Anthony Davis Wants to ‘Shut Kobe Down’

Anthony Davis, more than likely this year’s top NBA draft pick, doesn’t lack in self-confidence. To say the least. The soon-to-be New Orleans Hornets big man claims (granted, in somewhat of a joking manner) that he’s looking forward to guarding Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant next season. From the Dan Patrick Show (via the LA Times): “[Kobe]’s a monster. So I just want to go out there and play my hardest,’ Davis said. ‘There’s a lot of guys that can’t stop Kobe. So if I stop him I could be one of the guys that say, ‘I shut Kobe down’. [...] ‘Be careful what you ask for Anthony,’ Patrick told the former Kentucky standout. ‘He listens to the show and he has a great memory.’ Retorted Anthony: ‘Tell him, I’ll be waiting.’”

Maybe somebody should remind him what Kobe did to a young Dwight.

  • jay cutler

^ Maybe somebody should remind you that that Kobe is not coming back as the years go on.

  • Dungeon Family

I should remind ya’ll that Jay Cutler is really a Kobe Fan just look at how he can’t help but click on every Kobe story and leave a comment

  • McWill

I think Kobe booked another flight to Germany after hearing that lmao…

  • I’mTheKobeStopper

  • DFRANK

  • http://www.slamonline.com Redd

This kid is a punk to me now. Haven’t scored a single point but already saying what you’re going to do.

  • http://www.fullc0urtpress.com KHOLIDAY05

Is there anyway the NBA can stage the draft and not draft this dummy just so he can realize he’s not guaranteed anything? You talking about stopping Kobe and you’re not even in the league yet dude… Talk about stopping Terrence Jones first or something!

  • http://idunkonthem.blogspot.com albie1kenobi

I like this kid already. but what about Lebron or Durant? is he gonna shut them down too?

  • http://www.slamonline.com spit hot fiyah

give the guy a break, he is on a talk show, what is he supposed to say. i’m ready for kobe to drop 82 on my team?

  • Kobe

That was a bad idea kid

  • MrAir239

Too much pride equals Kobe embarrassing Davis by dunking on him, nuts included. Remember Dwight Howard?

  • MrAir239

I’m not even a Kobe Fan btw.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Red

No you could just say I like Kobe’s game and am excited to go against guys like him.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Double J

what gives these commenters the audacity to talk smack about a guy who is excited to play against the best? He has the opportunity, let him shine.

  • Jake

This is going to be entertaining. Kobe didn’t show any signs of slowing down this year.

  • kobesBESTfriend

too late ant…mike brown has already shut kobe down with his stagnent offense

  • lakernation

They said he jokingly said that…. He was just being humorous. You guys bashing the young stud like he’s LBJ, Wade and Bosh. He didnt say he will be winning a championship in the next couple of years. COME ON, SON!

  • Jerome

He isn’t saying he will stop the Colorado Kid. What he did say is he is man enough to make the effort. Not gonna work out for him until 2014 imo.

  • bike

All he said was “IF I stop him…one of the guys…shut him down’. It’s not like he called Kobe out….jeeze give the kid a friggin break.

  • bdogg

be careful what you wish for! first off a lakers-hornets game will not be a national tv game..maybe nbatv but i look forward to the mamba posterizing him! that said, the brow is going to have a fun USA hoops training camp…good job buddy! the mamba is going to eat you a live..he better hope he is on kobe’s team!

  • cbb_fanatic

LOL. I knew haters were going to take his comments out of context and make it more than what is was. He was joking and he thoroughly explained his position on WANTING to block some of Kobe’s shots. He didn’t imply that he is already on Kobe’s level or anything of the sort. This comment is no different than Austin Rivers’ comments about Lebron James. People read too much into it and making a big deal out of a small comment taking out of it’s comical context is a good way to get people to pay attention to your story.

  • Lloyd

Even if he meant it as a jab, get off the kid’s back. I like this fiery talk. The NBA is too full of politically correct superstars who won’t talk trash because they want to liked by all. We need more of this by guys who have the potential to back it up.

  • Reggie06

Hope mr Kobe Bryant scores 55 on you

  • gubbins

What do you expect him to say? ” while I’m clearly one of the best prospects in years, I hope to get trounced by current superstars “

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

Oh oh…the last thing a new player wants to do is upset kobe fanboys.

  • http://www.adultism.com justlenny

    I am a Kobe hater but Davis , you’re a foolish boy

  • B.C.

This is the dumbest thing any NBA player can say, because there is not any player that can shut down Kobe Bryant.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

^ there is one. His name is Kobe Bryant.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Nick Tha Quick

In other news, Austin Rivers vows to “shut down” Mario Chalmers. Outrage ensues.

  • Bill

Don’t even JOKE about shutting Kobe the choker down or his groupies will throw hissies!!!

  • davidR

    yall are soft.

  • http://www.offthebackboard.wordpress.com Off The Backboard

Why is this even a big deal? He’s just kidding around.

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

….He’s got balls, I’ll definitely give him that.

  • http://slamonline Brion

The big unibrow in the bayou!

  • Mark

lol. Kobe’s still a brilliant player and will be for a few seasons to come, but he’s definitely in his last few years as a great player. If Davis wants to mouth off, maybe he should put a memo out to Lebron, Durant, hell, even Rose and Griffin first. Saying your going to take out a guy who’s 33 isn’t much of a challenge , though Kobe isn’t going to take that lying down. He’ll kill him and teach the young pup some respect I would say!

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

Get in line Davis, he probably has Kobe posters in his room and pretends to be Kobe in games. I like his mojo, but really he used to be a point guard, but since he has grown over the years, he needs to set his sights on small forwards and power forwards.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Slick Ric

I like this kid, already talking about shutting people down, Kobe Bryant at that. lol

  • Dungeon Family

    JTaylor21 Is a Kobe fan don’t take the little kid’s comment’s serious

  • PnoyVibe

I hope he shaves his unibrow

  • kobesbiggestfan

This kid is going to mop the floor with Bryant…

  • robb

I like players who have that type of confidence, but the guy needs to play against Kobe first to really know what he’s talking about.

  • Trilla

Who cares whether he said this in a joking manner or not? The kid has confidence and believes he’s the best, which is what you need to be the best. You hate on the confidence and comfortableness in his skin cause none of you have that, you envy it. Being humble is stupid, if you think you’re the best and believe you are the best then shout it out with pride and dont be afraid.

  • http://www.slamonline.com keep it real

    Who remembers ruben Patterson???

  • huami

    ^^ THE SELF-PROCLAIMED KOBE STOPPER!

  • Justin G.

In a way it doesn’t even matter that he said it jokingly. Kobe is just like MJ in that he looks for little things to get himself motivated to go out and beat on somebody. Joking or not, he just guaranteed 40+ out of Kobe in their first meeting
