Wizards Trade Young, McGee for Nene

The Clippers have traded for Nick Young as part of a three-way deal, a source tells Yahoo. Washington is also sending JaVale McGee and Ronny Turiaf to Denver and, in return, will acquire Nene, Brian Cook and a Draft pick. According to the Washington Post, Nick Young has to sacrifice his Bird rights, but will likely approve of playing in Lob City: “As part of three-team deal, Nene goes to the Wizards, JaVale McGee to Denver and Nick Young to Clippers, sources tell Y! Sports.”

not sure how this makes sense for the nuggets. are mcgee or turiaf’s contracts expiring?

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

As much as y’all don’t like McGee dude blocks more shots and gets more rebounds then Nene ALREADY. And the Nuggets biggest problem is defending the paint and rebounding.

    What are Bird’s rights again?

  • Niio

WOW! Definitely didn’t see this coming. I feel bad for Nene.

Good move for Wizards to get rid of 2 knuckleheads (IMO) and get back a more mature player that won’t give John Wall nightmares about playing with.

  • Jerome

Good move by the Nugs … Nene is injury prone. McGee will make the most of this of the three involved.

must agree with nbk. As foulish as mcgee sometimes plays. He still got more upside then nene hope he has a better time in denver.

  • Lorenzovanmatterhorn

Mcgee is the ultimative two way highlight machine.
He produces the craziest basketball moments in a positive and negative way.
    0 % basketball iq – 100 % action

Nene is a good player but way to expensive.
But im sure he ll be a good fit in dc.

  • ash

I think McGee and Young will mature on a winning team. Nene will help Washington in future with Wall. Suprising but good enough trade.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

I can’t believe the Nuggets traded the athletic Nene Hilario.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

I can’t believe the Nuggets traded the athletic Nene Hilario.

  • Holiday

Lol, really? People can’t believe the Nuggets gave up Nene who has had injury problems and seemingly reached his potential, for a younger, longer, athletic Mcgee that could have great upside?

John Wall now has a teammate with an average or above average basketball iq? Im about to play 2K right now. (waited for this moment for to long)

  • AQWORD

I’m with Holiday on this one. Javale Will be tight in Denver.

  • r2j

A WTF trade. Denver is going nowhere.

  • Mike from Spain

Who is more athletic, Javale McGee or Nene?

  • http://Www.achtamsterdam.nl Phil

Lawson, afflalo, Galinari, Farried and McGee are a verry nice young athletic team. Perfect for George Karl…
Miller,Fernandez, Harrington, Birdman…good veterans., i think they can make the second round this year atleast.
What is their status concerning draft pick the next two years? Anybody know?

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

Phil, who are they beating to get to the second round? Nuggets are going nowhere in the playoffs if they make the playoffs.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

Mike from Spain, ask IAMORANGE. He is the resident “athlete” expert. IMO though, McGee today and going forward is the much better athlete. At Nene’s peak he woulda had something to say about that though.

  • http://Www.achtamsterdam.nl Phil

What’s the playoff picture look like…the wolves are out because of rubio. The mavs… I don’t know about man, i’m waiting for them to play consistant…it’s not really happening. The thunder and the Lakers would be though, but i think they match up well with the Spurs, and although i really like the Grizzlies..we don’t know what zbo will look like, and without him, do you think they are much better then the nugs? Don’t forget…rhey had a lot of injuries and were really playing well earlier.

  • Jose

How the f*** do you trade Nene!?

  • http://hoopshype.com .david

Weird decision by Denver. But I think it means that they’ve had second thoughts since re-signing Nene in the offseason. $68,000,000 and 5 years for a 30 year old center or the option to pay $3,500,000 next year for a 24 year old center.

I’m a fan of Nene – and not all that hopeful for McGee’s development – but it’s tough to look at the contracts and not be tempted to make that trade.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

McGee is an expiring deal. The Nuggets unloaded a bad contract for young cheap talent. Buyer’s remorse.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Nene is giving you fewer boards and blocks and only two more points for $64 million.
I said he wasn’t worth that money this summer. They looked at him and realized it wasn’t going to get better.
As for the athlete thing, people can believe what they want. If you can’t put together a decent logical argument I am not going to waste time discussing stuff with you. We don’t have to agree but I am not wasting my time on foolishness anymore.

  • Tylerk

Allenp is right. also what some of you guys might not know is they also made this deal to free up salary space for Wilson Chandler who they plan on signing within the next few days. So really the trade looks like this:

    To washington:

    Nene

    To Denver:

    Javale McGee
    Wilson Chandler
    2nd round pick

Seems like a good choice to me.

  • robb

    The Nuggets just got dumber

  • angus

herky jerky in lob city lovin it!

  • Lucas

what happens to Nene’s contract with Denver? does he still get his salary for the 5 years or does Washington buy out the contract?

Im never sure what happens when there is a trade like this

  • theDankerNuggets

god d*mnit, at least we didn’t get the chucker that is Nick Young too, i was pretty worried there for a second

  • Paul H

I know that Nene wiped the floor with his draft class during workouts. Sprints, Vert even BMI and that draft had a 19 year old Amare. Nene was ridiculously athletic at his peak.

  • http://Www.achtamsterdam.nl Phil

    He’s past his peak imo.

  • http://Www.achtamsterdam.nl Phil

Lakeshow…i forgot the clippers. It seems the top five out west are: thunder, lakers, spurs, grizzlies, clippers. But after that…i like the nugs. Especially going forward, the lakers and spurs are as good as done after next year…i like their potential.

  • http://www.andywhitby.com Andy Whitby

Think the nuggets were playing 2k and proposed a trade for the hell of it, then when the other team agree you have to wish you hadn’t

  • Justin G.

Sorry Allen but nobody believes that. You’re going to see someone say something stupid and chime in. It’s like nbk and shutup…they just can’t help themselves and neither can you. :-)

  • http://www.slamonline.com Max

    I like Mcgee in Denver.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

LOL LakeShow! I’m leaning towards Nene at his “peak” when healthy being a tad more athletic than McGee.

  • aj

nene didnt want out. nuggets want him out and regret his big ass contract
