Allen Iverson to Attend Game 6 Tonight in Philadelphia

by Tzvi Twersky | @ttwersky

When Game 6 between the Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers tips off tonight at the Wells Fargo Center in South Philly, the arena is sure to be rocking. Yes, the fans will show up in droves because, with the Celtics leading the East Conference Semifinals 3-2, it’s potentially the last home game of the season for the Sixers. And, yes, the fans will be extra edgy in response to Kevin Garnett’s “fair-weather” comments. More than that, though, the fans will be in a frenzy because, as multiple sources confirmed with SLAM, Allen Iverson will be in attendance at the game.

In a recent interview with SLAM, AI expressed his love for Philadelphia and his playing days in the city. Though he last took the court for the Sixers in 2010, the Sixers often air an Allen Iverson montage during home games, and fans in attendance are still as likely to be wearing his jersey as they are to be wearing a current team member’s. The Sixers have yet to confirm, but the same sources say he will be honored at some point during the game.

    Welcome home sir!

  • http://bebe310.blogspot.com/ anonymous

I`ll watch a little bit of the game tonight then. The game isn`t the same without Iverson. He brings a sort of spirit and intensity to the game that is undeniable and unparalleled. I want to see my dude back in the nba next season. (click on my name)

This ain’t right bruh, Allen iverson a fucking BUM, TRASH, ain’t done ish for Philly.. Ya digg?!

  • Feez_22

IVERSON! man lou should just give iverson his jersey for 1 night so iverson can go nuts. aint like lou is doing anything lol.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

It would be great if he tripped KG or some sh*t from the front row.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XcWehLOdWpU djb

(click on the link). I know it`s going to be hard for AI going back there to watch a playoff game when he wants to be on the court but this is going to give him extra motivation. d*** I want a team to pick up AI so badly this offseason. this cat can still do damage.

Kind of a d*ck move by management IMO.

  • http://nba.com GP23

Have the Sixers retired his jersey at all?? I thought they would have.

  • IamYOU

YES! My main man iverson! LET’S GO PHILLY!

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XcWehLOdWpU djb

I am not sure why management hasnt confirmed it either because this news is going to get out there regardless of their actions or non actions. AI`s manager said that AI was going to be in philly in attendance for game 6 on twitter during game 4 so I was waiting for SLAM to confirm the report.

  • Rik Smits Mullet

    @GP23
I think he first has to announce his official retirement for that.
But first let see if he can get another go in the NBA.

  • ALD

    need to retire his jersey

  • Big Will

Definitely my man! Absolutely fearless. Miss this guy, it’s a shame that the NBA treated him the way it did.

  • SixURRRS

Iverson, faults and all, is up there with Kobe and Jordan as far as “i can’t believe a human being can do this on a basketball court.” He’s 5’11 and second all time in playoff scoring avg. That’s mindblowing.
    .
He deserves the cheers tonight. Unique players are so hard to come by.

  • SixURRRS

Larry Brown had said that if he got an NBA job this summer his first task would be signing Iverson to a roster spot. Since Larry took an NCAA job that’s not happening. I hope someone signs him. The guy is in great shape (he looks like he’s 150 lbs) and he wants to be a bench player. SIGN HIM!

  • ClydeSays

Seem to remember the 6ers shipping him out of town for Andre Miller, Joe Smith & a couple of draft picks. Stay classy, Philly!

  • http://www.slamonline.com spit hot fiyah

    @rik smits: give up

  • http://bebe310.blogspot.com/ anonymous

@sixurrrs ditto. AI simply needs a training camp and the preseason games leading up to the start of the regular season. thats it. he has kept himself in great condition and only needs real playing time to get in 82-game regular season shape. I was watching some of the most recent clips of last summer and in China and hes still legit. ppl would be surprised at what he could do on the court.

  • SixURRRS

it’s not better or worse but I miss the dark side of town vibe that Iverson brought. It’s so different from the “have fun, nerd glasses and backpacks” that I see every NBA player wearing. I really want to see him on the court with these modern day guys. In his day he’d cross them onto the injured list but it would still be fun to see him contribute or hit a huge shot in the playoffs.

  • KrispyKreme

    Thare still gon loose

  • Rasheedionics

    ^^^^^ Kids stay in school.

  • http://bebe310.blogspot.com/ anonymous

@krispy there are 3 “thares” (their, they`re, there) but your “thare” isn`t one of them.

  • http://bebe310.blogspot.com/ anonymous

@krispy the correct “thare” that should have been used is the contraction “they`re”. In addition, “gon loose” should be “going to lose”. “loose” is an adjective not a verb.

  • fruizm

@anonymous…haha! I understand your frustration with these illiterate posters!

I use to like Krispy Kreme until I read that post.

  • http://www.twitter.com/clearheatvision Raj

Can’t wait for this. Will be down memory lane. I like many of the readers here hope he gets picked up for a proper farewell, but based on this season, my hopes have faded so much.

    sigh.

  • http://www.fullc0urtpress.com KHOLIDAY05

    Thare? Really? LOL! Wow!

  • LA Huey

If a Sixer manages to score a bucket and Rondo’s fallen in the vicinity, he HAS to step over Rondo or get waived, right?

  • http://slamonline.com The Philosopher

    Who organized this?
Why would he put himself through that?

  • http://Roosterteeth.com Caboose

Pardeep called this a couple days ago…

  • Antonio

Iverson is my favourite player ever, but now my team is Boston, I love KG, PP and RA, I liked Sixers when AI played.

Sorry, Go Celtics but Allen Iverson deserve one last shot in the NBA, he still can to play at high level in any team in the league.

Still The Answer #3 LEGEND ONLY AN THE ONE

  • Just Sayin

You cant just switch teams willy nilly^^^. I never understood fans that deviated away from their home teams.

  • http://bebe310.blogspot.com/ anonymous

@philosopher Im with you. This must have taken some convincing on the part of the sixers organization because everyone knows that AI would rather be on the court playing and “they`re” asking (notice the correct usage of “they`re) him to come out to a pivotal game 6 in Philadelphia. Much respect to Iverson because it`s really big of him to do this. But like djb said this will give him extra motivation. I want to see AI back in the nba 2012-13 and not for curtain calls but to actually compete. Someone should sign him. AI just wants to play basketball. Give him a chance to do so.

  • http://bebe310.blogspot.com/ anonymous

@caboose AI`s manager put this on twitter during game 4 of bos/phi series a couple days ago. I don`t know if pardeep saw it but I did. This report had been quietly, incredously circulating the web for about a week now not yet confirmed.

  • http://slamonline.com 19821982

That top comment isn’t me. I actually can’t wait to see it happen. AI live on any NBA broadcast is good enough, even if he’s there to watch his team lose.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Pardeep

WOW! My idea came to life:| can’t wait and I never saw this till like two days ago

  • http://none AJN

The question is does A.I. still stand for Allen Iverson in Philly, or does it now stand for Andre Igoudola???

  • SixURRRS

i always thought A.I. would be great on Inside the NBA. Much better than Shaq. But i do agree that around the 4th quarter his legs will start getting restless. He’ll want to be out there so bad. He’s still up there with most backup guards.

  • juicy

Lets not kid ourselves, with his track record, AI may not make it to the game before the start of the second half, if at all

  • http://bebe310.blogspot.com/ anonymous

About 2 hours ago 76ers` CEO Adam Aron confirmed that Allen Iverson was “invited” to attend tonight`s game 6 in Philly. From Aron`s twitter account @SixersCEOAdam: “Can confirm Allen invited. To attend, he will need good weather/on-time flight. RT @TTwersky Allen Iverson plans to attend Game 6 in Phila.” But just heard that the flight has been delayed due to weather.

    cool story bro

  • titanic

I`ll be watching tonight at least up until AI leaves or the camera begins to focus on the actual itself. I have no interest in these playoffs nor this nba season. hope AI signs with an nba team next season.

  • don the GSW fan

ai will play in a lou williams jersey, with some small face altering, that would pass! cmon now.

  • markymark

If they let him play, there will be a game 7 – book it. This CAT needs to be back. Shame he got blackballed by Stern.

  • IDOT

    @markymsrk, amen to that.

  • j.king

    PRACTICE…WE TALKIN’ BOUT PRACTICE LOL

  • http://youtu.be/XcWehLOdWpU titanic

    cosign markymark.

  • Dennisthemenace

that was awesome. damn, Iverson is a legend.

  • hushabomb

@Markymark. Its not Stern blackballing AI. Its all the GM’s cos they gotta sign the paycheck. Though in having said that, AI needs to play one more season with anybody. He deserves that much.

  • MikeC.

Anybody remember, once upon a time, when I tried to promote grammar and correct spelling on this site and was shouted down? Thangs done changed.

  • http://bebe310.blogspot.com/ anonymous

@hushabomb I dont think stern alone is black balling AI. I think stern has some influence but some of the top/main gms in the nba are also contributing factors in AI`s continued banishment from the league. It cant just be one person keeping AI from being signed by 30 teams. I believe that it has been a collective effort by stern & a handful (or so) of gms who have power/influence over the rest and thus have been stonewalling AI`s desire to resume and ultimately end his career in the nba. Nothing else makes sense because AI can still play and most high IQ basketball minds acknowledge this fact.

  • markymark

@anonymous – Yup, it’s definitely a group of people – Stern, NBA execs, some GMs/owners, plus some influential media people.

And everyone who tries to help him gets “punished.” Larry Brown publicly declared during his Charlotte stint that his priority is to get him on a roster. He’s coaching college ball now.

  • D-Funk

Im jus sayin in shyt…this aint a FORMAL setting…@Kevin, excuse my Crippin…its a habit
