Jason Kidd: Dallas Mavericks Getting No Respect from Refs

Following the Mavericks’ tough loss in OKC last night, virtually everyone in a Dallas uniform complained about a lack of whistles. According to Jason Kidd, the defending champs aren’t getting treated with respect by the referees. Per the Dallas Morning News: “Jason Kidd hit on perhaps the most cogent point of the night. He lamented how the Mavericks can’t seem to get the benefit of the whistles this season. ‘He didn’t foul him,’ Kidd said. ‘That was a bad call. Clean block. It’s been like that all year. We don’t get the benefit of the whistle. I don’t think we’re looked upon as defending champions. That’s a whole ‘nother story. Dirk, he should live at the line, if they would call it the way it’s supposed to. But he doesn’t. We’ve just got to clean up our end of game situations.’”

I hate when teams ‘expect’ to get whistles. Aggressive teams like OKC get whistles. Your team is old Jason. Deal with it.

True, but to be fair, a lot of calls did go against them last night.

^they do every other night, it pretty much evens out, except for when the refs r paid

OKC have been getting a lot of calls in favor of them this year. Look at the Portland game. A block was called goal tending and it sent the game into overtime, even though it was the wrong call. I think the NBA is giving OKC some extra help this season.

Yeah I agree,Williams had a block last night that was called goal tending. Nick Collison was guarding Dirk all night with his hands, and at the end of the game when Jet tried to take Perkins off the dribble Perk was using his hands. I agree with J Kidd, but the refs ain’t changing so they need to play tougher, and shutup period.

Dallas had more points in the paint and less jump shots than the Thunder which would imply they were more aggressive yet the free throw disparity was enormous. 33-10! That is clear evidence of a bias. Refs favor young teams who have a reputation of fast and aggressive. The Mavs have been dealing with that BS for years. There weas also two wrong goal tending calls last night plus one ridiculous call on a obvious clean block. Without a doubt the refs blew that game.

This was one of the things agreed upon with the new CBA. Defending champs get no calls and teams like OKC get biased calls. It’s just another way to achieve parity at the league level.

That’s because the Mavs were on the road. This season, out of the 30+ games I’ve seen, the refs have been more heavily favoring the home teams.

Its true , if u watch Mavericks games, u’d see this. Hopefully this is a non issue come playoff time at least..

I guess there trying to make up for all the extra calls they got in the finals. Its a proven fact refs reward aggressiveness, not getting enough calls? drive to the basket, its hard to get calls shooting fadeaways and jumpshots.

Yall are so stupid. Dirk has been getting the breaks from the refs for his ENTIRE CAREER. He’s the biggest actor in basketball. It’s about time him and his team caught the bad end of the calls.

  • Lan

It’s the NBA, get used to it. It’s been like this since it was formed.

  • Fitzy

@holy balled you’re trying to tell me dirk is a bigger flopped than varejao smh

if dallas isnt getting any respect then RAPTORS are probrobly invisible to the ref’s completely… in the last few games (especially the orlando one) they didnt get anything in the 4th… i hate it when refs arent consistant, if a player like kobe, dwayne wade or even paul pierce got the smallest wind on the wrist its a call, but when demar gets tackelled by dwight its all good.

I WISH derozan would take a shiver that loosens a tooth or five and shows him that the NBA is a man’s game. Dude could use an Oakley-sized wake up call. Beat the soft out of him.

Dirk is a bigger actor than Manu, Pierce, or Gasol?
