Stan Van Gundy Expecting to Finish Season as Orlando’s Head Coach

Following his bombshell revelation yesterday afternoon, Stan Van Gundy stood by helplessly as Dwight Howard and the Orlando Magic mailed in the game against the New York Knicks last night. SVG says he expects to finish out the season in Orlando, despite perhaps an irreparably fractured relationship with the team’s biggest star. From the Orlando Sentinel: “Stan Van Gundy said Thursday night that he expects to finish the season as the Orlando Magic’s head coach and that he, Dwight Howard and General Manager Otis Smith met after Van Gundy claimed Howard asked for him to be fired earlier in the day. ‘Look, we’ve been together all year this year,’ Van Gundy said. ‘We’ve been together for five years. So we know each other very well, and Dwight will go out and play, and I’ll coach, and that’s the understanding. We know that.’ […] Howard would not discuss the meeting with Van Gundy and Smith or about his relationship with the coach. ‘I don’t want to talk about it,’ Howard said. ‘It has nothing to do with the game tonight.'”
