Wizards Trade Young, McGee for Nene

The Clippers have traded for Nick Young as part of a three-way deal, a source tells Yahoo. Washington is also sending JaVale McGee and Ronny Turiaf to Denver and, in return, will acquire Nene, Brian Cook and a Draft pick. According to the Washington Post, Nick Young has to sacrifice his Bird rights, but will likely approve of playing in Lob City: “As part of three-team deal, Nene goes to the Wizards, JaVale McGee to Denver and Nick Young to Clippers, sources tell Y! Sports.”

  • abaci

i gotta say WHAT??? one more time

  • AJ

    Bum & Bummer

  • LA Huey

This is the most fun a trading deadline has ever been for me. Can’t believe DC didn’t make sure to unload Blatche. Still, this must make John Wall happy. Nene’s probably peeved.

  • el_larsen

    mcgee and george karl !
it will be very very fun haha

  • http://nba.com/bulls The Babe

Why would you ever trade Nene for Mcgee? a theory is Nene wanted out but I dont see why unless it was George Karl

  • Dungeon Family

I feel sorry for George Karl

  • bnets

Kenneth Farried is the future star for the Nuggets now

  • IamYOU

nene, nuggets will miss you.. mcgee.. washington won’t.

  • abaci

If Nene wanted out why did he re-sign with denver?

  • iLL-P

John Wall & Nene, I love that! Good to see the Wizards rebuilding in the right direction.

  • el_larsen

so the clippers get nick young For brian cook and a late first round pick?
    not bad

  • el_larsen

wow the blazers just fired mcmillan!

  • BoWeezy24

Nuggets Are Going To Be Dangerous!!! Or No? Hahaha

  • http://idunkonthem.blogspot.com albie1kenobi

this is a shocker. i thought nene was playing well and like to be in denver?

  • jayrose

wow really surprised about nene getting traded

  • IamYOU

@el_larsen reading that comment, I think stan van gundy is next.

  • BoWeezy24

Mike D’antoni Will Sign With The Blazers!!! JK JK Haha

  • T-Money

allen will be happy but i don’t like this move for clips at all! they’re already terrible defensively. and nick young back home? that sounds like trouble for a follower like him.

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

The nuggets are out of their damn minds. If y’all think McGee excelled in the art of stupidity, just wait until that “mile high” air gets a hold of him.

  • MDubb3

Nick young going back to his hometown

  • http://www.slamonline.com Red

WTF SLAM why can’t I post.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

George Karl will reign Javale in. This trade works for everyone.

  • Otis

Just adding my voice to the chorus of WTF????s here. There must have been something going on behind the scenes in Denver – this deal makes no sense for pretty much anyone (except the Wiz, obviously)

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

D’Antoni should replace VDN. The Clippers have the perfect SSOL roster.

  • Otis

@nbk – d’you think he will, though? McGee’s a great talent, but he plays as dumb as a box of hammers, and Karl has an almighty task on his hands trying to change that…

  • el_larsen

    lol @jtaylor
@tmoney i hope chris paul will tutorate him
but what the clips really need is to fire vinny del negro in the offseason and to ink nate mcmillan

  • http://slamonline.com/ Abe Schwadron

Praise the lord. I don’t even care about Nene, fine, we’ll take him. Cool. But thank god, no more Javale/DC jokes. No words can describe….

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

Seriously though nbk. D’Antoni would make them win 65 games a year with the line up they have. Would they win a chip? Prolly not.

  • Heals

^^^People our man is DEAD serious, I don’t even wanna bring up that ya’ll still have Blat, naw , not even going to do it. Enjoy it DC fans…

  • el_larsen

wow DC fans really hate javale!!

  • http://www.twitter.com/_dfrance dfrance21

I wonder if Allenp thinks this is the move that will allow Javale McGee to flourish.

  • Waggle

    Wow. Just wow.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

John Wall and D’Antoni would be AWESOME. Make it happen!

  • http://www.waihak.blogspot.com Tariq

  • Paul H

Maybe George Karl can whip Mc Gees talent and potential Into shape. Kid just needs a bit of direction. Huge move for a faltering Clippers team. OKC Has to be worried cause the Clips, Lakers and the Spurs all got a LOT better today.

  • Waggle

I don’t think nick is gonna get much playing time on clippers, they have a lot of talent already./

  • Paul H

Young will start. If he can provide 15 a game behind Blake and Paul this Is a fantastic move for the Clips.

  • http://nyill.wordpress.com/ O

D’Antoni is gonna turn Wall and Nene into annual all-stars…

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

nbk, I doubt George Karl at this stage in his career has the time and patience needed to deal with a knucklehead.

  • http://www.slamonline.com house

Nene for McGee? There is no effing way that trade makes any sense. McGee is a damned sneaker wearing trainwreck, can he turn it around? Yes anyone has the potential to, doesn’t mean he will.

  • http://www.slamonline.com house

Anyone got any info on any Bull’s moves? Would love to see Rip shipped for a solid 2.

  • Mike from Spain

I’d love d’antoni to work wonders with the wizards, and that they thrash the knicks when they meet next.

  • .david

not sure how this makes sense for the nuggets. are mcgee or turiaf’s contracts expiring?

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

As much as y’all don’t like McGee dude blocks more shots and gets more rebounds then Nene ALREADY. And the Nuggets biggest problem is defending the paint and rebounding.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

    ^Co-Signature applied^

  • Niio

    What are Bird’s rights again?

  • Niio

WOW! Definitely didn’t see this coming. I feel bad for Nene.

  • http://www.blogspot.com LLC#12

Good move for Wizards to get rid of 2 knuckleheads (IMO) and get back a more mature player that won’t give John Wall nightmares about playing with.

  • Jerome

Good move by the Nugs … Nene is injury prone. McGee will make the most of this of the three involved.

  • Rik Smits Mullet

must agree with nbk. As foulish as mcgee sometimes plays. He still got more upside then nene hope he has a better time in denver.

  • Lorenzovanmatterhorn

Mcgee is the ultimative two way highlight machine.
He produces the craziest basketball moments in a positive and negative way.
    0 % basketball iq – 100 % action

Nene is a good player but way to expensive.
But im sure he ll be a good fit in dc.

  • ash

I think McGee and Young will mature on a winning team. Nene will help Washington in future with Wall. Suprising but good enough trade.

I can’t believe the Nuggets traded the athletic Nene Hilario.

I can’t believe the Nuggets traded the athletic Nene Hilario.

  • Holiday

Lol, really? People can’t believe the Nuggets gave up Nene who has had injury problems and seemingly reached his potential, for a younger, longer, athletic Mcgee that could have great upside?

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=542782613 The White Steve Smith

John Wall now has a teammate with an average or above average basketball iq? Im about to play 2K right now. (waited for this moment for to long)

I’m with Holiday on this one. Javale Will be tight in Denver.

  • r2j

A WTF trade. Denver is going nowhere.

  • Mike from Spain

Who is more athletic, Javale McGee or Nene?

  • http://Www.achtamsterdam.nl Phil

Lawson, afflalo, Galinari, Farried and McGee are a verry nice young athletic team. Perfect for George Karl…
Miller,Fernandez, Harrington, Birdman…good veterans., i think they can make the second round this year atleast.
What is their status concerning draft pick the next two years? Anybody know?

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

Phil, who are they beating to get to the second round? Nuggets are going nowhere in the playoffs if they make the playoffs.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

Mike from Spain, ask IAMORANGE. He is the resident “athlete” expert. IMO though, McGee today and going forward is the much better athlete. At Nene’s peak he woulda had something to say about that though.

  • http://Www.achtamsterdam.nl Phil

What’s the playoff picture look like…the wolves are out because of rubio. The mavs… I don’t know about man, i’m waiting for them to play consistant…it’s not really happening. The thunder and the Lakers would be though, but i think they match up well with the Spurs, and although i really like the Grizzlies..we don’t know what zbo will look like, and without him, do you think they are much better then the nugs? Don’t forget…rhey had a lot of injuries and were really playing well earlier.

  • Jose

How the f*** do you trade Nene!?

  • http://hoopshype.com .david

Weird decision by Denver. But I think it means that they’ve had second thoughts since re-signing Nene in the offseason. $68,000,000 and 5 years for a 30 year old center or the option to pay $3,500,000 next year for a 24 year old center.

I’m a fan of Nene – and not all that hopeful for McGee’s development – but it’s tough to look at the contracts and not be tempted to make that trade.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

McGee is an expiring deal. The Nuggets unloaded a bad contract for young cheap talent. Buyer’s remorse.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Nene is giving you fewer boards and blocks and only two more points for $64 million.
I said he wasn’t worth that money this summer. They looked at him and realized it wasn’t going to get better.
As for the athlete thing, people can believe what they want. If you can’t put together a decent logical argument I am not going to waste time discussing stuff with you. We don’t have to agree but I am not wasting my time on foolishness anymore.

  • Tylerk

Allenp is right. also what some of you guys might not know is they also made this deal to free up salary space for Wilson Chandler who they plan on signing within the next few days. So really the trade looks like this:

    To washington:

    To Denver:

    Javale McGee
    Wilson Chandler
    2nd round pick

Seems like a good choice to me.

  • robb

    The Nuggets just got dumber

  • angus

herky jerky in lob city lovin it!

  • Lucas

what happens to Nene’s contract with Denver? does he still get his salary for the 5 years or does Washington buy out the contract?

Im never sure what happens when there is a trade like this

  • theDankerNuggets

god d*mnit, at least we didn’t get the chucker that is Nick Young too, i was pretty worried there for a second

  • Paul H

I know that Nene wiped the floor with his draft class during workouts. Sprints, Vert even BMI and that draft had a 19 year old Amare. Nene was ridiculously athletic at his peak.

  • http://Www.achtamsterdam.nl Phil

    He’s past his peak imo.

  • http://Www.achtamsterdam.nl Phil

Lakeshow…i forgot the clippers. It seems the top five out west are: thunder, lakers, spurs, grizzlies, clippers. But after that…i like the nugs. Especially going forward, the lakers and spurs are as good as done after next year…i like their potential.

  • http://www.andywhitby.com Andy Whitby

Think the nuggets were playing 2k and proposed a trade for the hell of it, then when the other team agree you have to wish you hadn’t

  • Justin G.

Sorry Allen but nobody believes that. You’re going to see someone say something stupid and chime in. It’s like nbk and shutup…they just can’t help themselves and neither can you. :-)

  • http://www.slamonline.com Max

    I like Mcgee in Denver.

LOL LakeShow! I’m leaning towards Nene at his “peak” when healthy being a tad more athletic than McGee.

  • aj

nene didnt want out. nuggets want him out and regret his big ass contract
