Jeremy Lin Ready to Accept a Reduced Role on the Knicks

Mike Woodson will scale down whatever is left of Linsanity, and Jeremy Lin says that he will find a way to adjust to a smaller role now that Mike D’Antoni is no longer in the picture. Can’t blame the guy for not sounding too enthusiastic about the whole thing. From the NY Post: “I love D’Antoni’s system, and it was perfect for me,’ Lin said. ‘But I’d never been in D’Antoni’s system until this year, so I’ve played in other systems before. It’s going back to what I was doing before.’ [...] ‘My point guards, we’ve got to be on the same page,’ Woodson said. ‘They got to be on the same page … They got to know what I want.’ At least publicly, Lin embraced the changes. ‘You’ve got to learn and sacrifice and be part of this team, and we’ll figure out what we’re gonna change again,’ he said. ‘It’s part of the process. … Someone might get hurt, someone might be playing well and roles will change again.’ Lin said he exchanged text messages with D’Antoni after he stepped down [Wednesday], and told his former coach how much he appreciated his help. ‘It was good,’ he said. ‘Just a lot of appreciation on my behalf. He said to just keep being aggressive, keep working hard, the [same] things he had been telling me.’ [...] ‘It’s going to be different for us,’ Amar’e Stoudemire said. ‘Coach Woodson has his offense and offensive schemes. We have to readjust to that. We are all receiving it well. We’re exciting about it. We can’t wait to play in the new offense. ‘ Lin was less enthusiastic. Lin said Woodson’s offense will be ‘challenging’ for him. ‘We’re going to use more post-ups,’ Lin said. ‘I don’t know what the shot distribution is going to be, but I think the way we get the shots will be different.’”

I wonder if this mean Baron Davis will become the starting PG. If so, it’s cool, both players are TO machines.

Knicks will live and die with the offensive/defensive play of Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudemire.

Jeremy Lin Harvard jersey sales go through the floor.

  • Yesse

Why not just trade him to a team where he can produce? He has some value on him and they can get a guy who is fit to do the assignment Lin does now.

  • RunNGun

    Lin will find the way.

  • kenbo

he’s aight but he’s not real

  • riggs

    He’s smart enough to adapt.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

He’s ready to accept whatever role he gets. Beats playing in the D-League and/or sitting on a bench all game in the NBA.

^^I was thinking the same thing^^ You’ve created enough interest that even if this season is a bust other teams will be checking for you in the offseason, which is more you’ve had your entire career.

  • Mike From Spain

Jeremy Lin is inexpensive, generates revenue, and is smart enough to adapt to a reduced role. Maybe his points will be less but more assists in the new system. Baron Davis is the only other true PG in the Knicks, and he is old and somewhat injury prone. So Jeremy Lin will eventually get his minutes. It makes sense for the Knicks to keep him.

I don’t know why people are acting like Lin will be nothing in this new offense. It’s a new offense–not a new team. Amare and Melo can’t do everything. Actually it’s bad to want them to do everything, because as we saw last season, they couldn’t win a damn thing like that.

  • startown

I would think he would accept any role a NBA team would give him, he was sleeping on a couch a few months ago

I actually prefer Baron coming off the bench and abusing those second units. Starting Lin doesn’t mean finishing with Lin.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

Exactly Ynot. Lin will know his role. :)

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

The Knicks can match any offer Lin can receive this summer as a free agent, so if a team really wants Lin, they’ll have to work with the Knicks on a trade. What is Lin worth to a franchise?

  • abaci

    500 billion

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

I’d love to flip Lin for D-Will. My god.

  • Ballgolfer

players still need to perform…whatever coaching system you have…melo and amare are too overrated…

  • Crl

Different coach, different philosophy. Like previous posts, Woodson can start Baron with Carmelo and Stat. JLin can run the second unit with Fields, Novak, Shump with upbeat tempo during Linsanity.

I believe the hotter player should be out on the floor longer. You need to earn your time every game. JLin has earn that time.

With that said, It was jLin who brings new fans and make old fans interested in watching the Knicks. I hope the Coach Woodson and management remember that.

Actually, this may be a blessing in disguise for Lin. When he was running the team, the Knicks went 8-1, I believe. Lin may have had problems playing at that level for long, not with teams actually focusing on him.

Now his coach/mentor is gone and the team is focusing on other players. Lin gets to earn some NBA experience (remember that he has only been playing in NBA games for a few weeks) without the burden of expectations, which is a huge luxury today. If the team doesn’t win, well, nobody will be looking at Lin, that’s for sure.

I’m a Bulls fan and I’m glad the Bulls didn’t get Melo a year ago….J lin is the real deal! NY is dumb if they don’t ride with the young fella from Harvard. The youngin brought excitement and winning basketball. What more does a team want? Melo and Stat are names. They are less productive with these guys in the lineup. That even sounds weird while I’m typing. Amare WAS a BEAST before. That was before…Give Lin the rock and let the Knicks be his team…Melo and Stat for D Howard…Oops trade deadline just ended. If they don’t play D, they don’t win!!!At all.

Lin your job on the court will be what you were supposed to be doing in the first place and that is to get the ball to Melo, Amare and Chandler and setyour teammates up not worry about your own shots. They have JR Smith for that

  • http://www.nba.com JB

Lin will do what it takes to win. If that means take charge, then so be it.

  • http://slamonline.com The Philosopher

    Prediction:
The Knicks WILL make the Playoffs.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

Prediction Knicks blow the Pacers out tonight. Granger won’t even hit double digits. The game will be a laugher as the 3rd quarter draws to a close. Knicks win big.

  • MarcW

And B.Davis just pulled a hamstring. As long as Lin focuses on his assists vs turnovers, the other numbers won’t matter. Knicks win; everybody on the team wins. He should be fine.

  • http://nba.com KJ

I don’t get why people are saying that they’re losing because Melo came back. They’re losing because they have a WAY harder schedule when Melo came back.

  • Justin G.

KJ, it’s not just the harder schedule which of course was a factor but in the way they were losing. They went back to the way they were playing before Melo’s injury which had already proven to be unsuccessful.

PLAYERS didn’t like old system. PLAYERS lost games. old system gone. PLAYERS’re excited and can’t wait for new system. PLAYERS won immediately after D’Antoni’s departure. PLAYERS
