. Boneheaded move by Double R..no two ways about it. The two games is fine but the nonsense of ship him out because he is this or that is funny. I do not equate his actions with Love’s (regardless of who it involves) Love’s actions were much more of a violation in my opinion. I understand the whole we have to respect authority aspect but I’m more into respecting people in general. IMO

Uh, if I remember correctly, Lowry went on a tirade and had a huge tantrum and THEN threw the rock at the ref. Not even close to what Rondo did.
I also don’t buy this “the official must be treated with the utmost respect” blah-blah crap. Obviously players shouldn’t physically contact them, but a year’s suspension? Gimme a break.

@1tail, trying to be objective. Those factors were major reasons why they ripped off a nice W streak without Rajon, but it ALSO can’t be denied that the team as whole has played better in his absence. If you watched their games you’d know exactly where I’m coming from…

IMO both Love and Rondo got off easy. Both should have been 4 games minimum

That why he is Rajon Rondo. Feisty can sometimes be uncoachable.
