Anthony Davis Looks Forward to Joining the New Orleans Hornets

The New Orleans Hornets — surprise winners of the Draft Lottery — won’t admit it yet, but it’s obvious that they will select Anthony Davis with the top pick in this year’s NBA Draft. Davis, who won a national championship with the Kentucky Wildcats in New Orleans back in March, is eagerly anticipating the start of his pro career in the Big Easy. From ESPN: “The Hornets moved up three spots in the NBA draft lottery on Wednesday night to land the No. 1 pick, snatching the honor away from Charlotte, Washington and Cleveland. The coincidence for Davis couldn’t have been predicted. On the day he received his national championship ring from the NCAA for earning a title in New Orleans for Kentucky in March, he found out the Hornets had won the right to select him on June 28. ‘I won a national championship in New Orleans, so why not win another one in New Orleans?’ said Davis, who was the Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four and the consensus National Player of the Year award winner in his only season at Kentucky. ‘I just have to buy into what they’re doing and work my hardest,’ said Davis. New Orleans won’t publicly commit to selecting Davis — at least not yet — but there is no other expected selection at the top of the draft. The Hornets, who finished with the worst record in the Western Conference at 21-45, do have experience up front in Emeka Okafor and Chris Kaman, if both return next season. ‘That helps, because there are guys there that can show me how things work,’ Davis said. ‘They can take me under their wing. It makes it a lot easier.’ Davis was savvy to the present mood in New Orleans professional sports, with the spring dominated by the news of bounty-related suspensions to the NFL’s New Orleans Saints. The Saints dominated local coverage during the Final Four. ‘This can kind of bring joy back to New Orleans,’ Davis said. ‘I guess I get lucky when I go there.’”

Their defense will be overwhelming. They already had one of the best defenses this year. Now with a shotblocker/rebounder like that?? Even if Davis gets in foul trouble they’ll have a legit big man backing him up. They could’ve made the playoffs this year if E.Gordon had played.

  • whooo!

The title should read “Anthony Davis looks forward to not having to join the Bobcats.”

can the kid please do something about that mono brow. E. Gordon wants out and one of the centres will go to miami.. Yawn.

Surprise winners??? I was not in the least bit surprised that they won.

it seems that whatever team the nba feels needs it the most gets the top pick

With Davis and another top ten pick I would be very, very surprised If NO didn’t add at least 20-25 wins to their tally. They were actually pretty solid toward the end of the season with Gordon back In the lineup (6-4 over their last ten)

Hopefully Eric Gordon sticks around and they can build a nice foundation there.

E.Gordon might want out but he’s restricted. He’s going back to New Orleans. Either Okafor or Kaman will be cut but Davis will have a good backup either way.

if the Hornets are smart they’ll bring back Okafor and get rid of Kaman

The fix is in? Seems all too convenient that the NBA nixes a deal, clears up the books on NO, sells it then all the sudden they get a franchise player in the draft

I’ll be praying every day NOLA will trade Chris Kaman and Gordon in the future. I’ll also be praying NOLA gets new jerseys, new logo, and a new arena. I’m one of Davis’ biggest fans before he came to Kentucky, and now he’s in a hopeless team of scraps. Let’s just hope Perry Jones III, Terrence Jones, Andre Drummond or Arnett Moultrie will be the 2nd pick(10th overall) for the Hornets. I just don’t see Davis succeeding in a team with Jack, Gordon, and all the other scraps out there on the team.

The Hornets will let Kaman walk… He is going to be offered more money by other teams and his expired $12 mil contract is going to open up the cap space for some interesting signings and trades. In other words, his contract is expired.

Has there ever been a number one pick more guaranteed than the selection of Anthony Davis? cmon Hornets just come out and say it.
