Report: Michael Malone to be Head Coach Next Year…Somewhere

There are going to be plenty of coaching vacancies this summer—the Knicks and Blazers are currently employing interim head coaches, while the Clippers and Magic jobs just may be up for grabs—and according to a San Francisco Chronicle report, Golden State Warriors assistant Michael Malone is definitely getting one of them: “People around the league disagree on how much Malone is calling the shots, but they all agree on this: Malone, 41, is one of the best assistant coaches in the game and [Mark] Jackson will be tested next season when Malone is likely gone. The Los Angeles Clippers, Washington Wizards, Orlando Magic and Portland Trail Blazers will need head coaches, to name a few teams, and one league source said ‘it’s a lock’ that Malone will have a head-coaching job next season. Orlando center Dwight Howard reportedly has told team officials that he wants Malone to be the Magic’s next head coach. ‘For all the talk about trading for (Andrew) Bogut, they’re going to have a huge hole on the bench they need to fill,’ one league executive said.”

I hope SVG outlasts Dwight in Orlando. And given the Warriors abysmal performances over the past half-decade, why is there a market for this guy?

good question, maybe because the roster has been pretty abysmal, they have their injury problems for sure, but some might feel that they have been underacheiving

Its, not a good question. The Warriors record over the past half-decade has nothing to do with Michael Malone, he spent most of his time in Cleveland with Lebron, and last year improving the Hornets defense, plus hes Brenden Malone’s son which means hes spent most of his entire life involved in NBA coaching. That being said he could suck d!ck at being an NBA head coach, but there are reasons for him getting a shot.

I just think it’s funny that next season is when Mark Jackson will be tested. Not this season? lol

If the Nets could just wise up and fire Avery Johnson, I think our fan base would be glad to give Mike Malone a shot. No guarantee that he’ll be a good coach but it’s useless to keep trotting Avery out there, he SUCKS!!

I honestly do not know much about his coaching (strengths, weaknesses, kind of offense/defense he likes to run, guard or bigman oriented, etc.) but I would rather have him than VDN…
