Allen Iverson to Attend Game 6 Tonight in Philadelphia

by Tzvi Twersky | @ttwersky

When Game 6 between the Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers tips off tonight at the Wells Fargo Center in South Philly, the arena is sure to be rocking. Yes, the fans will show up in droves because, with the Celtics leading the East Conference Semifinals 3-2, it’s potentially the last home game of the season for the Sixers. And, yes, the fans will be extra edgy in response to Kevin Garnett’s “fair-weather” comments. More than that, though, the fans will be in a frenzy because, as multiple sources confirmed with SLAM, Allen Iverson will be in attendance at the game.

In a recent interview with SLAM, AI expressed his love for Philadelphia and his playing days in the city. Though he last took the court for the Sixers in 2010, the Sixers often air an Allen Iverson montage during home games, and fans in attendance are still as likely to be wearing his jersey as they are to be wearing a current team member’s. The Sixers have yet to confirm, but the same sources say he will be honored at some point during the game.

If they let him play, there will be a game 7 – book it. This CAT needs to be back. Shame he got blackballed by Stern.

@Markymark. Its not Stern blackballing AI. Its all the GM’s cos they gotta sign the paycheck. Though in having said that, AI needs to play one more season with anybody. He deserves that much.

Anybody remember, once upon a time, when I tried to promote grammar and correct spelling on this site and was shouted down? Thangs done changed.

@hushabomb I dont think stern alone is black balling AI. I think stern has some influence but some of the top/main gms in the nba are also contributing factors in AI`s continued banishment from the league. It cant just be one person keeping AI from being signed by 30 teams. I believe that it has been a collective effort by stern & a handful (or so) of gms who have power/influence over the rest and thus have been stonewalling AI`s desire to resume and ultimately end his career in the nba. Nothing else makes sense because AI can still play and most high IQ basketball minds acknowledge this fact.

@anonymous – Yup, it’s definitely a group of people – Stern, NBA execs, some GMs/owners, plus some influential media people.

And everyone who tries to help him gets “punished.” Larry Brown publicly declared during his Charlotte stint that his priority is to get him on a roster. He’s coaching college ball now.
