Nets to Pursue Kevin Garnett in Free Agency

The Star-Ledger reports that the Nets have interest in bringing in Kevin Garnett next season. The 35-year-old is having another solid season, but the Nets need to think hard before throwing good money at a player whose legs have accumulated the second-most minutes in the L: “What the Nets are thinking— reportedly — is that they need to upgrade the roster and power forward is one place they feel they can do better. The team reportedly plans to chase after Boston’s Kevin Garnett as they try to add star power for when they move into the Barclays Center.”

A starting lineup of Farmar Morrow Brooks Garnett and Lopez will make a lot of noise, a 35 year old who’s 3 years past his prime and a weak rebounding center is fierce

^i was about to blast u after the first part of the sentance lol. add star power, this is not ’96

Who is even gonna be in NJ next season that would even make KG wanna sign there? Jay Z?? I dont see him going there…it wouldnt make any sense. At his age, just like Steve Nash, Grant Hill, Ray Allen etc., he deserves to be on a contending team…not a rebuilding team.

Garnett will more than likely not want to go to the Nets if he doesn’t re-sign with the Celtics, he will want to go to a title contending team to try and chase one more title before he retires. The only way he will sign will probably be if they toss a lot of money at him and that doesn’t make sense considering he only has a couple years left and in that time they won’t be close to a championship. If they are looking for a big name to bring attention to their team and to get people to go to games they should look at a younger player who maybe can be with the team longer and can bring attention to the team too.

    Nets are F8cked

Deron Williams has made it clear he’s not coming back and Gerald Wallace has a player option in which I have no idea why he wouldn’t use to leave if Williams leaves. Their wings will be Farmar, Morrow, Brooks pending free agency.

What year is this? Who is the president?

  • AiRsMiTh

    @Ldub I don’t think most do; I sometimes don’t.

NOO stay with Celtics & let them continue being slightly above average.

  • Steps Around Lue

does the person who wrote this realize that kris humphries has had a pretty solid season at power forward. i say keep him. the nets just need to resign dwill and a solid small and they will prolly be fine. wallace is gone.

@spurs4life- Duncan refuses to play center… Thats why many consider him the greatest PF to ever play.. Once Robinson retired, I would have liked to see him slide to the 5, but didnt happen…

  • http://cechicagorilla@aol.com yada

kg is gonna stay with boston he will take a cheap contract to do it

  • AiRsMiTh

@BossTerry/spurs4life Couldn’t Garnett hypothetically just play the 5 for the Spurs, as he’s done in Boston for a substantial part of the season. In fact, he’s had the most success playing at the 5 this season, right?

  • IndyB

    I hope Brooklyn isnt buying

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

    Good point AiRs….

  • Greg

Boss Terry as a life long Spurs fan AND KG despiser, KG playing with Tim is mildly interesting…

  • logues

does anyone else think an old man’s finals of boston vs spurs would be really exciting to watch? it would be like the championship game of an alumni tournament

  • http://espn.go.com/nba/ Paul H

If and I say IF KG leaves Boston, It will be to a contender and nothing less.

  • http://staticseth.blogspot.com Seth

    Paul H is KG’s agent apparently…

  • spurs4life

Imo if the boozer thing dont go well with the bulls in the playoffs then I wouldnt be surprise if they go after kg in the offseason.

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

@greg- I don’t think it will ever happen, not after all those western confrence battles… Spurs got a very impressive win lastnite against LA… Very entertaining too.

  • http://espn.go.com/nba/ Paul H

Unofficial agent Seth. Either that or I’m making an educated guess. Hard to tell.

  • Jer Boi

    Better if they resign Humphries.

  • http://espn.go.com/nba/ Paul H

As much as I love to hate that reality t.v whore I have to agree JerBoi. Humphries has been balling this year.

  • http://Roosterteeth.com Caboose

PF is the one place they need to upgrade? Even Hump’s own team hates him. But Garnett on the Spurs=another possible title run.

  • Khadar

first ray now kg. I can not take it anymore, its not worth of living.

  • 23

Ray+Garnett to SA… Ray Ray seems like the perfect fit.for SA, and I believe if he actually signed there, his career could go on for.another 5 years at a good level. Garnett fits in everywhere honestly. Want him to focus on D, got it. Need him for.a locker room presence, no problem, want energy off the bench, got that too. Need a low post offensive threat? Yup. Someone who can hit the big shot, Garnett is the man

  • http://slamonline.com YKnoT

KG and new coach to Magic Book It!!! Lol. I traded Boozer for KG on my 2k franchise that worked out well! Seriously all big 3 should go to Phoenix get some of that fountain of youth they drink there, and contend for another 3 years!!!

  • http://twitter.com/nycking Ed

Nets will whiff again. See Lebron, Wade, Bosh, Amar’e, Melo, and Dwight. They got Deron and couldn’t make playoffs in weak East. Why would KG want to play in BK and be on a losing team.

  • RedRum

If they also get D12 and keep DWill they are a contender. Who can score on them in the post??
