Mike D’Antoni Resigns as New York Knicks Coach

Well, wow. Amidst a new wave of Melodrama, Yahoo!‘s Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting that Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni has resigned. Crazy. Here’s more: “Mike D’Antoni has resigned as coach of the New York Knicks, league sources told Yahoo! Sports. D’Antoni and Knicks owner James Dolan agreed on Wednesday to end his three-plus-years run as Knicks coach, a source said. “It was a mutual decision to no longer coach the Knicks … conflicting visions of the club’s future,” the source said. … Assistant Mike Woodson, who formerly coached the Atlanta Hawks, will take over as the interim coach.”

    Knicks still suck.

Woodson being a “defensive” coach is funny too me. Where is the proof of that?

I don’t know about a defensive coach but Woodson was a great assistant under Larry Brown in Detroit in ’04

is mike woodson that bad?? He had that hawks team looking good a few years back.

@Fat- I think it’s more accurate to say: somewhere in Russia, Prokhorov blurts “Holy crap, I forgot I bought an NBA team!”

@ IAMORANGE: …now why in the world would Toronto let go of a guy who has proven to get the most of his players in coach casey, for Mik D’aintoni? lol.

I believe an injury right now for Lin would be a blessing in disguise @nbk

You mean to preserve his reputation? Instead of watching him fail? You might be right

Now not only is Mike D a loser he is also a quitter. This ain’t west Virginia you in the big leagues boy! NBA teams need coaches who can whip everyone into shape, not just one under paid Asian Harvard grad.

Another casualty of this lockout season. Imagine trying too work a player as complex as melo into an offense and make it work well without training camp. If they waited maybe till next year maybe they could’ve worked it out

  • b-nEWT

    send Melo to the D-league

I’ve always been told as a fan of the NBA defense wins tiltes and i beleive this just look at my Suns. Championships – none.

@Rainman So are you telling me there is a chance? @nbk Knicks 121 Blazers 79. That’s a 42 point win to end a 6 game losing streak. The first game without Mike D’Antoni. Just sayin’.

  • Startown

Bench lit it up against blazers!

  • roybot

@Orange Knicks’ win tonight was more Blazers than it was the Knicks. We gave up at least 8 wide-open 3-pointers to two of the streakiest shooters in Novak and J.R. Blazers are more dysfunctional than the Knicks, yes I said it.

  • LA Huey

Blazers have been bending over for the last dozen games. Don’t get too excited.

It was never Melo’s fault. Can someone make a website with that name? Lol.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

    So stupid.

  • burnt_chicken

I’m with Orange. I think D’Antoni would make a GREAT assistant to Casey.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

They played the offense they knew tonight. Just sayin.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

How can you really think Woodson put in something new in less than 12 hours? Not too insult your intelligence or anything but that is pretty stupid. They pretty much just got a big monkey off their back. The team has been playing divided since Melo got back. And the Blazers have been falling apart for half a month. One team relieved and refreshed, one team down in the dumps. Not too say D’Antoni wasn’t a big part of the problem (unable to control Melo, in any sense of the word), because he was, but it was HIS offense that won by 40 tonight. Not Mike Woodson’s iso offense. He probably had different goals on the white board in the locker room, and his speech had a different focus. Other then that, what you saw was a combination of the Knicks playing cohesively in what Mike D already had in place & the Blazers being horrid.

good riddens….. the Knicks are not the suns

cosign nbk…Tonight’s game had nothing to do with any coaching changes whatsoever. It’s not uncommon for a team to come out in this fashion wanting to prove (especially Melo who tied a season high in assists) that they weren’t the problem. Unfortunately, it won’t last with this cast because they’re not going to change their nature. Melo is an iso player and the lack of ball movement is definitely going to hurt Lin’s game. It’s unfortunate that the front office still somehow thinks Melo isn’t a big part of the problem and weren’t open at all to trade possibilities.

    People in NY hated him

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

^ Wow, look at these two… Love them though. At least they’re consistent with their hatred for the Knicks. Maybe they’ll watch the next game instead of just looking at the boxscore! The truth is fellas, Mike Woodson is running the offense through “Iso Melo.” Swallow the truth baby.

    I did watch the game.
