Volvo Cars, Jeremy Lin Announce Marketing Deal

Who said Linsanity is defunct? Jeremy Lin, the New Yorks Knicks‘ newfound point guard, has inked a marketing deal with the U.S. arm of Swedish car brand Volvo. The Wall Street Journal has the details: “Volvo Cars of North America, Volvo’s sales unit based in Rockleigh, N.J., sent out invitations to a press conference in New York to ‘announce a dynamic marketing partnership with Jeremy Lin, the popular New York Knicks point guard.’ The deal would leverage ‘the Swedish car maker’s sports heritage,’ and Mr. Lin would ‘help establish the brand with younger and performance-minded customers,’ the invitation said. The press conference is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. Monday New York time, according to the invite. It would be one of the first major corporate deals for the 23-year-old New York Knick, who ascended from basketball benchdom to stardom earlier this year. Mr. Lin, the U.S.-born son of Taiwanese immigrants, has captivated Chinese basketball fans, hungry for a hero since the retirement of former Houston Rockets star Yao Ming. Mr. Lin has an agreement with Nike Inc. reached when he was a rookie that the shoe maker is moving to tap, with plans for a Lin-themed shoe. It was still unclear exactly what the value would be of the deal or what exact terms it would involve, but the invitation to the press conference noted that Mr. Lin is expected to help Volvo’s marketing efforts in several international markets. Previously, people familiar with the matter had said that the deal would cover the greater China market.”

Good for him and good for Volvo, they still got this soccer mom immage in the US while they make very good cars.

  • abaci

Boring and safe, just like a volvo

Good for Lin. Kind of a wack car though. Sidenote: I wonder how long before the whole “Asians are bad drivers” comments begin to appear. Mine doesn’t count btw.

Jonas Jerebko would have made a better Volvo partner than Lin. Lin would make a good Smart Car sponser.
Efficient, smart, and only generates interest when fuel prices go up.

he’s probably gonna be a spokesperson for the v60.

Speaking as a Swede, I like this.

Although, Volvo was sold by Ford to the Chinese… (Main factory still in Sweden, though.)

@abaci: i think “boring and safe” is the opposite of Lin, as evidence by his points and turnovers.

  • LA Huey

Jeremy Lin has a higher turnover rate than all every Volvo combined. Cheap shots aside, go get your paper.

  • joe

he deserves it. he’s a team player, not a ball hog like kobe, james and the like. he is the face of the NBA.
king? james. is the king of his ego, nothing more

  • Knickswin

Great news for Jeremy Lin. Those who are jealous of your success with narrow minded personality will cry. They hate your talents and influence. You are always the role model for young people.

    ^ LOL nice.

2013 dunk contest will feature Jeremy Lin who will “conveniently” make the final round so he can jump over the hood of a Volvo for a “spontaneous” commercial.

Co-sign Rich. I’d rather a Volvo than a corny Kia.

  • ClydeSays

Get that paper, Jeremy. The Knicks made 150 million off you in February. Hope you get a fat contract elsewhere in the offseason…

    LOL at Clyde!

@ joe You must not have watched the 4th Quarter in the last game against the Pacers when Lin wouldn’t pass the ball and almost let Indiana get back in the game. The camera even caught Mike Woodson saying pass the F*cking ball! After Lin dribbled out the whole shot clock and almost turn the ball over. Anyone else see that?

  • josephbbl

@ bigdoggchad – wow, you focusing on one possession in one game? Picking nits. You jealous bro?

  • bigdoggchad

Jealous of? It was the whole 4th quarter not one possession.
