Report: Kobe to Sit, Durant Will Win Scoring Title

Kobe needed 38 points tonight in order to retake the NBA’s scoring lead. But with the Playoffs starting this weekend, reasonable heads prevailed and Kobe will allegedly sit out L.A.’s final game of the regular season: “Kobe Bryant will not play in the Los Angeles Lakers’ regular-season finale against the Sacramento Kings, meaning that Oklahoma City’s Kevin Durant will win the scoring title. Bryant averaged 27.86 points per game, second in the league to Durant’s 28.03. With Durant’s regular season over, Bryant would have had to score 38 points to prevent the Thunder forward from claiming his third straight scoring title. With the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference playoffs already locked up, Lakers coach Mike Brown opted to sit the team’s stars and use the game as a talent evaluator for its young players.”

    Let me guess:

“Kobe calculated this move, he’s so fake – he knew that if he did it it would make him look selfish, so he didn’t do it…but he wants to”.

  • LA Huey

I’m actually surprised he didn’t. And as a fan of the Kobe character, I’m disappointed.

  • bike

When Brown politely asked Kobe if he would be OK sitting out the last game Kobe responded “I don’t give a fu*k about the scoring title, not one little tiny fu*k at all, fu*k the scoring title, just fu*ck it, why do you think I care about the fu*king scoring title? I don’t, OK?”

^Sounds about right. “He also knew that if he played and failed to score 38, he’d look like a chump.”

A little disappointed, he’s on my fantasy team I was hoping he’d go HAM.

  • robb

Kobe said 1000 times that he didn’t care about the scoring title, he cares about the jewelry.

  • tomtom

Damned if he does, damned if he doesn’t. You guys are so predictable.

    Done in about 4 comments!

  • AsadSaleh3

The only number on Kobe’s mind is 6. As in winning his 6th championship. We should all know this by now.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Megatron

I would like to know why Durant played 40 minutes against Denver.. Thats doesn’t really make any sense to me.

  • DABIGFUNDAMENTAL

make sense. good decision. probably agreed btw both of them.

  • http://www.nbadraft.net biggavelia

The Chump was scared that he wouldnt hit 38…All of a sudden he worried about rest come on son..lol.. he bein ball hoggin all season

  • http://www.slamonline.com Nick Tha Quick

Kobe cares as much about winning the scoring title as Steve Nash cares about winning a championship.

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

WWWWWHHHHHHYYYYY? As a Laker fan, I hate this move.

  • http://wikipedia.org Eddie1

The only scoring Kobe will be doing is with his ex wife…trying to soften her up to avoid showerin her with his papers and property.

  • spurs4life

    That’s sooooo un-Kobelike…

  • James

wonder what durant thinks/feels about this?

  • Dungeon Family

Ya’ll call him selfish but when he decides not to be Ya’ll still complain?

I swear ya’ll lame as hell with the hating

  • 602Shorty

He Knew he couldn’t get 30 tonight,,,,,

  • 602Shorty

He knew how bad it would look if he went for 38 with his inefficient azz.

  • Drig

Man, guys seem to have stocked up on the haterade for the POs lol. Damned if he does, damned if he doesn’t.

  • Dungeon Family

    @602Shorty <——–Prime example Of a Lame

  • http://slamonline.com Ugh

    Shocked. SHOCKED.

  • PnoyVibe

He doesn’t normally act like this. Maybe he will change his mind?

  • http://Roosterteeth.com Caboose

I would like to apologize for the start of the season poll when I said there was no way Durant would win the scoring title. I was dead wrong.

  • http://Slamonline.com Kevin Durant’s Backpack

Now I have to carry more trophies

  • 602Shorty

I’d rather be a lame who’s opinion is based on real numbers than a lame who teabags Kobe like he’s paid to do it. He’s not an efficient scorer and you know it.

  • B.C.

Why do most of you above hate on Kobe? Like what’s wrong with the guy? He’s a champion and one of the greatest to ever play the game. Respect him, because every one of you know that you can never be on his level at basketball.

  • Justin

SHOUT OUT TO DERMARR JOHNSON!!! THE ORIGINAL KEVIN DURANT!! HOPE HE HEARS ME! WHAT UP SLIM?

  • http://Juanm.garcia@comcast.net NYPlaya

I like this move. Showing Bynum that it’s time to put individual goals aside and go for what really matters. Chip Number 17 for the Lakers.

  • BWill

cosign NYPlaya to the fullest. Major veteran move. Major BOSS move.

  • YeP

Not seeing as much hating as some of you are claiming. Being disappointed is not hating.

  • tonyknorr

@ B.C. because he is a self obsessed ball hog, that sexually assaulted a women and let his legal team redefine the practice of playing dirty whilst further traumatizing a young women. Well at least that is why I hate on him. that and his complete lack of proper defence 80 percent of the time. I can’t speak for everybody else though. Really I would love to respect him for his scoring prowess and basketball skills but his personality and behaviour have just made it impossible to do so.

  • Justin G.

God, would you please stop with the “he sexually assaulted a woman”. Yes, his legal team played dirty by pointing out how much other DNA was on that chick’s panties and she dropped the charges. I swear, 95% of you that post in here are complete idiots. The Spurs are geniuses when they rest their best players but if the Lakers, and more specifically Kobe, rest it’s because he’s scared. Some of the most ridiculous logic I’ve ever read

  • RedRum

Can we stop making this about Kobe and just admire the most amazing scorer the game has seen since MJ? Durant even looks like a young MJ. He just needs to pick up his D and playmaking (he is an average defender and only has 3.5 assists) and he will be up there. Injury aside, this kid can become one of the best ever. If Spurs do not win the chip this year I support OKC.

  • SiMoney

WOW @tonyknorr smh, the same young woman who had sex with 3 to 5 other guys BEFORE and After she had sex with Kobe. Same young woman who wanted money for a record deal to fund her “singing career.” Yet you feel sorry for this “traumatized woman” lol, get your facts straight. You all love Michael Jordan and he was just as much of a jerk in his playing days. With that said, I still didnt like the fact that Kobe sat out, it was, dare i say, “LEBRONESQUE”

  • Dungeon Family

the only ppl that bring up that colorado ish are white ppl

  • 602Shorty

Keep up the good job, Slam. Keep blocking intellligent comments while allowing raccit ssexist homophobic ones.

  • 602Shorty

    *racist, sexist, homophobic.

  • 602Shorty

I’ll jus keep posting until you guys get tired of deleting my posts…As I was saying…The most asinine, sexist “point” made to discredit victims is discussing the number of men a woman has had sex with. Promiscuous women and prostitutes are no less victims than virgins who are assaulted. R*pe occurs the second you ignore the words ‘stop’, ‘no’, or ‘don’t’. Period. It is forceful sexual act or acts on another person against their will. What does VOLUNTARY sex with other people have to do with anything? Stating a woman’s sex history is another way of saying she no longer has a right to dictate who touches her once she’s reached a number of partners men deeem unacceptable. Some of you are so sexist you don’t even realize how dumb your argument is. A boxer fights and gets hit for a living, so I guess it’s not assault if someone punches him in the face outside the ring? Or does this idiotic way of thinking only apply to crimes against women? R*pists count on your attitudes to get away with it, and thanks to ya’ll they do most of the time.

  • 602Shorty

Hey Justin, she didn’t drop the charges. She refused to testitfy. The prosecutors dropped the charges. She probably didn’t want to get victimized a second time on the stand due to meatheads who think like you. She NEVER recanted her story so you can’t assume it was a lie anymore than we can assume Kobe is guilty based on the fact that he settled out of court. None of us truly know who the victim was. The only things we do know are Kobe said he did the same thing to other girls who never claimed r*pe, and that he ended up paying the girl a lot of money to keep her mouth shut.

  • tonyknorr

Hey Justin G why don’t you read a scholarly article or two about full defence disclosure and the non reciprocal nature of the american court system. Oh wait, thats right I forgot you would rather pay attention to the media, bury your head in the sand and continue Idolizing undeserving sports stars. Thats ok you are no different than an unfortunate vast majority of the North American population that refuses to recognize the disturbing mentality of North American men and our court systems (yes the canadian one sucks as well). Again, I would like to respect Kobe for his skills and scoring prowess but I refuse to validate the career of a man that would be rotting in jail if he were a poor, common man at the time he committed his crime.
