Report: Dwight Howard Told Magic Owner He Won’t Play for Stan Van Gundy Anymore

In addition to speculation that Dwight Howard’s back injury is serious enough to keep him sidelined for the Playoffs, the latest piece of drama out of Orlando is that the superstar center reportedly called the Magic’s team owner during a game last week, and informed him that he won’t play as long as head coach Stan Van Gundy is coaching the team. (SVG, when reached for comment today, told the Orlando Sentinel the following: “I make nothing of them and I have no comment.”) Yikes: “Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard told team owner Rich DeVos that he won’t play for coach Stan Van Gundy anymore. Howard was angered that Van Gundy publicly divulged that the superstar center asked management to have him fired, WKMG-TV said, citing sources. Howard made the call to the 86-year-old DeVos during Friday’s game against the Atlanta Hawks.”
