Lamar Odom Receives First Career DNP-CD

The struggling Odom was benched for first time in his 13-year career in the Mavs’ 104-87 loss to the Spurs Friday night. ESPN has the details: “The worst season of Lamar Odom’s 13-year NBA career reached yet another new low for the second time this week Friday night. [...] It is the first time Odom, a key part of two Lakers title teams and the Sixth Man of the Year last season, can remember not playing in a game because of a coach’s decision. Coach Rick Carlisle said he informed Odom before the game of his plan to “look at a different rotation.” [...] Odom, who is averaging career lows in almost every category, answered questions about his benching with a broader perspective. ‘Expect the unexpected as far as life’s concerned,’ Odom said. ‘I’ve been through a lot. It’s not too much I haven’t seen. So I understand it. I’m a team guy. Whatever. He’s the coach.’”

Is this his final year on his contract?

    don’t know, if not, amnesty

Man this guy is shattered about being traded

Mark is obviously no dummy and in Rick we trust but their stubbornness in not ending this Odom experiment when they could (post all-star break) will be the downfall of this year’s playoff run. He CLEARLY is in no shape to play ball right now for any team. He says all the right things but the proof is in the ball and he ain’t producing despite anything wifey tweets to the contrary. And don’t discount the importance of championship team morale – Jet basically said as much weeks ago this team is no championship contender as currently constructed, injuries or not. Mitch ain’t no dummy either; he ain’t giving away a sixth man for nothing, c’mon! Clearly he saw this all playing out the way it has… Should have cut him loose when you had the chance cubes. Silver lining Mavs fans there’s always the d-will experiment next season

Odom was coming off his best season as a pro…he accepted coming off the bench with the Lakers but the Mavs? This is not the same team that won the championship. They have different personel. i think Odom has plenty left in the tank. He’s just not feeling the Mavs. He lost to them last year and probably wanted some type of get back! I think his ego was bruised. A few years ago, the Lakers re-signed Odom at a discounted price. So he felt betrayed and needed time to cool off. Maybe it was the reality show and the distraction the thought it created. I didn’t think it affected his play one bit. He had to grow up fast but he’s still inmature in some area’s. He has trust issues and is a very loyal person. Although he’s looking suspect right now, he’ll bounce back next year.

Odom should sign with Miami as FA in summer

  • Kilo

HE SHOULD HAVE CHECKED HIS AGENT AND ALL THIS WOULDNT HAVE HAPPENED.

  • Jer Dawg

Sabotage by Odom. He’s eyeing return to LA at all cost. He must like the high tax bracket out here.

  • markorsomething

    Odom is a little pu$$y @$$ 3itch with a pu$$y @$$ d1ck.

  • shutup

His play has been terrible as of late, but dude loved his team, whats wrong with that? I feel bad for him, I bet he wanted to ride out his career in LA. Hopefully he can turn things around and get back to playing up to his potential.

  • justme

@Jer Dawg- definitely believe its sabotage as well. Lamar Kardashian wants back to LA so he can focus on his “celebrity” status. Paps don’t hang out in Dallas like they do in LA.

I hate saying this but the Lakers could’ve been more sensative with Odom after the trade was canceleed…give him time to fully understand what the Lakers did wasn’t personal. Maybe some encouraging words from Kobe (yeah right). But with a shortened season without Bynum (suspension) maybe the Lakers figured they didn’t need him (they might be right). He should’ve retired a Laker b/c that’s where he had his best years and he was far from being washed up. Think about this…back when the Celtics had the original big 3 of Bird McHale And Parish. They stayed loyal to them instead of shipping them out. They almost went 20 years without winning another championship. Give the Lakers GM some credit for trying to tweak the roster for another shot at a championship. Wouldn’t it be funny if they won it all this year and signed Odom next season. Odom was a difficult match up for most teams b/c what he brought to the table for the Lakers…he’s much better than most players on the Mavericks squad. I’d be pissed too coming off the bench for Marion or Carter. To me, Odom to the Mavericks wasn’t a good look from the rip.

As much as it doesn’t seem like it, I think the Lakers are missing Odom more than Odom is missing the Lakers. We all know this guy has a lot left in the tank, he may arguably be coming off of his best season yet. Next year he should be back to his old ways. As for the Lakers, their bench will still be thin without any reliable players.

  • http://Roosterteeth.com Caboose

I have no problem placing the entirety of the blame squarely on Odom’s shoulders. Dude had received the entire support of the Mavs’ staff but he instead has opted to wallow in his self-generated misery. I felt sympathy for his painful events in his life, but he has had all the support his team and family could offer and still just laments his situation. You got traded. To a GOOD team. Move on. The first bit of the season, I understood. But now? Stop your crying and fulfill the contract that pays you millions to play. Wake up.

  • Da-Meat-Hook

Co-sign Caboose. Lamar needs to be a professional about this. You went from playing alongside Wade, to Kobe, to Dirk. From a basketball standpoint, things can be much, MUCH worse. Besides, you’re married to Brutus “The Barber” Beefcake, coming off of the bench for the defending champs should be the last of your worries.

  • Robin

if something is serious going on in his life that is bothering him other than kardashian and the fact that he is not in LA anymore then i got one word to say : p*ssy!

  • Blasphemy

“Brutus “The Barber” Beefcake” had me seriously laughing out loud. Da-Meat-Hook for the win.

  • Golakeshow

Lamar sucks. He has just been Named to my 2012 NBA Dumb@$$ list. It lists the biggest dumb@$$es of the year. It goes like this, Dwight Howard, Carmelo anthony, Lamar Odom, Derek Fisher, Kevin Garnett, Glen Davis, Paul Pierce, Rajon Rondo, Ray Allen, Vince Carter, Chris Paul, Dirk Nowitzki, Jeremy Lin, Jason Terry, Gilbert Arenas, and Kwame Brown. That was in no particular order. Go Lakers!

  • Drig

@Dee……Kobe’s been the most vocal guy outside of Dallas roster in defending and supporting Odom. Just a doubt, can Dallas trade Odom and fillers for Dwight in the off-season, let Magic exercise the team option and nab DWill in the FA????

  • http://www.yahoo.com Mark Daniel

he should go back to the Lakers.. . .he’s a big help in their campaign, he can still contribute much with them.

  • rollkilla

I hope yall know lamar requested to be traded after he heard about the failed trade in preseason. he didnt even show up to the lakers camp because he no longer wanted to play for them. good luck trying to get back with the lakers now, ever….

  • zero

he is not actin like a pro

  • Fat Lever

That Brutus the barber beefcake line is in the running for line of the year, sponsored by Charlie sheen. Nice one, meat hook.

  • RunNGun

Overrated… see what happens when you leave the LAKERS?

  • Theresa

His focus is not so much on basketball anymore, but showing the world he is married to a moron and he is becoming one too. What next Lamar showing himself taking a dump. Khloe already did the tampon thing, (Which was disgusting) You asked for it Lamar when you married into that family. Kiss your basketball career goodbye.
