Mike Brown: Kobe Bryant Deserves Serious MVP Consideration

The NBA’s MVP Award is believed by many to be a two-man race this season between LeBron James and Kevin Durant, but Lakers’ head coach Mike Brown is already on the campaign trail for his own superstar. From the Daily News: “Yes, he definitely should be involved in the MVP talks,’ Brown said. ‘I think it’s hilarious that he’s not. … Everybody is talking about how he’s 85 years old or whatever they’re saying, and he’s leading the league in scoring. He’s efficient. He’s got his team in a good position. I truly believe this team, especially with a guy like that, can be dangerous come playoff time. There’s no doubt in my mind that Kobe Bryant should be mentioned in the MVP talk. I’m baffled.’ [...] ‘My TV was on ESPN when I was heading out (to go to the game) and I heard somebody say Kevin Love because he has his team at .500,’ Brown said. ‘Now Kevin Love is a very good basketball player and he’s putting up extraordinary numbers. But if you’re going to say Kevin Love is in the top five (MVP candidates), then Kobe Bryant needs to be in the top two.’ [...] Why vote for Bryant in 2012? ‘Who plays with the injuries he’s played with?’ Brown said. ‘Who puts up the numbers he puts up? Who goes through all the stuff with the amount of changes that have happened to his team in this shortened season? Nobody.’”

Kobe has been my fave player forever but, tha MVP is based off popularity now, so i dont see him winning it although he deserves it

Does he deserve consideration? Of course. I don’t know how a guy averaging 28/6/5 (if rounded up) don’t deserve consideration. But he doesn’t deserve to win, he doesn’t dominate the game night in and night out as much as KD or Lebron.

who cares he plays with injury? And c’mon Mike Brown, there are other players playing with injuries, and i never heard a word from them. as if that gives Kobe some bonus. LMFAO.

  • Matt Park

If Lebron does not win the MVP this season, I am going to RAGE!!!!! Not really, but no one should win it over Lebron.

Kobe planted “the seed” in Mike Brown

  • AQWORD

^^^ Yeah the Bad Seed. Washington just tore the Lakes a new one with team play, while Kobe missed 30 shots & he still gets props? Gtfo Mike B & Clean yourself up coz you got mamba seed on your chin. I dont see him being a Lakers coach for long.

You really think they’re going to fire Brown after only one year with a not so good Lakers team in a lockout shortened season? Really? If that’s the case then there are a lot of coaches who need to be weary of their jobs with only a one year try to get it done

Cosign the Fury. TP should be #3 followed by Kobe then Rose, Parker has to be the most underrated PG of this era, I bet you ask a casual fan to name the top ten pg’s in the game he’s left off 75% of their lists, he’s probably the most decorated PG in the game right now, cant think of one with more hardware still playing

    Derek Fisher. Hahahaha

  • will

Kobe has pretty much been the glue of the Lakers this year. he has battle through injury all year and is leading all scoring. seriously, lakers are nothing without kobe.

    LAKERS NATION

  • Justin G.

I think Kobe should be around 3rd/4th in the voting, depending on whether Parker can keep up what he’s been doing until the end of the year. It doesn’t matter though because either one of them is going to finish a very distant third to Lebron and Durant (yes in that order) but Kobe definitely deserves to be in the discussion at least

  • http://www.yahoo.com The Fury

Well if the Spurs can get the #1 seed in the West, Parker will get ahead of Durant. But of course, he’s sooo underrated it won’t happen. Pfffttt….

I dont care about regular season mvp anymore, when’s the last time the mvp led their team to a championship? Shaq with the lakers?

Fisher has more championships but tony parker has a finals mvp, plus fisher has never been an allstar. Fisher has also never been the best or second best player on his team.

shutup, you do know I was being sarcastic right?

I do, but Fisher and Nash are the only ones who come close and then you have Kidd, Rose and Rondo but none of them are even close.
