Derrick Rose Has Torn ACL, Out For Remainder of Playoffs

Well, this is just terrible. After being carried off the floor towards the end of the fourth quarter of today’s Bulls win over the 76ers, the Chicago Bulls’ Twitter feed is reporting that Derrick Rose is out for the rest of the Playoffs with a torn ACL. What else is there to say? Awful. Here’s to a strong recovery.

bike showing the true idiot and imbecile he is. I knew it already though.

  • bike

I think Rose should have considered the consequences before deciding to tear his ACL. Dude must be crazy. Right (H)airs?

  • Waggle

I saw the replay in very slow motion, and it look like kinda a freak injury to me. His left foot tweaked when he planted it there, which in turn tweaked his knee I guess, and caused his ligament to be torn. It didn’t look like that much contortion pressure caused by the primary foot planting tweak though. So..shumpert’s on the other hand looked even way more freakish to me cos they’re looked to be no contortion pressure and his balance looked to be pretty much fine.. so not sure what happened with that 1 at all!

2 Adidas athletes go down, and Dwight Howard is already out………..

Why do you guys even respond to the trolls?

  • http://Roosterteeth.com Caboose

WHY WAS HE EVEN IN THE GAME? Pop get coach of the year.

  • AsadSaleh3

A lot of stupidity from a few people here.
Hopefully, D-Rose returns in a year or so stronger and better than ever. He’s only 23 so I’m sure he’s a quick healer. And he works hard in the offseason anyway. The playoffs won’t be the same without him if you enjoy watching great basketball and are a true basketball fan.

  • AsadSaleh3

The regular season awards are won in the regular season, not the playoffs. Pop could win COY and it wouldn’t be a problem. But Thibs coached his team to the best record in the league with his star missing 27 games. He deserves it the most. Not his fault. Stuff happens.

  • Drig

@Caboose……..Rose was getting into a nice rhythm which would’ve helped him in subsequent games. Philly was on a 8-0 run or something and there was still enough time to make a comeback ( esp. after watching Ind-Orlando ). Nobody’s fault. Just bad luck.

I knew bike was an imbecile of the lowest kind.

  • bdogg

i feel bad for rose..hope he can come back full strength and not lose his speed and explosion. looking at this injury now as much as i wanted kb to try to win the scoring title it was a very smart move for brown to sit kb on thurs. injuries are never good. wishes with you drose!

  • Da-Meat_Hook

Not a Bulls fan but this is just horrible. Puts a damper on the entire playoffs. As someone who has torn his ACL, MCL, meniscus and patellar tendon(at the same time), I wish Rose a speedy and complete recovery.

2 torn acl in one day. smh

  • SEED

He will be back for game 7 BOOK IT

  • FLIGHT 9

very bad news. Everybody, because of the stupid schedule, was shut down or was injured for the most time in their carrers. K .Love. lamarcus, d.rose, rip, ray allen…. Hope he can come back strong next season.

  • http://www.slamonline.com king

to ^^^^ d rose had plenty of time to rest. this was just unfortunate

  • AsadSaleh3

The schedule is definitely the main reason for all of these injuries especially to guys who don’t get injured really like Howard and Rose as the guys on ESPN talked about during halftime.

  • http://orthopedics.about.com/od/aclinjury/f/rehabtime.htm anonymous

standard recovery time for an ACL tear is 7-9 months. most doctors agree that the minimum recovery period is 6 months. in short, there will be no speedy recovery which does not in turn jeopardize his health – possibly resulting in a second consecutive ACL tear. rose and the city of chicago will have to be patient.

  • 602Shorty

I hate the Bulls but this is awful. Not at all how I wanted his season to end. Hope him and Shump heel fast.

  • Rainman

Why is D-Rose to blame and not Coach thibs? Why did the coach have him out there with one minute left and a double digit lead? Are you gonna tell me “what did the coach know he was gonna play balls out like that and drive the ball?” WEll, he is the coach isnt he? as a coach he shud know his players tendencies right? He shud know that each minute D-Rose is out their he is gonna play hard. He shudnt have had him out there playing meaningless minutes, especially considering he’s been struggling all year with injuries, and u never know what can happen, AND that Rose has a tendency to jsut drive consistently when on the floor. Thibs shuda known that, and known better.

  • http://slamonline.com charliewinning

As much as I detest all things Sh*tcago, I feel really sorry that this injury happened to this young guy. I hope he gets the absolute best treatment possible. I wish the kid a speedy recovery.

  • spurs4life

@Rainman Amen. plus they where up 11 with a min. left in the game. so why would coach thibs leave him in the game knowing he wasn’t at %100?

  • http://www.yahoo.com berkamore

Like the Magic, Wilbon and the other guys were saying on ESPN, the schedule is just nuts. Rose, Schumpert, Dwight….guys that never had physical problems are out. Stern was saying that everything was great and all that but this season was just a disaster. Frankly, I am ready for this thing to be over because I am just getting concerned that other guys are going to get injured. Maybe it is really time for Stern to retire, we need to new blood in there. (yeah and Hunter should go too. Too old and just too much…..stuff going on)

  • bull22

Yeah tibbs probably should have done better in that situation but rose also should also begin
to realize that his prescence on the floor is enough and work on running the clock out and making
smart plays to avoid needless contact. But i like what collins said that he is one of few lights that is
    left in nba.

  • @Deknowz

This made me nauseous. I’m seriously queasy, I like this kid. Get well soon man.

  • Derrick Rose

    Shut up bike! Gawl!

  • bike

Thibs should bench DRose for a couple of games next season so DRose can think of the bad decision he just made: tearing his ACL.

    - Mighty bike rules this forum.

  • Jerome

Put a seat on it bike.

  • Big Marv’

    Slam Curse still alive….

  • bike

Jerome, u mad son? no need to get grumpy about DRose boy. Go do your homework to get your mind off drose.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA THIS IS FUNNY HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA HE’S IN PAIN HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

  • Justin G.

You guys know that injuries happen all the time right, not just in condensed schedules? Blaming the schedule is ridiculous and saying it’s David Stern’s fault is even more so. Would you have rather had a 50 game season instead? Then all you idiots would be talking about how the season was hardly worth it, the winner should get an asterisk, why weren’t there more games since these guys are such great athletes, they should have thought of this when they were turning down all of the league’s offers, etc. etc. It’s very unfortunate as I was looking forward to a great series between the Heat and Bulls but all this “prayers go out to him and his family” stuff is way over the top. He didn’t get shot, neither did a loved one.

  • Zabbah

Justin, no one’s denying that injuries happen all the time. But the spike in injuries can only be blamed to the condensed schedule. For example, the number of players injured for just one day has gone up by 66% this season as compared to last. Look more into it and you’ll find not just a huge spike in injuries but also the type of injury as well. This was the first time I ever heard of a baller injuring his pectoral muscles, and that happened quite a few times.

is this the chi-fan syndrome? Finding a scapegoat for everything that goes wrong your city`s sports team. [1] In 2003, it was Steve Bartman`s fault that the cubs loss in the NLCS. [2] Now in 2012, it is (a) thibodeau, (b) adidas, and (c) david stern`s condensed schedule that is to blame for rose`s freak injury where he jumped into the air to make a pass landing awkwardly in the absence of any contact with another player. None of these people or companies are to blame for rose`s injury. He has been hurt off and on the entire season, so this latest injury should not come as a huge shock. He is struggling to stay on the court. It happens. Injuries happen. Be rational.

    NNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Heat walk to the finals now, the west bash each other to get there. ****************** for the Heat’s championship.GO spurs!!!

This is really sad. He and the Bulls were doing so well. I hope he can come back strong next season.

  • Yann Blavec

    The SLAM curse as usual…

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

Here’s to a quick and full recovery Derrick…. I think about the way these top calibre players come into the league and rule the courts and then it’s a severe injury and an operation (or 5 in the case of Anfernee Hardaway) and that player is never the same. I really hope Derrick can come back and display that quickness. If he can take something away from this rollercoaster season it’s that he has youth on his side. Tim Hardaway did it and I think Rose will too.
    -
Derrick, Rubio… that other guy… this has been a hard season on lead guards with this compact schedule. :/
    -
In other news, maybe the Bulls could sign STEVE NASH for next season if Derrick takes a little while to come up to speed!?!?!

    : )

  • http://slamonline house

I hope that DRose is able to come back better than ever next season, Speedy recovery bro!

  • i_ball

c’mon’ guys. D’Rose has been out all season with an ankle injury. You can’t blame the schedule for this. You can’t blame Thibs for not seeing that his star player may injure his knee. And we have all played, when you jump you can landed awkwardly no matter what you wear. I almost broke my ankle in a pair of Js. S*** just happens.

  • DS44

D.Rose will come back with a vengeance!

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

My thoughts and prayers go out to Derrick Rose. I feel for anyone that is lost for the season, let alone a franchise player.

  • ClydeSays

S*cks for Rose & Bulls fans. Chi still has a chance. I do think the schedule has something to do with all his (and the rest of the NBA’s) injuries. More games, less recovery time=injuries.
